Or am I just the worst parent?

Oh yes, I was ready on the 20th tbh and still have another week. Can currently hear usual fighting and arguing downstairs but can't face investigating again 😒
I find this holiday the worst as harder to do free activities and get outside to burn off energy.

Theemptychair23 · 01/01/2023 16:07

I am. My youngest goes to a special school, but hasn't been able to attend since his school transport fell through in November (County Council in the process of providing alternative transport. We live 10 miles from school and I don't drive).

Currently waiting to hear whether his new transport will be in place for him to return on Wednesday. I really hope so.

Nope.

Fingers crossed for you and your son @Theemptychair23 🤞

No! I love having them at home, no morning rush, no uniforms and games kits to sort. No clubs to organise and plan for, no homework to argue over.
That said, I’m also a teacher (at their school), so when they have to go back so do I and I don’t fucking want too! 😬

Iwritethissittinginthekitchensink · 01/01/2023 16:58

I don’t miss the school run, but yes, looking forward to some alone time!

Yep, this is pretty much where I am. Liking not having to get up in the morning but more than happy with the thought of not having them in the house all day!

Googlecanthelpme · 01/01/2023 16:59

1000 times yes.

im absolutely done in.

They love school so it won’t be a hardship for them, think they’ll actually be happy to be back around friends and have a bit of structure.

its been a very long couple of weeks

stormelf · 01/01/2023 17:02

I love having them at home (only oldest one at school currently) and watching them play together but definitely could do without the grouchiness now. Looking forward to their dance classes starting again as well

museumum · 01/01/2023 17:04

Absolutely not. But maybe if I didn’t also have to go back to work I’d feel differently.

Thatdidnthappen · 01/01/2023 17:09

Nope.

We all have lovely long sleeps. Even the two year old has been sleeping until 9am.

Plus I love having my 8 year old at home, she’s fabulous.

Comedycook · 01/01/2023 17:11

Can't wait! The endless demands for food have left me feeling like a short order chef/waitress.

LlynTegid · 01/01/2023 17:19

OP you are not the worst parent. You are there for your children, you acknowledge them. Just read some of the threads about non-resident parents or dads who use child access/time as a weapon to get back at the mother of their child.

On a lighter note, I am reminded of the words of one of the Paddington Bear stories. Paddington says 'all good things come to an end', to which one of the humans replies 'but if they did not come to an end there would not be other good things to look forward to'. (Apologies to the late Michael Bond if I have incorrectly quoted this).

DidyouNO · 01/01/2023 17:20

No. I hate to say it but I loved lockdown, never having to share them, never saying goodbye or having to do school runs. I love having them around. I'm a glutton for punishment though. I'm a mum of four, nan of 2, a childminder and foster carer

Notplayingball · 01/01/2023 17:25

Yes looking forward to schools going back. It's been lovely spending time together but there's often constant refereeing going on by DH or myself. It's exhausting. Time's they were back at school!

SeenAndNot · 01/01/2023 17:31

Another week to go for us!

DoubleShotEspresso · 01/01/2023 17:32

No, we were actually discussing earlier how DC would really benefit from another week off.
Was terribly unwell with a sickness bug for over3 weeks in run up to holidays and was already at the point of end of term/autistic burn out ... and seems we are there again. If I could keep them home longer I honestly would.

We’ve had the same conversation. Add missed the last three days of term as she was down with a high temp, chest infection followed, then we were all sick for two weeks. we’ve only been better the last few days.

I don’t feel like we’ve had a chance to enjoy much of it.

Thatdidnthappen · 01/01/2023 17:35

dd not add

Fingers and toes crossed for you, my youngest also goes to a special school and I know how bad the worry of no transport is

TokyoSushi · 01/01/2023 17:48

This holiday has actually been fine, we only broke up on 21st and I'm not ready to get back to school runs etc yet.

We had 2 weeks in October though, and that felt like 2 months, if not years!

Pineconederby · 01/01/2023 18:19

No - really short holiday here, finished midweek and back midweek. Last year it was a couple of weeks and then another couple of days. Feel like we’ve just about caught up with family and finally relaxed and we’re straight back into it. It’s a shame as with illness, everyone could do with another couple of days.

MarshaBradyo · 01/01/2023 18:25

Dd is keen to see her friends, she has seen them over the break but generally she gets excited for school, she’s in reception

I’m happy to start wfh again, I enjoy the quiet and doing my own thing

One dc still has another week off though

grapehyacinthisactuallyblue · 01/01/2023 18:29

Not really, I really like having my dc at home. And don't need to get up early when they are on school holiday. So, I would actually wish it lasted a bit longer.

Susanthehappytrottingelf · 01/01/2023 18:33

So ready for school to start.

I hate the Christmas holidays. We don't have much family to see, everyone else is busy, lots of stuff isn't open, weather is shit, hardly any holiday clubs..

Incredibly envious of those getting more sleep - mine are early risers no matter what, 6:15 has been the longest lie in so far this holiday
