Anyone else CONSTANTLY cleaning their home?!

Rachell1 · 28/12/2022 20:15

Second cleaning thread from me… because I just feel as though ALL I do is clean. Literally.

I hoover the whole house once a day but usually have to go over the kitchen and living room again in the evening.

Countertops is multiple times per day and currently dishwasherless so about 3 loads of dishes per day. Then there’s the general tidying up, cleaning other areas etc etc.

Making sure everyone is fed 3 times per day is also knackering?!

I think i’m just feeling a little drained today but if anyone has any good tips on how to manage it all better….?!

This is my life, has been for as long as I can remember. yes. It’s shit

catsnore · 28/12/2022 21:56

Can you let standards slide a bit? And allocate jobs to others of possible, take the pressure off. It's their house too x

Krakenwakes · 28/12/2022 21:58

Hoovering the whole house once a day and some rooms twice is completely excessive, in my opinion. You need to stop that. It’s not necessary.

Cloverforever · 28/12/2022 21:59

Unless you have multiple pets, that sounds excessive to me.

prettygreenteacup · 28/12/2022 21:59

Hoover the whole house every day?! Do you have tons of people wearing shoes throughout the house or pets? If neither of those, why are you spending so much time doing it? I hoover, dust, do beds, bathroom etc once a week! Takes me a couple of hours max. Kitchen just gets cleaned as I go along after meals etc. Life is too short to spend this much time cleaning...

Muchtoomuchtodo · 28/12/2022 21:59

No. It seriously can’t get that dirty.

Hbh17 · 28/12/2022 22:00

No, because this amount of cleaning is absolutely NOT necessary. For anyone.

Bestcatmum · 28/12/2022 22:02

I clean once a week because I work 6 days a week in the NHS. If I lived with a man and kids they would be doing a lot of chores I can tell you.
Why are you doing all the cleaning?
You're house doesn't have to immaculate at all times you know.
When you die do you want to be remembered for being an over the top cleaner or do you want to be remembered for being a fun and interesting person to be with.

Supersimkin2 · 28/12/2022 22:04

Robovac is your friend. Gets enough off the floors daily to hoover properly only twice a week.

I have white floors (pls never do this) & two huge fluffy cats and robovac restores your sanity and free time.

BrookeDavisQueen · 28/12/2022 22:04

Yes.

I don't hoover every day, I have wooden floors so can get away with a quick sweep once or twice a day.

But the reality is adulthood is just cleaning your kitchen over and over again.

Stuffin · 28/12/2022 22:05

I think you need to lower your standards.

You don't need a clinically clean house. If you aren't licking the carpet/floors then you don't need to hoover them once, let alone twice a day.

The world will not end if the floors have a bit of dirt/mess on them for a couple of days.

No, that’s ridiculous. Do you have a partner? If so, why don’t they do any cooking or cleaning? I have two small dogs that shed and even I don’t hoover every day. Once a week with a bit of dusting in between is enough. some crumbs, fluff and dishes aren’t going to kill anyone!

DappledThings · 28/12/2022 22:06

God no, I don't care enough to clean that much. Hoover about once a fortnight. Lounge gets swept about once a week. Kitchen is only room done daily.

DappledThings · 28/12/2022 22:08

Oh FFS. [NameNumber] started it, another [NameNumber] advertises a cleaning agency.....

This'll be gone in 5 mins.

YouWouldNotBelieveIt · 28/12/2022 22:08

How many children have you got, OP? You hoover the whole house EVERY DAY? Why? Surely it's more important to be happy and spend time with your kids than it is to clean all the time?

Yeah I was just thinking the same Angry

Rachell1 · 28/12/2022 22:11

It’s been interesting reading the responses! I do think I have perhaps set the bar too high (especially with young children, i’m just non stop tidying up after them!).

To be honest the bar wasn’t set this high by me. My partner really has quite bad ocd and where he works 6 days a week and very long hours, I think his nagging and nit picking has probably just become embedded in me that the house NEEDS to be spotless at all times 🤣 which I understand is unrealistic even without kids/pets etc.

In terms of meals… I think, again, i’ve just got into the habit of trying to give them the best (cooked breakfast, different lunches every day, different home cooked meals every day), and it is just exhausting me.

If it was just me, I’d happily have tuna and a jacket pot for dinner!

Perhaps I just need to stop and make life easier for myself…

Muchtoomuchtodo · 28/12/2022 22:13

Well i haven’t hoovered today and we did have jackets for tea, we’re still alive (and sat drinking wine and eating after eights…..)

Grumpycatsmum · 28/12/2022 22:19

Stop doing it. Feeding is essential. Hoovering twice a day definitely isn't.

Minniem2020 · 28/12/2022 22:36

Me. I'm always cleaning/ tidying but every day it looks like I haven't bothered. To be fair though it's all the kids new Christmas things that are causing the most mess at the moment. That and the fact that the kids are off school and dp is off work is just adding to it. At least in term time it's relatively tidy between the hours of 9-3.
I'm desperate to get the Christmas tree put away to get a bit more space back which will help but they'll all think I'm miserable if I do it this early.

Beezknees · 28/12/2022 22:46

Why do you hoover once a day? I hoover about once a week. I don't care if there's a little bit of fluff in between or whatever on the floor, it's not toxic waste.

NoSquirrels · 28/12/2022 22:48

But the reality is adulthood is just cleaning your kitchen over and over again.

Indeed.

But get a robot hoover, OP. It’ll change your life.

Grassisbluer · 28/12/2022 22:48

There are much better things you could be doing with your time rather than hoovering, OP. Like resting!
Seriously, the amount of cleaning you're doing is not necessary.
Your parther needs to get treatment for his OCD (if OCD it is - just wanting a clean house does not necessarily mean OCD - has he been diagnosed?).
