I'm suggesting that the manner in which you describe it suggests you either know nothing or choose to misrepresent it, glorifying in skills no kid is taught, that no sensible person would rely on outside books and films.

Only you know which is true.

Oh, and I am congenitally incapable of mansplaining anything.

Alternatively that's something else you are misrepresenting.

Aikido is a martial art that focuses on self-defence without seriously injuring your attacker. There’s nothing wrong with “glorifying” such skills because it’s actually harder and takes more skill than simply being the most violent person. There’s nothing wrong with me describing the entirety of it, instead of focussing only on what a new beginner would learn.

Aikido is rare in that it does teach weapons defence skills. You were 100% incorrect by claiming otherwise.

There is no misrepresentation on my part here. I have only used plain English to describe some aspects as saying oh you’ll learn different nages, toris and doris blah blah would be extremely confusing as the terminology is all in Japanese.

As for your claiming aikido skills are such that “no sensible person would rely on outside books and films” …that’s a complete misrepresentation as there are tons of aikido specialists that train our Police on aikido skills are which are used in real life on the streets.

Actually, it’s quite plain you know nothing about Aikido at all.

If you say so. But your overly enthusiastic post about disarming multiple armed people, to a poster who is expressing doubts about the suitability of a different martial art, remains absolutely tone deaf and utterly ridiculous.

Maybe a little quiet meditation is in order!

Mine go. All four of them , boys and girls, youngest is 4 eldest is 12. They love it, it's great. Really good for confidence and great for fitness. Instructors are fantastic, it's a family ran club.

FFS, if the 8yr old DC likes aikido and if they train for 4hrs a week, then they might be taking their 1st Dan test as early as age 16. I was stating the end goal, not saying what little children would be doing!

Perhaps you shouldn’t be going on about something about which you are entirely ignorant. Aikido is not some minor martial art where you can just show up for an hour once a week and have a black belt in two years.

Just don’t like any kind of physical violence what so ever

also would it eventually lead to sparing

It’s a sport. It’s not about what you like. Your child is a separate person from you
