I applied for pip in October and received a text from dwp saying we've recieved the written report of your pip assessment. We will write to you once we have made a decision. As a guide you should hear from us in 8 weeks.
I didn't have an assessment, does this mean I don't need one and does it mean il likely be awarded pip.

They may be referring to some paperwork from your gp or specialist. I would prepare for a home visit. I had to have one even though i have MS which is incurable and progressive, i was bloody annoyed! They only gave me the lowest level of PIP too.

OldTinHat · 18/12/2022 13:15

I applied in September last year, had a telephone assessment early March this year and was awarded in April.

It does take ages and I would expect you to have an assessment.

x2boys · 18/12/2022 13:18

My understanding with Pip is that sometimes the decision makers will make a decision on the application form ( and evidence provided) alone without needing ,to physically see and assess the person ,usually when there is very clear evidence of disability ,anecdotally from the people I know who have had a paper based assessment, the decisions have been positive.

MadameMackenzie · 18/12/2022 13:22

If it's your first application for PIP then I would expect an assessment. Sometimes they don't, sometimes it's over the phone but usually there's an assessment. There's a huge backlog so I'd expect an assessment around March/April

Ty for your reply this is how I understood the txt message. I sent in a lot of evidence from my multiple different specialists covering my physical and mental health problems and I'm aware that they have contacted at least some of these for extra information and as the message says we will be in contact with a decision within 8 weeks

Then again, my first application for DLA (before PIP began) was decided based on my application alone. The decision maker did call me though to tell me I'd been awarded. This was back in 2013 however and with PIP they are a lot more strict in my experience. Either way, I doubt you'll have an answer either way before March/April so try to put it in the back of your mind if you can

In that case then I expect your next contact from them will be a date for an assessment Flowers

Even though they said in the message they will write to me within 8 weeks with a decision. Is this a standard msg everyone gets.

I had a paper assessment the first time I applied and the money was in my account before I received their letter.

It does sound like they have undertaken an assessment 'on the papers', but who honestly knows with the DWP.

I know they are sitting on a mountainous backlog of claims and reviews, and so trying to do as much 'on the papers' as possible where the claimant has been able to send in good quality evidence for their condition(s) and their effects on their daily living and mobility.

It usually means the decision on whether to award you PIP or not is done 'on the papers', i.e. on the basis of the paperwork that you have provided to the DWP.

Terrig87 · 09/02/2023 13:56

@AutumnCrow thankyou first time applying and thought have had no assessment and just received the text message this morning finger crossed
