How the feck do you store pots and pans?

I am middle aged and then some and still haven't got this sussed. Frying pans, pots, lids. One big deep "pan drawer". How do I do this properly so it's not a big clanking pile of chaos?!

I have 2 pan drawers - both clanking chaos. Sauce pans in one, frying/sauté pans in the other
Daughter has clanking piles
I don't think there's an answer other than hanging up (personally wouldn't like this) or a ridiculous amount of shelf space or fewer pans
In drawer I have 4 sauté pans and about 6 frying pans but all are used for different purposes

DillDanding · 27/12/2022 09:48

We have 3 deep drawers, and another drawer where baking stuff lives.

MangoBiscuit · 27/12/2022 09:50

Ours are in a double cupboard, on this rack;

We don't have a pan drawer, I thought about changing the cupboard to one, but the rack works, and leaves me space for caserole and serving dishes. The lids are on the inside of the doors on hooks.

Ours are in a drawer all piled up but we have this storage rack for the lids, but you can also use it for pans.

ToooOldForThis · 27/12/2022 11:00

Thank you so much for those rack recommendations! I'm wondering now if the pan drawer is the right place but don't think I have the strength for a kitchen overhaul!

Our frying pans and griddle live on the top of the top cupboards. I made sure when the kitchen was designed that there would be a big enough gap there. Saucepans are in a bottom cupboard, the set of 3 in a pyramid so the lids are upside-down with a smaller pan on top.

Don't talk to me about baking trays and tins though - they are a disaster area.

Old house - pan rack above the sink. Brilliant.

New house - shoved in a double cupboard that means you can never find or access what you want 🤨

Baking trays something a bit like Kitchen Bakeware Organiser - Steel Baking Tray Rack and Cutting Board Holder - Ideal Kitchen Storage Solution - Chrome Finish amzn.eu/d/0Rbsn5Y this that the previous owners left in the bottom of the oven and we've relocated.

Hmm, bad link
Next try: baking rack storage

bloodywhitecat · 27/12/2022 11:14

On a pan rack above the hob like this one

I have two deep drawers, all the pans in one with the lids in the rack from IKEA, the other drawer had the slow cooker, large casserole and large veg steamers.

I have two pan drawers and a cupboard under the oven.

Top pan drawer - frying pans and woks thrown in one one side and pan lids on other
Bottom drawer - saucepans and other pans stacked together

Cupboard under oven has baking trays and roasting tins loosely stacked in. The key is to shove the tins in and then close the door very quickly !

NeverDropYourMooncup · 27/12/2022 11:20

Metal shelf and hooks for the 3 pans and the wok/glass lid sits on the hob.

I don't really see the need for anything else.

mynameiscalypso · 27/12/2022 11:20

I just embrace the pan drawer chaos personally.

musicandpassion · 27/12/2022 11:22

We have the tefal ingenio pans which have a separate handle. We love them and they stack beautifully!

Giggorata · 27/12/2022 11:22

I have heavy duty hooks on one of the larder walls for the pans, with their lids in a large mesh metal crate on a shelf.
Colanders and steamers hang from the larder ceiling on hooks.
Frying pans are on another shelf.
Baking tins, sheets and racks are in an old metal files rack on another shelf.

AdelaideRo · 27/12/2022 11:25

Mine sit very neatly in one pan drawer.
the three saucepans sit separately with their lids on top

then there is a pile of big fry pan, felt protector, wok, felt protector, small fry pan, felt protector, steaming basket, sieves.
I have the tefal ingenio woks/fry pans with removable handle.

small Le creuset casserole is in drawer below along side baking tins.

huge, little used Le creuset is stored in dining room.

reluctantbrit · 27/12/2022 11:26

Deep pan and pot drawers, one for frying pans (currently 6 plus 1 lid) and one for the pots. The pots are stacked (2-3) with one of the smaller lids turned upside down and a larger lid on top. Extra lids are carefully placed at the side of the drawer.

AnnaMagnani · 27/12/2022 11:28

One pan drawer, buy pots and pans with clip on handle.

All the pots and pans stack nicely, you have one handle for the lot which you clip on and off when you need to move a hot pan.

Lifechanging.

Flamingosarentreal · 27/12/2022 11:29

I have the tefal ingenio pans which have separate handles. They stack in the drawer and I don't have problems with handles sticking pit on the hob when using them.

yomellamoHelly · 27/12/2022 11:30

We have a deep drawer with another shallow drawer within it (part of kitchen redo). Lids go in shallow drawer. Pans in the deep drawer.

C1N1C · 27/12/2022 11:33

What has worked in my house is for me to try to put them away, the wife opens the door and they fall everywhere, she gets fed up and decides there is a 'system'... system appears to be smallest to largest stacked in the cupboard, this will periodically get messed up and subsequently reorganised by said wife.

TheLeadbetterLife · 27/12/2022 11:33

I can't stand pan drawers or keeping them stacked in cupboards, it's a faff to get them in and out and they can get chipped and damaged if you're not careful (which I'm not).

I made a hanging rail above the sink, so when they're washed up they go straight on a hook. All the frying pans and saucepans go up there. The lids are in a rack on the wall. Bigger stock pots and the like go in a cupboard, but they all have their own space and are not stacked.

Mentalpiece · 27/12/2022 11:35

I got round it by chucking it all out.
I bought a new set of pans and realised that I was hanging on to the old ones....just because.
I mean, an ancient frying pan with more dints and dings in it and a burnt outer bottom.
A pan without a handle, which had a hole in it where the handle used to be.
Muffin tins, for muffins I never made ( I hate baking )
Why? Why was I hanging on to them?
So now I have three saucepans and two frying pans and a couple of baking trays.
I still rarely use the pans though as I use the steamer.
Liberate your cupboards.

Deadringer · 27/12/2022 11:39

We keep them in the cupboard under the sink. They stack so not too bad, what I really hate is the trays etc from the oven, I have nowhere to put the rest when I am only using one of them. Drives me nuts

JerkintheMerkin · 27/12/2022 11:42

Store them in my oven.
