My DD's 7th birthday is next week. She only asked for a couple of bits for Christmas so that was easy to fulfill.

I've asked her what she wants for her birthday and she doesn't have a clue. Neither do I.

She's not big into dolls / Barbie's / play sets etc. Has a bike / scooter / usual outdoor stuff.

She loves crafting and spends pretty much all her time doing something crafty but we have soooo much craft stuff right now with pretty much all the extended family getting her bits and bobs.

She does like board games and we have a good collection.

So please help inspire me Mumsnet. Did your 7 / 8 year old receive anything for Christmas that was a surprising hit?

I gave my 8 year old DN a mirror ball and she was delighted. DBro has sweetly put it up in the living room (I'd aimed it for her bedroom) so now we can all have proper disco parties, total bonus.

Is your daughter into STEM toys? My son loves anything STEM related and I bought him a super scientific stem set from Argos for £27 which he absolutely loved.

BryanAdamsLeftAnkle · 27/12/2022 11:08

These are a list of what my son got and loves. National geographic gem stones, a badge maker, shark tooth extraction kit. Science kits.

Then her other fave presents were;

My 7 year old got a Fitbit Ace and it has been a great hit!

MuddlingThrough1724 · 27/12/2022 14:42

My 6 year old has spent hours playing with the FAO Schwartz fashion designer set I got her from M&S (lots of other similar available on Amazon). I had something similar as a child and loved it too! Dd also very crafty, has enjoyed the lego dots unicorn set with pen holder/bunting/frames to make, cotton twist craft sets, a wooden bank from Aldi and we love the londji board games - they are fantastic quality. The Eugy card models are good fun and can be done alone at 7 I imagine.

EducatingArti · 27/12/2022 14:46

A "crafting accessories" box with sellotape, masking tape, duct tape, scissors, string, wool, washi tape, split pins, paperclips and bulldog clips whatever type of glue you are happy with her having ( even a cool melt glue gun to be used under adult supervision).

JauntyJollyfish · 27/12/2022 14:51

My 6 1/2 year old loved her Lego dots. She's quite crafty and enjoyed being able to make the patterns/decorations. And handy as it's mess free compared to other crafts!

OopsTooMuch · 27/12/2022 14:52

Dd got this Crystal mining set
It’s amazing with so many crystals. She’s spent hours playing with it. Mining them, cleaning them, looking them up, sorting them…
