In a car with my dad for over four hours yesterday and today he is positive for covid

Ugh I think this means it's likely I will get covid over Xmas which will be super fun with a 1yr old and 3yr old :(

I feel sorry for dad and mum as they were due to host a party today for 25 folk which is obviously cancelled now but they had all food and drink bought.
I'm also worried now about my 87yr old gran who was in the car with us.
But at least they were all boostered recently. It's just me that was boostered a year ago.
And if I have it, it's likely my kids will have it so I'll need to keep them off nursery and so now there's no children time to build their presents.
Argh what a mess.

I would certainly be more worried about your 87 year old gran!

You'll probably just get the sniffles. If that.

DuplicateUserName · 18/12/2022 10:53

Fingers crossed you won't even get it.

I've had it twice and my DH has never had it, despite the fact we share a bed!

Skinnermarink · 18/12/2022 10:53

I feel like I’ve been transported back to 2020. You might get it mildly. Your kids might not be affected at all. You might not even get it! I shared a hotel room with my covid positive mum and didn’t get it.

Anecdotally me and my Dad (80) currently have covid. He had his booster and has had a couple of bad days but I've been in bed for days and am having every bloody symptom. We tested negative for the first five days so assume you've got it, don't rely on the test.

Tinselpipes · 18/12/2022 11:00

It's not a given you'll catch it. DH and DD had it separately and I didn't catch it either time...the second time DD had it I did catch it, but DH didn't.

ApolloandDaphne · 18/12/2022 11:02

My DH got it when we were on holiday and I was in the car with him constantly. I also had to share the bed as we had only one. I didn't catch it.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 18/12/2022 11:02

I did catch it when my husband had it and he was sleeping in a different room whilst I was cosleeping with the baby.
We all got it in succession and we had it fairly bad for two weeks.

But yes fingers crossed we dont get it or if we do, that it's mild

I'd be far more worried about my gran than myself. You'll be fine.

ErinAndTonic · 18/12/2022 11:03

Well if you've already had it your second time will be a piece of piss.

My first was grim, 2 weeks off, second time was only a few days testing positive and far far milder.

Oh good to know!

Yea I am worried for my gran!!

If your gran was recently boosted, she might well be fine, and there's no guarantee you'll even be symptomatic. Actually, do you test regularly? Because if you don't, you could've had it last week and not even known.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 18/12/2022 11:07

I actually randomly tested a few days ago and was negative.

OP posts:
ErinAndTonic · 18/12/2022 11:25

Fingers crossed it'll escape you ☺️ that's the issue now though, we could be coming into contact with the virus at any point.. but I don't hear or anyone getting it to the same level, at least of the people I know.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 18/12/2022 11:32

Yes that's right.

It would be a shame if my gran got it though as she is intending to visit my grandad in a care home on Xmas and likely before Xmas day too.
Not good!

Yeah ita likely, just to add I tested positive yesterday and so far this isn't mild at.l feel schockingly awful so so so much worse than the 1st time around that I caught it

healthadvice123 · 21/12/2022 16:11

Im in similar position been working with someone last 3 days and today they tested positive for covid , so looking like I may now have it bang on xmas
Was supposed to be going to family for 3 days so I have no food or anything much in for xmas dinner although do have a click and collect for a few last minute presents and drink for 23 rd , which I guess I now can't collect if I end up positive? Hopefully my dh can go and get it as if i test positive tomorrow or friday it should mean he is clear for now . Such crap timing as also have a week and a half holiday from work.
Had covid twice first time barely any symptoms , 2nd time pretty rough, also have booster booked for early jan so will have to cancel that as well
Was supposed to be going out with friends on friday as well, and plans for 27th .
Now just playing a waiting game reallh

So sorry I seem to have missed your comment.
How are you feeling now?

I spent 2 hours in the car with my step-son a couple of years ago & he tested positive an hour later - I didn't catch it

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 21/12/2022 16:28

@healthadvice123 I think you can say for them to put it straight into your boot. But if you can just get DH to go.

You may test negative by 27th so don't cancel that just yet!
It's shit though but I hear of a lot more people o know getting it now.
I'm still testing negative but it could take up to 14 days.

If you have covid you could get a Dr note to give your employer and then you would be ok sick leave rather than annual leave, then you'd get those days to use next year.

Government advise is not to test children

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 21/12/2022 16:43

Who said anything about testing children?

OP posts:
ZeViteVitchofCwismas · 21/12/2022 17:56

Op you may not get it.
We've never passed it onto each other.

I know you did before but...also your DC may ok with it.
I've got it also and it's ok so far , dizzy...

Doyouthinktheyknow · 21/12/2022 18:03

You may well not get it. I shared a care with ds2 to get a pcr done, back in the day and didn’t get it. I even did his test because I wanted it done properly🤣

When I finally got it some 6 months later, dh didn’t and we still slept in the same bed.

I hope you and your gran stay negative.

littlemissalwaystired · 21/12/2022 18:13

My partner has had Covid recently and I didn't get it at all. None of my family have ever caught it from each other at the same time, despite all having it at various times. Can't predict these things🤷🏼‍♀️ fingers crossed no one else gets it and I hope your dad doesn't feel unwell.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 21/12/2022 18:24

Thanks all!

My dad says he feels weak and sort of head cold-y but not too bad.
Gran is still negative but she didn't look great when I saw her yesterday. But fingers crossed
