Be honest, what do your older kids/teens eat for breakfast?

Mine are 12/14. My 12 year old eats a pain au chocolat for breakfast every day. Occasionally I might persuade her to have a yoghurt with it. 14 year old often skips breakfast on school days much to my dismay...but otherwise he has cereal/pancakes. I'm aware these aren't the best breakfasts ever! What do your older DC eat?

12yo DD - sausage sandwich or sausage roll weekends/holidays (more like lunch as they all sleep in). Bread/toast and butter on school days, occasionally with chocolate spread.
16yo DS - beans on toast with grated cheese, pretty much every day. Again, as a lunch if it's not a school day. Occasionally cheese on toast.
15yo DS - peanut butter on toast before school, weekends/holidays he has anything from soup, noodles, ready meal as tends to skip breakfast in favour of sleep or xbox.

Nothing
Fried eggs
Pizza
Pasta
Cereal bars
Percy pigs
Bacon sandwich

TwoPointFourCatsAndDogs · 23/12/2022 21:35

Weetabix, porridge, buttery toast dipped in hot chocolate, crumpets, bagel French toast with honey & ketchup 🤢, bacon sandwich, sausage sandwich, fried egg on bread (break the egg yolk in the pan & put a slice of bread on top, flip it over to fry the other side). Vitamins and a Vitamin C drink.

Dc1 nothing
Dc2 cranberry or orange juice

weekends dc1 still nothing (usually in bed until lunch)
dc2 porridge, pancakes, eggy bread or scrambled eggs on toast.

HappiCamper · 23/12/2022 21:39

Cereal, such as weetabix, and peanut butter on toast. At weekends we have something eggy, or porridge and fruit.

cannaethink · 23/12/2022 22:11

DS has nothing on school days because he needs to leave the house at 8am but only gets up at 8.10 🙄I can see from his canteen card account that he buys a bagel at break time though.

Thatboymum · 23/12/2022 22:28

Apple juice a chocolate crepe and a pan au chocolate if we have none of those it’s a bowl of lucky charms cereal

Bugbeau · 23/12/2022 22:37

I have an 11 year old. He eats a variety of different things…mainly weetabix or Rice Krispies, toast & jam or cinnamon & raisin bagel thins. On the weekend he’ll have a croissant or pain au chocolat but I don’t buy them during the week.

OnTheRunWithMannyMontana · 23/12/2022 22:41

Depends on the weather. 13yo likes crumpets with cheese usually or if it's colder weather she will have instant porridge with a drizzle of honey. If she's in a rush it's a quick slice of toast to eat in the car.

OnTheRunWithMannyMontana · 23/12/2022 22:43

Oh yes and cheesy scrambled eggs, eggy bread or omelette on a weekend. And she makes the same for me too the little sweetie!

DuplicateUserName · 23/12/2022 22:44

None of mine ate breakfast past primary school.

DS 2 might occasionally have had a banana on the way but not often.

anotherusernamethiswerk · 23/12/2022 22:46

DS17 will make a BLT in the week before college or maybe cereal/porridge if can't be bothered with 'cooking', weekends are pancakes.

DD10 will have cereal or yogurt and granola with fruit. Maybe toast and peanut butter for a change.

DD14 cannot eat breakfast. 🙄

Franticbutterfly · 23/12/2022 22:47

DD3 eats nothing as she can't get up. DD2 eats anything and everything, but it's mostly carbs as cereal/toast/crumpets are quick.

RoseMartha · 23/12/2022 22:55

15 yr old (sn) shop bought pancakes, will only eat one make only, if there is none in stock as she will have a meltdown.

14 yr old old mostly nothing.

Logicalreasoning · 23/12/2022 23:00

DS14 has to eat breakfast otherwise it breaks his routine, he has autism and routine is every thing
he will have (in no particular order of days, depends on what we have in etc)
chocolate Chip brioche with nutella
pan au choc
coco pops
cheese, ham & pepperoni toasties
bacon sandwich
bacon and egg sandwich
omelette
sometimes the rustlers breakfast muffins...
food isn’t a problem for him thankfully... it makes my life a bit easier with the handling of his autism.

chocolateoranges33 · 23/12/2022 23:05

Generally for DC17 & DC16 nothing at all. When not at college or at work, neither will wake up before midday either. Occasionally will have pain au chocolate, chocolate pancake etc.

I don't eat breakfast either (&never have) so I'm not fussed. DH on the other hand needs to eat a filling breakfast within about 30 minutes of waking up! I can't think of anything worse- I generally can stomach eating something about 4 hours after I've woken up.

Jmaho · 23/12/2022 23:09

DD13 a pain au chocolate but only if they are from Tesco. If we don't have any he refuses to eat but he is a miserable shit especially in the mornings!
DD11 a scotch pancake followed by white bread toast, one slice. Same pretty much every day!
They are really stuck in their ways when it comes to food

Same. I rarely eat breakfast. Just never feel like food until around 11. My husband eats within 30 mins of waking up otherwise he's cranky!

Notsa · 23/12/2022 23:12

Neither my 19 or 17 year old eat breakfast although they used to no problems until they were about 13. My 9 year old has toast or croissants - he has never been into cereal.

Cereal (Weetabix, Shreddies, Shredded wheat, porridge oats etc, ie not chocolate or fun cereal) and a full glass of water, milk or squash to drink. Every day.

We're no stranger to sugar and junk on (regular) occasion, but a non sugary, non chocolatey type breakfast is non-negotionable. There's plenty of clamour for Nutella etc the rest of the time, like in the evenings. But not breakfast. They don't even think to ask.

Tadpoll · 23/12/2022 23:19

DD orange juice in a carton and kinder bueno chocolate bar. Not great but better than nothing.

Appreciate this might not get through to the teens, but you need to understand that this amount of sugar on an empty stomach is not better than nothing.

Nothing would be much better.

ElfDragon · 23/12/2022 23:20

One has a yoghurt and a satsuma

Another has a piece of toast with peanut butter

pre teen has half a bagel thin, and then sometimes a second breakfast at breakfast club - he is at breakfast club every day, but only eats the bits he fancies, eg pain au chocolat or cocoa pops.

lorn195 · 23/12/2022 23:24

DS2 has usually on a school morning 1or 2 pain au Chocolat or brioche. If it's a quick trip to the coop before school it usually is a cheese twist x2 or a panini (seeded).

Interestingly this holiday he's has asked for white bread (usually we buy seeded) as it toasts better, spread with the Nutella.
