Paracetamol and get as cold as you can. I usually walk around on the cold kitchen floor in bare feet for a few mins.

Really interested to hear about the legs up against the wall advice, I used to do that as a kid when i ciuodnt get to sleep. Unfortunately magnesium supplements work for me but give me terrible nightmares.

sneezums · 24/12/2022 22:34

I sleep the other end of the bed so I can press my feet on to the wall/bed head to relieve it or if not so bad, I just flex my feet to stretch the calf muscles

TroysMammy · 24/12/2022 22:35

Do you have any anti histamines? I suffer from restless legs and am prescribed pramipexole. I take magnesium supplements which help. Sometimes they are so bad I take an anti histamine to knock me out, I feel a bit shit in the morning but they say they can cause restless legs though.

A relative is a doctor and was really suffering with this. They tried a bunch of things and ultimately bought a vibrating massager for tired muscles. Something about tricking the nerve signals?

They had read all of the research they could find - said it was the only thing that helped them.

Acinonyx2 · 24/12/2022 22:40

I take magnesium tablets daily and have magnesium spray - it definitely helps.

imaditto · 24/12/2022 22:42

I've got a medication called pregabalin which really helps settle the nerves in my legs. Not sure that's the reason for it but it sure helps

TheGirlInTheGreenDress · 24/12/2022 22:45

For an immediate solution: I’ve found stretching my thigh muscles for about 30 seconds. I get DP to push my leg so its a serious stretch (to the point of pain!).

StickofVeg · 24/12/2022 22:46

Have you tried quinine? It's in tonic water - my mum used to say it helped her.

museumum · 24/12/2022 22:47

Flight socks / compression tights for instant relief. Magnesium more medium term. I get them terribly when I exercise which is annoying as exercise is supposed to be good for you!

Was just going to suggest tonic water - my mother swore by it to help her restless legs.

GreyCarpet · 24/12/2022 22:49

I take magnesium malate. A high dosage but that works well.

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 24/12/2022 22:51

DF used to drink tonic water - think it’s the quinine that helps?

SnowyGiveAway · 24/12/2022 22:52

Oh god it's the worst! Do men get it too? Legs up the wall, a thigh massage, downward facing dog, make a stack of hardback books and put your toes on the top, heels to the ground, lift your legs in the air and draw the alphabet in cursive with your feet.

I think I need to try magnesium supplements

Dartmoorcheffy · 24/12/2022 22:54

I've got a gravity blanket. It is fantastic for restless legs.

lipstickwoman · 24/12/2022 22:57

Well magnesium supplements seem to be highly recommended. I'll try some, thank you

It's really the worst. I find doing squats helps me to some extent, and doing the stretch known as pigeon pose. Using a massage gun on bum and all down the legs also helps. Letting legs get cold.

Agree having enough iron also important.

How old are you OP? Are you taking HRT?

flower1677 · 24/12/2022 23:22

Another for paracetamol or codeine if you have it

santaismyname · 24/12/2022 23:58
  1. Don't let your legs get too warm in the evening. Use ice pack on legs before bed in warmer months. In cold months, don't let your bed get too warm and walk barefoot in kitchen
  1. I wear compression stockings for an hour before bed or earlier in day

3 I steer clear of too much oxalates in food so no spinach or beetroot

  1. Lots of leg massage before sleeping if they feel like they are going to misbehave at night

That's what works for me
