Omg restless legs are doing my head in. Im sure alcohol doesn't help but FFS it's Christmas Eve. Please tell me how to make it STOP.

Fentylipgloss · 24/12/2022 21:39

You can't make it stop, well, I've not found anything. Worst time is when I'm
trying to sleep. x

heartbeatt · 24/12/2022 21:40

Paracetamol. Magnesium supplements long term. It's fucking miserable, you have my sympathy.

SierraSapphire · 24/12/2022 21:40

More iron?

Whatstherecipe · 24/12/2022 21:41

Oh I feel your pain. I sometimes get my DP to put his weight on them, or rub them for a bit.
I wonder if a hand held massager gun thing might work? (I don't have one!)

Beachy77 · 24/12/2022 21:43

Sounds strange but elastic bandage on the leg helps me (read somewhere that it send different messages to rhe brain). Cocodamol sometimes and erm orgasm too.

It's always a sign my iron is low. Good luck, it's miserable.

PetronellaOsgood · 24/12/2022 21:43

Is it your thyroid? I always get restless legs when my thyroid meds aren’t balanced.
It is awful, try magnesium long term and maybe a warm bath right now?

Freddiesextrateeth · 24/12/2022 21:43

You need magnesium
A supplement to take every evening and also the lotion works well for relief. Eating a banana might help, but defo get some magnesium

Coraline353 · 24/12/2022 21:43

Lie with your bum up against the wall/headboard and legs up the wall before you go to sleep. Let all the boys drain and let them go tingling before you take them down

lipstickwoman · 24/12/2022 21:53

I might try magnesium..thyroid was fine a year or so ago

I'm currently walking around the cold kitchen floor on top toes cos it feels a bit helpful

Dear god. Middle age is no fun 😩

Magnesium spray helps

Spenn · 24/12/2022 21:59

Bar of soap under your sheet - weird but works here

Titsywoo · 24/12/2022 22:01

Magnesium glycinate and a weighted blanket. Obviously won't help tonight!

ThisTimeNext · 24/12/2022 22:03

I suffer too - when I'm tired. I pace about or go for a walk and then try to sleep but it's miserable.

GhostBridezilla · 24/12/2022 22:04

I find the only thing that works is to lay on my stomach on the floor and kick my legs up behind me rapidly. I look bonkers but it really helps to stretch them out. Like going for a run without the running!

BMrs · 24/12/2022 22:06

Have you tested your iron (ferritin) levels? Tested mine as was losing a lot of hair, turned out was pretty low (42 and should be 150), started taking 210mg iron (ferrous fumerate) plus vit c to help absorb the iron and my restless legs all but stopped overnight

Rainsdropskeepfalling · 24/12/2022 22:09

DH has been taking spa tone for the last decade and no caffeine - has massively improved things. He can now sit in a car and not have to be the driver....

greenhousegal · 24/12/2022 22:15

Can I ask to describe the symptoms of restless legs as you experience it?

Just wondered as I get severe leg cramp and I literally roar out loud with the pain of it. But it is probably nothing like restless legs.

I sympathise anyway.

lipstickwoman · 24/12/2022 22:22

@greenhousegal it's just an overwhelming urge to move your legs. They sort of tingle and you can't keep still.. mine are up the wall while I'm lying on the sofa, waving about, just anyway to move. Almost as if you need them to start hurting because that would be better than the twitching and moving.

Magnesium spray. It’s a life saver.

daffodilandtulip · 24/12/2022 22:24

Stretching the muscles

Notwashingup · 24/12/2022 22:24

Single duvet/extra blankets across shins and feet. I was going to buy a weighted blanket but the duvet helps most of the time.

Unthinkable8 · 24/12/2022 22:26

OP have a bath with Magnesium Sulphate crystals, you can get them in chemists or regular supermarkets in the bath aisle. Chuck a load in the bath whilst the water is running & get in. If your legs ache/smart whilst you're in the bath it definitely shows magnesium deficiency. You can absorb it through the skin though. When your magnesium levels are ok, you can't feel anything in this type of bath so it's a good way of finding out. Restless legs are the one thing you can cure easily. I used to suffer terribly.

America12 · 24/12/2022 22:27

Paracetamol, don't know why it works and it shouldn't but it does for me.

wagnbobble · 24/12/2022 22:28

Bizarre but I slather on Deep Heat , sends mixed message to brain and seems to allow me to sleep
