Should I correct my boss?

My team emails each other a lot in our line of work and my boss makes spelling or grammar mistakes that annoy me whenever I see them. I know it is my OCD trait but it does make me go ick whenever this happens.

Examples are:
CoVid
Thru instead of through
Pls let me know if questions

Should I mention this to him privately?

Perhaps you could raise it in a team meeting ? And offer to help any other team members who are tempted to use abbreviations in internal communications ? You never know - this may be giving your colleagues the 'ick' too.

Brilliant idea🤣. OP could offer to hold basic writing courses at lunch time. Say you have noticed your boss is not using formal English in emails and your belief this casual style of communication is inappropriate and unprofessional. Also suggest colleagues are not addressed by their Christian names, rather given their full titles. There can be no place for informality in the work place🙃

Could you clarify whether you mean OCD as in ‘I must do this exact thing this exact number of times or my mother will die’ or ‘I’m a bit fussy about SPAG’, OP?

No lol. You need to work on your intolerance.

Many moons ago all my notes thru O & A level were in a sort of sms shorthand,
Mtn for "mountain"
@ for "at"

  • for "and"... etc. Surely this is no different

You had better button it with your boss ...

If you actually have OCD (formally diagnosed) what are your coping strategies? You could of course bring that up in a 1-1 that you find abbreviations difficult in relation to this (if you have disclosed the diagnosis).

If you're 'a bit OCD' meaning you're just a bit particular you need to let it go.
