As the title says.... horrendous blocked nose/ sinuses - Sudafed tablets pretty useless .. don't want to use nasal spray really as issues in the past where nose ends up addicted to this and makes it worse in the end!
Anyone have any helpful remedies please? Suffering 🤒

Try a downward facing dog, the yoga pose, and move to child’s pose and then back up to the down dog. Hold for at least 30 seconds in each. Repeat several times. Works for me , but can be embarrassing when you discover it works in an actual yoga class. Need lots of tissues 😀

Sinutab is much better than Sudafed. It's behind the counter.

@Jellycats4life if you overuse certain nasal sprays your nose can become dependent on them and blood vessels in your nose swell up even more making you even more congested. This doesn't apply to steroid nasal sprays though

Guiafanicine cough medicine. It thins the mucous and helps it drain from the sinuses.

Twinklenoseblows · 19/12/2022 19:58

I love my neti pot. Takes a bit of trial and error to get it right but it is so effective and oddly satisfying. Works a treat.

Sinus rinse/ neti pot. Helps quite a bit.

Yes! I do this, too! 👏🤣

Another vote for Neti pot.

Vicks or olbas oil on your pillowcase when you go to bed. The fumes will clear your tubes while you sleep.

cushioncovers · 19/12/2022 21:35

Sudafed nasal spray. It reduces the inflammation in the nasal passages which is what causes the blocked nose feeling. Brilliant stuff. Or otrivine nasal drops. They have the same ingredient in and works just as well.

TheRealKatnissEverdeen · 19/12/2022 21:40

I'm posting here now so I remember to come back with a recommendation. When I was off to have a covid test and was advised against using a nasal spray I got something called Breath Easy from a natural remedy shop.
I wasn't hopeful but it was absolutely brilliant and kept me clear for so long without needing nasal spray. I use them religiously.

I'll try and find a pic. I've searched for it online but to no avail. There are other products with the same name but they are not the same. I'll search and post again if I locate it.

Weirdly I find that having the ceiling fan on, even in that really cold weather, helps to keep my nose free from blockage while I sleep.

2021mumma · 19/12/2022 22:16

Neilmed- was brilliant for me and recommended by doctor - so fulfilling seeing it all clear out!

primeoflife · 19/12/2022 22:20

Methyl crystals which you put in water (just don't ask for crystal meth like I did the first time I bought some 🤦🏼‍♀️)

DomesticShortHair · 19/12/2022 22:20

I’ve previously found CS gas to be a vey effective nasal unblocker.

You may need to carry out some kind of public order offence/resistIng arrest, in order to access the benefits though.

Squirrelsnut · 19/12/2022 22:27

YouTube has loads of videos for sinus draining massages. You need to do them for a few minutes but they work.

MardyMincepie · 19/12/2022 22:33

To steam my face I put boiling water on a tea towel in a bowl, just enough to make it wet and not have loads sloshing about in the bowl, it doesn’t last long but was helpful. I felt so I’ll I was worried I would spill it on me. Saline nasal rinse either a squirt thing you buy pr you can buy kits or as a last resort you can make your own and snort. Beware that you need to keep your mouth open. Look on your tube.

MardyMincepie · 19/12/2022 22:33

Wasabi is good as well if you can tolerate eating some.

GabrielAgreste · 19/12/2022 22:36

Google “sinus self massage” there are loads of tutorials for pressing on the right bits of your face to release the congestion. I pass this info on to everyone I know who is struggling and people think I’m some sort of white witch 😁

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 19/12/2022 22:37

You need a nasal rinse Nettie pot. It's the only thing I use now. Soooo good

Carlycat · 19/12/2022 22:38

Menthol crystals. Available from pharmacies. Very strong so only a few crystals needed in a steam bath

FirstTimeMaybes · 19/12/2022 22:39

I have a nasal rinse bottle from Japan. Little salt sachets for the water you put in it.

Makes a huge difference to congestion but have had a couple of really serious blocked nose days where the water won't go through as my sinuses are too swollen.
