Anyone else CONSTANTLY cleaning their home?!

Second cleaning thread from me… because I just feel as though ALL I do is clean. Literally.

I hoover the whole house once a day but usually have to go over the kitchen and living room again in the evening.

Countertops is multiple times per day and currently dishwasherless so about 3 loads of dishes per day. Then there’s the general tidying up, cleaning other areas etc etc.

Making sure everyone is fed 3 times per day is also knackering?!

I think i’m just feeling a little drained today but if anyone has any good tips on how to manage it all better….?!

No, I'm retired and I have better things to do than constantly clean, vacuuming gets done weekly if I can be so inclined

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 28/12/2022 22:52

Absolutely not. I do often wonder about women who are endlessly cleaning, and do wonder whether they actually get some perverse masochistic pleasure out of making themselves martyrs to housework.
As the old saying goes, a bit of dust never killed anybody.

Right, then your partner needs to get help for his OCD.

Is his phobia around cleanliness? Don't make his problem your problem. Your cleaning is OTT, and cleaning as much as he wants will not help his ICD; it will fuel his belief that everything has to be spotless to be safe.

JPs are a great dinner, we have that at least once a week when everyone is at school. Pots on timer in the oven so kitchen is warm when we get home, everyone chooses their topping. I serve a side salad. Bit of fruit and yoghurt for pudding. Everything eaten and at least 2-3 fruit/veg portions.

toomuchlaundry · 28/12/2022 23:04

If your partner wants the house spotless he can clean it

Sunsetintheeast · 28/12/2022 23:04

You hoover EVERY DAY??? Do you have cats and dogs OP? Serious question. If not, this is really really excessive.

What happens if you don’t vac? Seriously, what happens? What’s the downside risk? Not preference, downside risk.

I can tell you the upside, about 3 hours of me time?

Judelawsnanny · 28/12/2022 23:07

Multiple anti baccing of surfaces is nuts

gingercat02 · 28/12/2022 23:09

I have 2 cats one teen one husband
Hoover downstairs weekly-ish upstairs rarely
Dishes daily
Kitchen daily
Bathrooms weekly
Everyone mucks in we both work DH long hours me 3 full days 1/2 days
Seriously chill OP

yaflouloci · 28/12/2022 23:09

I don't class hoovering and clearing/wiping countertops as cleaning tasks. It just has to be done.

Plainlyme · 28/12/2022 23:11

I am also constantly cleaning. With 5 kids between 19 months and 11yrs old and 2 big dogs our house just seems to need constant attention.
Not to mention the 3 meals a day with all the prep, clean up and pots afterwards. The clothes washing seems ridiculous too, my washing machine seems to never stop running!
I definitely feel you. It's exhausting. My standards aren't set too high, I think my kids are just so damn messy (especially my 19mo lmao)

Forever42 · 28/12/2022 23:12

Our house is hoovered once a week, counters wiped daily. Both work ft, two pre-teens to take all over the place. It's not pristine but tidy enough and nobody has died from the filth.

Orangedaisy · 28/12/2022 23:13

I’m hoovering, mopping, changing beds and cleaning toilets every day at the moment. Because I have 14 extra people in the house (fortunately not at the same time) over the course of this week and last, and with the catering (crumbs) and wrapping paper, plus dreadful weather outside all the muck coming in (despite shoes off) it’s really necessary to keep things reasonable. I’m also off work this week to enjoy all the visitors. Once they’ve all gone and I’ve reset will be back to once a fortnight hoovering and cleaning.

MushMonster · 28/12/2022 23:23

Yes, OP, a good amount of "free" time is spent cleaning, laundering and tidying up.
I do not mind the cooking, that is time well spent, but it takes a while.
I work full time and struggle to keep the house tidy. I spend a lot of my holiday time doing a deep cleaning and decorating of the house.
I do have 4 cats, so here cleaning the floors daily is a must, though we only have carpet upstairs, so it is easier to clean. Sometimes we just do not have time during the week, so it is done the nect day.
We are thinking of changing the floors upstairs to wood too as that would be much easier for us.
What I have is lots and lots of laundry, with sofa and bed covers washed rather often. I hate laundry.

Cleanthatup · 28/12/2022 23:40

Wow I am really surprised at these responses!

we hoover twice a day too, we have white tiles and I can see every speck on them. It takes 30 mins to give the downstairs a good clean, I don’t get the issue, we love our clean house.

cleaning once a week, some houses must be stinking and the owners don’t care/notice it.

toomuchlaundry · 28/12/2022 23:56

@Cleanthatup or maybe people have a life

rebekahnorris · 28/12/2022 23:59

Try to 'tidy as you go' I have found this a game changer. Although I understand family members don't do same. Also I follow the organisers mum method and it stops me over cleaning

bagelsandcheese · 29/12/2022 00:00

I clean like this. Not obsessed or anything either but my house gets dirty and messy so quick. there are constant bits from the kids from food ect.Go out and mud is trailed in twice a day ( dog) toothpaste all over sink from when kids do there teeth. crumbs over counters in kitchen all the time. Hand marks everywhere. Nerf bullets everywhere. It's never ending cleaning g the same thing over and over...
