Would you expect something to accompany your Camembert?

Xmas dinner in the pub. The whole meal was a disappointment to be honest but the real kicker was the Camembert which was served with . . . Nothing!
Just a lump of melted cheese and a fork to eat it with 🤔

When I asked if it came with bread they just pointed out that it didn't mention it on the menu. Well it didn't but since when was it just served with a fork?!
Am I just not experienced enough in the cheese area?

Yes it should have come with bread

Luredbyapomegranate · 26/12/2022 21:23

It would come with crackers and some veg or maybe bread. V bizarre to serve nothing w it.

Sounds like you need to leave an honest review.

ImTheOnlyUpsyOne · 26/12/2022 21:24

Ridiculous. Should have had something to go with

Yes something to dunk into it, bread, crackers, veggies....anything tbh but not plain cheese. Awful

MangoDaquiri · 26/12/2022 21:35

That’s awful! Absolutely should come with bread or crackers.

brusselspout · 26/12/2022 21:35

Bloody hell of course it should've come with bread. And if they pointed out that the menu didn't state bread I would have insisted on it anyway. What kind of shabby establishment is this?!

LargeglassofRosePlease · 26/12/2022 21:36

Of course it should be with bread . Or crackers.
I would be well fucked off

Summerishere123 · 26/12/2022 21:38

I'm glad others thought so too. To be honest the entire meal was awful which is a shame as we went to the same place last year and loved it! This year we paid £400 to feed 4 adults and 2 kids and no one enjoyed their meal.
Soup didn't come with dipping bread, Pate came with a piece of "toast" which was the same size as the crouton on the soup. Turkey dinner was flavourless as was the puddings.

I just wanted to check I wasn't wrong in thinking the cheese needed some assistance!

Wakk · 26/12/2022 21:39

I would complain. I couldn't eat a load of cheese with nothing else.

bellac11 · 26/12/2022 21:40

What pub is this so we can avoid it?

KnickerlessParsons · 26/12/2022 21:41

we paid £400 to feed 4 adults and 2 kids and no one enjoyed their meal

£400 isn't a lot for 6 people for lunch on Christmas Day tbh.

Pterrydactyl · 26/12/2022 21:41

Yeah you need something to dip into the cheese. Ideally bread.

It is to be served a really shite meal. A bald Camembert is an abomination.

labazslovesliving · 26/12/2022 21:43

I often have breadsticks but nothing with it a definite no

It’s a lot for a shit meal.

KnickerlessParsons · 26/12/2022 23:01

It’s a lot for a shit meal.

My point being - it was probably shit because it was cheap.
It's a lot for a meal on any other day, but £66 each is v cheap for Christmas Day. You get what you pay for.

ZeViteVitchofCwismas · 26/12/2022 23:29

Of course it's lot if the level of professionalism doesn't stretch to a piece of bread

RedAndBlueStripedGolfingUmbrella · 27/12/2022 01:33

I'd have expected some crusty bread. Or at least something to dip into the cheese.
Just forkfuls of cheese sounds meh 😁

Bunnycat101 · 27/12/2022 04:02

Would expect bread or crackers and ideally a nice chutney and grapes. If they’re not going to do it nicer than you could do at home what’s the point. Agree though that for Xmas day the bulk of your cost is going to be staffing not food.

Nat6999 · 27/12/2022 04:45

I would expect at least some bread & maybe something like Asparagus or cubes of meat to dip. £400 for the quality of meal you got is daylight robbery, you could have done better at home, make a complaint asap, hopefully you should get either some money back or vouchers towards another meal.

AnyMucca · 27/12/2022 04:50

Here we go, you get what you pay for brigade.

BlooberryBiskits · 27/12/2022 05:17

Sounds like maybe they had a problem with bread delivery if none with soup, tiny crouton etc …

Yes of course a baked Camembert is always served with some bread … complain by email & see what response you get

Yes I get what your point was, obviously. But £66 each is too much for a bad meal, whatever day of the year. My parents paid £70 a head for Christmas dinner at a local hotel and said it was lovely.
Serving some bread or crackers alongside a baked Camembert is the most basic of requirements, despite it being on the cheap side for a Christmas meal.

It is if it’s inedible.

We got crackers, butter .... and grapes ..
