Happy New Year Mumsnet? What's everyone's plans for the day?

I'm just drinking my first cuppa of the day, in my spot in the kitchen. The window's open so I can hear the birds outside.

Plan for today is to take down the Christmas decs while the girls' dad is about to put them in the loft & then clean the downstairs of the house. It's not too bad so shouldn't take too long.

Depending how long it does take, I want to paint my nails this afternoon. I didn't get round to it yesterday & last weeks is starting to look scruffy. At the very least, I'll take that off.

I don't think the girls will be up for a while yet, or will want to do much when they do get up; they both stayed up later than me last night 🤣

Roast beef for Sunday dinner 😋with yorkshire puds, and a cauliflower-cheese. I'm really looking forward to it, rarely buy beef any more these days.

What about all of you? Any nice plans? 🙂

Gosh @StormObelisk , that’s gorgeous!
I cannot get the hang of fair isle, it ends in tears and frustration 🙄

Happy new year! I'm at work (care home) just having my lunch. Leftover quiche. Back to work at half past one then I've got to collect my daughter, and we're making chocolate chip cookies tonight because she saw them in a film or something and is desperate to make her own.

RagzRebooted · 01/01/2023 13:35

We were up til late and had a small gathering with neighbours, but I managed to go to bed only very slightly tipsy, which is good as I work feeling fine. Though period pain means I've taken painkillers and having a lazy day.

I'm still in bed, in my Pyjamas drinking coffee.
I did get up at 10am to make sure DS got up for work, as he was a little drunk when he went to bed. I woke him with Berocca and paracetamol, but he was fine. Ah, to be young...
DH is watching his favourite film and having a 'hair of the dog'.
DS2 had an upset stomach yesterday so missed most of the NYE celebrations and still doesn't feel good, so he's in bed.
DD is also in bed still, on her phone with a cat on her lap.

No plans to do anything much today, though I will likely do laundry and potter about.
DH is meant to be cooking tonight, but he planned to do biryani and I fancy a more saucy curry, so I might get him to do the chicken chopping (my least favourite bit) and then I'll make it.

Happy new year!
Just warming up with a brew and the Christmas chocs and seeing if Ds is on the telly. Been at football-Ds team had a special experience thing so been there since 9.30 luckily the pub across the road from the ground does a good breakfast whilst they were training!
Going to take the remainder of the decs down in a mo.
Have steak pie for tea but might order Chinese as Ds has just asked to try it-he's been funny with food for years but is now open to allsorts so we indulge him where we can.
Very much looking forward to call the midwife and happy valley tonight.

Stayed in last night as recovering from illness. Took DC to the park this morning. Now watching a film and it's raining so I'm glad we went out this morning. Staring at my poor dead Xmas tree.

jmh740 · 01/01/2023 15:02

Usually have a big walk NYD but still feeling rubbish from covid so I've watched a bit of TV had a soak in the bath have a roast (chicken) in the oven and about to take the dog for a walk round the block.
Back to work wed so tree will probably come down tues

Happy New Year MN! Just back in from a dog walk, everyone we met smiled and said hello which was unexpected but nice.

I’ve tidied a few Christmas decs away but I leave most out until epiphany.

I have a side of salmon in fridge marinating away for later. Some leftover Brussels to prep and cook (I love them!) and an open bottle of champagne which I need to finish Xmas Wink

Happy new year!

Our NYE was fairly quiet, a light trail at teatime then home just us, toddler DD and my aunt for a some buffet food/ cheeseboard. I did manage to stay up till midnight for the first time in a few years though, and enjoyed watching some fireworks from the bedroom window at midnight.

Today I’ve been doing a few loads of washing, taken a few extra decorations down though the tree has a reprieve till 12th night, and been to the park with DD.

Just a pasta bake for dinner as we had planned to go out, however have ended up hosting aunt for an extra day and she says she’s not feeling up to going out! So was a case of what can we make with what we already have in. There’s still a pile of cheese, chocolate and Christmas cake to be used too.

Quite late in the day to reply to this really, but we've had a very relaxed day today.

DH and I have sorted out of office spaces (extremely lucky to have one each), which involved cleaning, organising and putting the last few Christmas gifts (mostly lego) away in their new homes. I have been trying to study for my next assignment too, but I have no mojo whatsoever. I'm really struggling with motivation for the whole course to be honest.

DH also organised and cleaned the utility room, which was in an embarrassing state to be honest, and I have helped DD start to get to grips with her new sewing machine. It didn't go well.

Have just put our pork joint in the oven for dinner, DH will finish everything else off as we have lots of pre-prepared stuff left over from Christmas that we need to use up. Then I will have a bath and finish watching Harry and Meghan in bed this evening.

Tomorrow I'm walking the dog with a friend, studying some more and rearranging DDs room to accomodate a bigger bookcase as she's filled the one she has currently. DD is off to riding camp for the day and DH will be helping with room arranging! Trying to get more organised before we're all back to school/work on Tuesday. I don't want to go. Sad

I slept in until midday thanks to OH getting up with DS (he's been doing that all week but he goes back to work tomorrow so my lie ins are over sadly), then played minecraft for a while to entertain DS. Watched TV with DD. Now I'm cooking a venison roast for a special meal for today, hope it turns out good.

Happy New Year!

We had a lazy morning and then I cooked a full English breakfast around 10am.

Then went on a walk round the local National Trust property with DH and DDs and stopped in at the café for a coffee. We also went round the house as it was still decorated for Christmas which was beautiful.

Home and DH and I have been putting away the Christmas decorations. DD1 is doing some homework and DD2 has been watching cartoons.

Beef stew and dumplings for dinner followed by an evening curled up on the sofa watching TV.

All in all a pretty perfect New Year's Day.

ChocHotolate · 01/01/2023 16:07

We went up to the Parade in Central London. It was brilliant, loads of matching bands & cheerleaders from America.

StormObelisk · 01/01/2023 17:57

@CoffeandTiaMaria it is my first knitting project for a decade 😂. I just stopped one day! I’ve got enough wool to sink a ship and just fancied making something that makes me concentrate to take my mind off other things in the evening….. wish me luck!

HelpMeGetThrough · 01/01/2023 18:18

We stayed in bed all day, dozing and drinking tea. We didn't have a late night either.

Finally got a shower at 5pm and just had tea.

Boys looked after themselves, I'm sure many kitchen raids were done.

EllaPaella · 01/01/2023 18:31

Slept in until 9, went to the beach and had a sea dip. Lovely atmosphere as there were so many going in today.
Came home and had a lovely hot bath and have spent the afternoon reading the new Richard Osman and playing board games with DH and the kids.
Had roast lamb for dinner follower by cheese and biscuits. Just having half an hour on the sofa then going to put a film on for us all to watch before and early night.

Hedjwitch · 01/01/2023 18:38

Very long lie in and the rest of the day at mums cleaning her house and looking after her.
Dinner was a bowl of pasta.

TribeD · 01/01/2023 18:57

It's been quite a nice day in our house - decorations are all down, and the house is clean, apart from the dining room. Weather has been miserable and so we haven't gone for a long walk as planned.

We're currently lying on sofa's, watching The Repair Shop, good job I'm wearing stretchy leggings, I've been chomping my way through the last of the Christmas chocolates 🍫 😁

lucysmam · 01/01/2023 20:46

Sorry @ssd I've only just sat down now & seen your post. My spot's not photo worthy 🤣 (neither of them). My kitchen spot is just the best seat in there, where I can see everything in the room from & the wildlife in the garden out the big windows.

Living room spot is just my chair, small table and assorted craft/book/nail related clutter depending what I'm doing.

Talking about them has got me thinking about adding to them though, to make them more pleasing to the eye. I might share if & when I do that, I'm in need of a new project so maybe that's it.

Tied away all the Christmas decorations, did some washing and generally got the house straight again.
