Looking for inspiration, with or without the kids

Accidentally organised a party. Had a drink , was asked what we were doing - turns out I'm super hospitable after a Prosecco Grin

Brilliant!

We are going to stay with our best and oldest friends. Will take all DC ice skating in the day/early evening then they will barrel around having a great time while their parents stay up too late and drink too much.

I’ll be cooking a fancy meal for whoever is at home (not sure what teen dc will be doing yet), and we’ll have champagne in the garden at midnight whilst watching (other people’s) fireworks. I love NYE, much better than Christmas Day.

Eff all as per usual. Never get an invitation anywhere, mind you we never plan to go to anywhere either. Will watch Jools bloody Holland for the 20 something year in a row, (filmed months ago). Don’t like NYE, overhyped.

ilovepixie · 27/12/2022 22:07

Not a thing. It's just another night.

Haye that its not live feels so fake

StealingYourWiFi · 27/12/2022 22:09

Dosing the dog up with anti-anxiety (for the fireworks) meds
getting an Indian takeaway
falling asleep on the sofa
hear the fireworks outside go off about 30 seconds before our tv catches up with the countdown (it’s always bloody delayed)
off to bed

bumblefeline · 27/12/2022 22:13

DD is off to the local nightclub she has a ticket. Me, DH and DD2 will stay in with some nice food.

Never really liked NYE makes me feel sad and I don't know why?

thefirstmrsrochester · 27/12/2022 22:15

Fuck all.

2022 has been a shitter, DS was diagnosed with cancer and not so DH left us all 6 weeks after DS had his last chemo.

I will be going to bed early and hoping for a better 2023.

MajorCarolDanvers · 27/12/2022 22:16

Traditional Hogmanay dinner with all my family, booze and board games until The Bells.

orangetriangle · 27/12/2022 22:17

nothing enjoying peace and quiet hopefully dont like new year

AkoraEdelherb · 27/12/2022 22:18

Working until 10pm or so. I may or may not go to some friends after. I’d rather go home and sleep early after midnight. Then I work again from 11am on New Year’s Day.

LemonDrizzle89 · 27/12/2022 22:24

3 couples coming round to ours , all with dc similar ages to ours from 6-15 years old , means everyone gets together, adults can drink and the kids can play, and everyone has a good time without having to go ‘out out ‘ !

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 27/12/2022 22:26

DH has a gig with his band. DD and I were going to go to a family party but I've spent all Xmas being ill so I just can't be bothered

Slimjimtobe · 27/12/2022 22:28

Going to a panto as a family then home for a few drinks once dc are in bed. we will make s’mores and do sparklers before they head off

out for a meal for New Years Sunday dinner

Slimjimtobe · 27/12/2022 22:29

firstmrs that’s so shit
hope 2023 brings you happiness and your son keeps well
cant believe how selfish dh was

SallyWD · 27/12/2022 22:32

Have had family staying for a week over Christmas with many late nights and excessive wine drinking. The last thing I want is another boozy late night so I'll be in bed by 10!

Cocopogo · 27/12/2022 22:33

@EveryLittleWish we wanted to do that but it’s £500 for train tickets for the 4 of us that’s before we found somewhere to stay

We're having the same friends round that we spend every new year with - the eldest dcs are 17 now though so this will be the first year without them as our ds has a party to go to - it's only over the road though so hopefully he'll pop in.
We usually go for a drink first then take it in turns to cook - our year this year - have some drinks, play some games and watch the fireworks at 12. Ds13 and their ds12 always have a laugh too.

Cocopogo · 27/12/2022 22:37

@thefirstmrsrochester that’s really shit. Hope 2023 is a fresh start for you all

Logicalreasoning · 27/12/2022 22:42

Hopefully not working ( depends wether we get smashed at work the next 3 days and don’t finish)
gonna get up, play games with dc, have kebab shop for dinner... ( never cooked New Year’s Eve, my whole life we’ve always eaten out, takeaway, or been at a party... still adhering to that tradition.
Then we will put music on and just have fun...
we’ve been invited to a party, it’s a standing invitation from a family friend, DS has asd so that’s a no go, and I’m not leaving him alone on New Year’s Eve.

Greyarea12 · 27/12/2022 22:46

Games night and party food.

reluctantbrit · 27/12/2022 22:50

We meet at a friend's house, 4 families, 8 adults and 8 children 7-15 year olds.

We do this for a couple of years now, it's lovely low key, the children entertain themselves in different rooms and we chat, eat food and just have a great evening.

Cm078 · 27/12/2022 22:50

Night shift 😴

Tulipvase · 27/12/2022 22:54

Probably having friends over for the evening. It’s my eldest’s birthday (older teen) so we do tend to do something here if we can.
