If you had/have this awful virus, have you had your flu jab this year?

I'm NEVER Ill, but have got this awful (COVID -ve) virus that seems to be doing the rounds.

This year is the first time in years I haven't got round to having a flu jab (ironically, I was planning to get it tomorrow!)

In a not particularly scientific experiment, I was wondering if there's a correlation.

No, we were wondering if it might be flu. But then I tested positive for COVID on day 4...

TheTempest · 16/12/2022 10:55

Yes I’ve had both flu and Covid jabs. Turns out mine was strep A though and 4 days of antibiotics so far and I’m feeling a lot better. So many people I know are ill at the moment!

PositiveLife · 16/12/2022 10:56

No, I'm offered one free through work but the appointments were all December and I got the awful thing late November and haven't been fully well since.

I’ve had my flu jab and 4th covid vaccine. My husband and toddler were ill recently but I didn’t catch it and I am normally the first to go down and the longest to get better. Of course it could just be luck but my toddler and husband did spend 3 nights breathing into my face. I am giving credit to the vaccines.

Pixiedust1234 · 16/12/2022 11:07

I had the flu jab. Then 3 weeks later I got covid, then had five days of good health (and negative tests) then BAM!!! got knocked to hell with that virus. It really was horrible.

BeyondTheLetterOfTheLawTheLetter · 16/12/2022 11:08

I had my flu jab around four weeks ago, and my last covid jab in september. I'm also immunosuppressed.

I currently have what I would fairly confidently call the 'flu. It's pretty shit, but I don't feel quite at deaths door - which I imagine I may have without the jab.

Bluesycamore · 16/12/2022 11:10

Yes had flu jab. Still absolutely floored with a virus of some kind, tested negative for covid. There are lots of people down with RSV here

abbs1 · 16/12/2022 11:13

My husband had his flu jab in Oct and was hit with this nasty virus. He was in bed for 11 days straight. Never seen him that unwell. He tested negative for covid but even now his sense of smell and taste is poor.

Racingadmin · 16/12/2022 11:13

Had my flu jab

Testing negative for covid but feeling dreadful since Monday . No flu type aches but completely lost taste and smell which makes me suspect covid

Also Dh had a covid booster 8 weeks ago and doesn't seem to have caught this despite sharing a bed with a spluttering , leaking mess of a wife

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 16/12/2022 11:15

To be honest, if you haven't had your flu jab by now, there isn't much point. It takes about 3 weeks to become effective, and by that point, we'll almost be out of flu season.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 16/12/2022 11:20

Flu jab - yes.
Covid booster - no; have been ill since mid-October with the virus so missed my appointment and now have Covid….But the flu jab made no difference to this virus - have never been unwell for as long as I have recently. Nearly two calendar months of poor health without respite now.

Unbridezilla · 16/12/2022 11:21

Correlation is not causation...

Not true. A doctor was on the radio this morning saying peak flu season was typically January and February, so there is still time if anyone feels they ought to have a jab

MistletoeMouse · 16/12/2022 11:29

Yes had flu jab and 4th covid jab.

Mines Covid. I'm on day 10 now and still feel like shit / still testing positive.

WillYouDoTheFandango · 16/12/2022 12:20

I caught Covid and had to rearrange my flu jab. Had it two weeks later, then had a sort of relapse and couldn’t clear the Covid symptoms. Was ill for around 4 more weeks and then caught the awful virus and was written off for a further month.

I would definitely recommend waiting longer after testing positive for Covid before getting a flu jab than I did.

Abcdefu · 16/12/2022 12:27

I've got the virus, temperature, cough sore throat etc. Have 3 of the covid jabs, didn't get my flu jag for the first time - wish I had. Feel floored but only on day 3. Anyone any tips to get rid of it?? I sound like I have croup except I'm a 36 year old adult

Kalasbyxor · 16/12/2022 12:37

Not had flu jab or most recent vaccine.
Been I'll for 10 days and having the slowest recovery I can remember. Slightest effort and I'm floored again. Not sure what it is: haven't tested for Covid because it started off so consistent with flu, with a high temp, chills and aches, but is now settled on my chest and won't budge.

TheProblemIsMe · 16/12/2022 12:44

Dreadful advice @GreenFingersWouldBeHandy

Flu can be around until March. Absolutely worth getting, it is putting healthy people in hospital.

Rainbows89 · 16/12/2022 12:53

I had the flu jab several weeks ago.

my daughter had the flu last week- she slept in my bed every night - I had one day where I felt unwell but that was it.

Yorkshiredolls · 16/12/2022 13:05

Ive got the shitty cold thing at the moment. Its not as bad as flu for me but worse than my normal colds which I usually bat off. I haven’t been ill for ages despite everyone around me getting ill frequently, Have a strong immune system and had both covid booster and flu jab about 4-5 weeks ago (Nurse) I tested for covid yesterday and was neg so who knows but I better be better by Sunday!

IndigoC · 16/12/2022 13:26

I read the current lateral flows are only 37% accurate at picking up the current covid variant, and it’s very much on the rise. But there’s also been a big spike in flu, type A. I think people have one or the other.

psychomath · 16/12/2022 13:42

I haven't had my flu vaccine and also haven't (yet) had the shitty cold/flu/covid/whatever it is.

Fedupofbeinginpain · 16/12/2022 13:46

I had my flu jab in November and I have what I would class as proper flu. I've never felt so ill in my life and have been in bed for nearly a week so far.

Every fibre of my body hurts, there is so much snot that I could fill an Olympic swimming pool and my cough is horrendous thats it's left me in agony.

I've done multiple covid tests but all negative. Thankfully I'm on antibiotics for my cough which is starting to help.

SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound · 16/12/2022 14:00

No, I meant to get it, but never actually did.

It’s the first year I haven’t, and never ever again am I missing it! I had Covid a few weeks ago and it was like a mild cold, this has completely wiped me out. I’m wondering if getting it straight after having Covid made it worse or if it would have been as bad anyway.

LolaAnn12 · 16/12/2022 16:36

I'm on week 4 of this virus and today I coughed so much I vomited.
