I want a Finnish bidet shower

Just returned from Finland and I love feeling properly fresh down below.DH thinks they would freak guests out, so I just have to stick to our ensuite fir now.
Would you find one weird and off putting on an English home?

Won't it be a bit chilly?

WoolyMammoth55 · 02/01/2023 21:44

Hi OP, my DH is scandi and I agree with you on the fresh feeling! Those little loo hoses are used all over the middle east and asia too - very normal for much of the world.

Our shower has this setup, easy to use for washing downstairs and won't scare any horses:

But we also went further and installed one of these - which does get a few comments when guests see it! If you think the Finns have got bathroom hygiene nailed, go to Japan next :)

I’d find it weird.
I don’t fancy using one someone else has used either tbh. I just imagine the water from peoples undercarriage dripping onto the hose & it then being handled by people quite grim.

I’ve seen plenty in Muslim homes, didn’t realise it was also a Scandi thing. I’ve never known anyone be freaked out by them! No one has to use it.

But agree with PP, you really need a Japanese toilet. It’s quite seriously on my fantasy home checklist.

Lozzybear · 02/01/2023 21:48

I’ve used them in many countries. I also have friends from the Middle East who have installed them in the UK. However, a Japanese toilet would be my preference!

PuttingOnTheKitsch · 02/01/2023 21:49

We have one in each toilet. They are fabulous. Dirty water does not drip onto them as you don't use them at that angle. They also get cleaned regularly.

Our upstairs one also has an adjustable temperature, like a mixer tap.

As pp has said, they are v popular in the ME and Asia, so a plumber/plumbing store near one of those communities would be your best bet for an affordable one.

JanuaryBluehoo · 02/01/2023 21:52

@WoolyMammoth55 ...wow
What an incredible looking loo!!

What is installation like? Tricky? If all the fancy stuff broke eg electric... would it still function as a loo?

dudsville · 02/01/2023 21:52

We have them in the upstairs toilets, I really wish I'd put one in the downstairs. I thought this was my total luxury item when we were doing up the house, but I now feel its a necessity to be clean. You can get temp controlled ones, we have them, but i keep it on cold. I hate travelling to places that don't have them now.

DaneMum · 02/01/2023 21:56

Definitely not a "scandi thing"! Not common in either Denmark, Sweden or Norway :-)

bibbif · 02/01/2023 21:58

Surely you wouldn't even use someone's toilet if this is your take on it?

BumpyaDaisyevna · 02/01/2023 22:00

Looks amazing.

Query - do your clothes not get a bit wet tho?

greenspaces4peace · 02/01/2023 22:03

available at costco here in canada.
they plumb into the hot system and the temp is adjustable.
getting more and more common (after all if costco carries it, it can't be to rare a concept)

Adultchildofelderlyparents · 02/01/2023 22:05

Never seen them in Scandinavia but used them all over Asia on my travels. I really want one too! Never occurred to me that I could get one in the UK.

mizu · 02/01/2023 22:07

This is called a Muslim shower Smile as far as I know!

MrsCarson · 02/01/2023 22:07

I had a couple of friends with this in the US. They used them for rinsing the poop off cloth nappies before dropping them into the bucket. Never thought of rinsing the undercarriage with it, although theres were plumbed to the cold water.

Hillrunning · 02/01/2023 22:09

I was brought up with these. We called them bum guns as kids. Loved they especially useful on a period.

Why do people think you clothes would get wet?

Wombats67 · 02/01/2023 22:12

I've wanted one ever since using one in Singapore airport, excellent after a long flight.

NannyGythaOgg · 02/01/2023 22:16

I love the Turkish ones. So long as you position yourself correctly they are great.

The 'guns' are available on Amazon for under £20 and anyone reasonably savvy can fit one. In some countries they are called 'shattaffs' - which, for some reason, is easy to remember

notprincehamlet · 02/01/2023 22:22

That loo is amazing - you'd feel like a fighter pilot

Snickers94 · 02/01/2023 22:22

I really want one of these as they use them in my parents' home country - but im not sure if you can use them with a concealed cistern??!

AriettyHomily · 02/01/2023 22:23

I didn't know they were Finnish too. I grew up in the ME and it's standard there, in public toilets and at home.

eurochick · 02/01/2023 22:34

I've never seen these in Scandinavia. But they are common in MENA.

thelengthspeoplegoto · 02/01/2023 22:41

I was in turkey a few months ago. I really got used to the little water jet. Would love to have them at home.

Goatling · 02/01/2023 22:45

I have one of these and I love it, none of my guests have ever commented on it, maybe they just think it's part of the plumbing.

Tomorrowisanewday · 02/01/2023 22:47

I work in construction in Scotland, and they have become fairly frequent requests in the last 5 years.
