Be honest, what do your older kids/teens eat for breakfast?

Mine are 12/14. My 12 year old eats a pain au chocolat for breakfast every day. Occasionally I might persuade her to have a yoghurt with it. 14 year old often skips breakfast on school days much to my dismay...but otherwise he has cereal/pancakes. I'm aware these aren't the best breakfasts ever! What do your older DC eat?

My 13 yo has ham rolls and a piece of fruit

DarkKarmaIlama · 23/12/2022 16:01

They have nothing other than a glass of milk which I force upon them. Gave up the breakfast battle years ago.

Jinglecrunch · 23/12/2022 16:05

Something chocolate-y or nothing
Occasionally a cup of tea, eggs and bacon on the weekend

17 year old: nothing
19 year old: protein shake or oatmeal with protein powder or eggs on a protein bagel

megletthesecond · 23/12/2022 16:16

DS 3 × weetabix, fresh orange juice. Plus either yakult /croissant / choc spread on toast.

DD orange juice in a carton and kinder bueno chocolate bar. Not great but better than nothing.

Ramekin · 23/12/2022 16:17

15 yo: Cereal/muesli/granola eaten dry, sometimes some dried fruit and nuts, followed by a crumpet with peanut butter or Nutella. Tea, peppermint tea or red bush, and a glass of water to drink.

12yo: yoghurt or rice pudding, followed by toast or bagel with jam or nutella. Tinned fruit with the yoghurt sometimes. Occasionally porridge with milk and honey, but only if I make it, usually I leave for work before they are up. Juice to drink.

I’m happy for them to choose whatever they want to eat at breakfast time.

itsgettingweird · 23/12/2022 16:56

Weetabix before he swims

More cereal, pan au chocolat, cereal bar or flapjack or something equally as quick and easy afterwards!

Exhausteddog · 23/12/2022 17:02

DS (13) eats a variety of breakfasts (porridge, toast, shreddies with milk, or bacon with baked beans)
DD (16) eats either about 10 special K flakes with milk, or a slice of toast. At the weekend/holidays she rarely eats breakfast.

Hoppinggreen · 23/12/2022 17:04

They don’t

Chateaudiaries · 23/12/2022 17:04

Mostly toast or porridge. Sometimes a fried egg.

At the weekend they have croissants or pancakes and smoothies/fruit

Hellocatshome · 23/12/2022 17:04

12yo DS 2 eggs either boiled or scrambled, 1 slice of toast and a glass of milk. He is a swimmer so this is part of his meal plan.

15yo multiple bowls of cereal and a coffee, even if his breakfast time happens to be at lunchtime on a weekend he still has this first then has lunch.

ladywithnomanors · 23/12/2022 17:07

Ds (17) pain au chocolat on a school day as he never has time to sit down and eat.
Dd (14) porridge.......every single day
Dd (12) all sorts of things... fruit, yoghurt, bacon , eggs, avocado on toast

HippyChickMama · 23/12/2022 17:11

15 year old ds: weekdays during term time, porridge or Rice Krispies, Saturdays and school holidays, often nothing and will snack on fruit mid morning. On Sundays we all usually have a later breakfast of a bacon or sausage sandwich or pastries or when I can be bothered a full cooked breakfast. We don't usually eat lunch on a Sunday and just have a late breakfast and a then a roast dinner at around 6pm and he'll often have fruit and biscuits in between

golfwidow88 · 23/12/2022 17:26

Mine is 11- usually weetabix with milk or toast/crumpets.

thaegumathteth · 23/12/2022 17:29

16 year old has a massive bowl of porridge every single morning without fail.

12 year old has brioche / crumpet / crunchy nut cornflakes or granola and yogurt

courgettigreensadwater · 23/12/2022 17:53

Nothing, pain au chocolates or crumpets on a school day. Weekends copious amounts of cereal.

RobotRumpus · 23/12/2022 17:59

DD14 eats porridge or has a banana with a glass of milk before school, nothing at weekends.
DD18 has homemade muesli she makes herself.

Delatron · 23/12/2022 18:04

I‘m also in the ‘something is better than nothing camp’. Especially for active kids - If they have PE first thing for example.

DS14 - bowl of cereal/porridge pot/toast with jam and fruit.
DD12 - pancakes, fruit and maple syrup/waffles/ cereal/ toast honey and banana.

I used to be very precious about what they had for breakfast- I’d call cereals ‘crap in a box’ and not buy them. I’d insist they had porridge every day.

I’m far more relaxed now with 2 slim, active boys who just need to eat. I’m happy with a bowl of rice crispies!

troppibambini6 · 23/12/2022 18:05

Dd17 avocado and egg on sourdough with an iced oat milk latte.
Dd2 makes a smoothie or has homemade granola with yogurt and fruit.

I have no idea where their twattery comes form but it's certainly not me!

NOACF · 23/12/2022 18:15

Dc15 - cornflakes or toast with butter and/or jam. Nothing exciting!

Smallorangecat · 23/12/2022 18:19

Usually nothing. She doesn’t have time before school and on weekends/ holidays doesn’t get up until nearly lunchtime. Occasionally she will take a brioche roll to eat on the way to school.

flatpack1 · 23/12/2022 19:24

NotToBeOrToBe · 23/12/2022 15:14

Nowt. Past about 11 years old neither have eaten breakfast.

Same here. All in their 30s now and still nowt.

3sthemagicnumber · 23/12/2022 19:45

DD1 16 brown toast and butter, fruit if I've got any berries in. Weekends will do avo or tomato toast or pancakes etc

DS 14, varies massively, today he had a bowl of cheerios, a banana, 3 slices of melon and a ham sandwich. Weekdays normally a bagel or cereal, sometimes yoghurt, oats and honey. Scrambled eggs at the weekend.

DD2 14. Nothing. Won't eat before school and gets up at lunchtime at the weekend.

HeatwaveToNightshade · 23/12/2022 19:55

DS14 - bowl of cereal (Fruit and Fibre, Apricot Wheats, Cheerios, granola) on a school day. Scrambled eggs with or without bacon, or jam on toast at weekends. He has announced recently though, that he doesn't like cereal anymore. I have made a few suggestions, like bagels, croissants, crumpets etc, but he doesn't like the sound of them, so keeps snaffling the cereal out of habit😅

DS10 swings between filling breakfasts such as muesli with yoghurt or porridge, and Rice Krispies or cornflakes.

DeliberatelyObtuse · 23/12/2022 21:15

Ds1 (18) makes himself a protein shake

Ds2 (17) has 4 pieces of toast and about a pint of tea
