Gifts for 7 year old that were a surprising hit.

My DD's 7th birthday is next week. She only asked for a couple of bits for Christmas so that was easy to fulfill.

I've asked her what she wants for her birthday and she doesn't have a clue. Neither do I.

She's not big into dolls / Barbie's / play sets etc. Has a bike / scooter / usual outdoor stuff.

She loves crafting and spends pretty much all her time doing something crafty but we have soooo much craft stuff right now with pretty much all the extended family getting her bits and bobs.

She does like board games and we have a good collection.

So please help inspire me Mumsnet. Did your 7 / 8 year old receive anything for Christmas that was a surprising hit?

vtech secret safe notebook was a hit in this house (from Argos). Also a jellycat of her current favourite animal! I didn’t expect either of those to be the favourite presents but they’re the ones that haven’t been put down.

I'm in same position so this thread is helpful thank you! Things my DD loved for Christmas that was quite unexpected was Exploding Kittens and this astronaut projector.

Lego dots & Spirograph made my DD very happy on her 7 th birthday just before Christmas.

Our Generation was a big hit too along with a friendship bracelet making kit.

SinnerBoy · 27/12/2022 15:47

If she's an arty type, as you say, have you thought of blow pens? There are different age versions, my girl loved the ones I got when she was 7. If you're also arty, like my DW, you can make your own stencils, too.

A Revell model kit of the Eiffel Tower was a huge hit for my 9yo dd. She wants to spend her Xmas money on more sets.

The cheapest things - lava lamp and nail polish!

DD 7 just got a Smiggle bag for her birthday. It's absolutely hideous to look at but she loves it so much. Plenty of pockets and zippers to fill with treasure...

Gingerlygreen · 27/12/2022 16:10

My 7yr old dd loved these colouring wall art canvases, I bought her a set of nice pens from the Range too, I can't remember the name but they're markers with a brush end and a fine end, they were in the craft section not with the usual kids colouring pens

Another vote for Lego Dots.

OopsTooMuch · 27/12/2022 16:18

Also a mala art travel case from ikea and some posh felt tips to go inside

Mol1628 · 27/12/2022 16:26

Mine loves Lego technic models.

Most played with toy so far though has been the walkie talkies. 7 and 10 year olds have been playing with them constantly. We got decent Long range ones though not kiddie ones. It’s encouraged a lot of exercise surprisingly as well.

Badge making set. She spent all day making badges for every family member

DisorganisedMess · 27/12/2022 17:28

Kinetic Sand. She has played with it more than the Nintendo Switch she has been begging for since the summer!!

SinnerBoy · 27/12/2022 17:35

Kinetic Sand is banned in our house, it gets bloody everywhere!

Popsicle27 · 27/12/2022 20:21

A hamster cage with a voucher for pets at home to choose her own hamster, it's like she's win the lottery!

Slimjimtobe · 27/12/2022 20:25

randomjo · 27/12/2022 20:33

Tamagotchi and Don't Wake Dad boardgame have gone down well with 7 year old dd

ITSSSSCHRISTMASSS · 27/12/2022 20:40

Dd 8yo got lots of art related stuff, pads, paints, Posca pens (big hit), paint by numbers, how to draw gatcha, design your own comic book, her big gift was her own drafting table. Other hits were make up, she loves experimenting and creating art makeup styles, got her a nice makeup box & clothes.

Other ideas - 3D pen, wireless headphones, Fitbit, voucher for crafting classes at somewhere like hobby craft.

Fedupsequin · 27/12/2022 20:52

A microphone from Amazon that can connect to devices and be used for karaoke (17.99) and the kids dyson hair set-I’ve had lots of hairdresser appointments the last few days which gives me downtime so long as I nod and agree 😂

OhChristmasTreeOhChristmasTreeFaLaLa · 27/12/2022 20:55

My daughter is also 7 next week, for Christmas she got lots of bits of things, she's also into craft too although we didn't get her any for Xmas. She loved her crystal flyer, lego friends set, secret safe diary, curlimal, frozen doll, lots of clothes (lots of frozen stuff), girly accessories, bracelets (stuff from Claires or h+m) bags, makeup, screwball scramble 2, squishmallow... I think we might get her a new karaoke machine for her bday and a dressing table with a big mirror, maybe a light up yoyo, I got her a yoyo in her elf box that was about £1 and doesn't work, I had a light up one I loved as a child, think she'd like one. It's so hard so soon after Xmas, we try to keep a few ideas for her bday.
