If you had/have this awful virus, have you had your flu jab this year?

I'm NEVER Ill, but have got this awful (COVID -ve) virus that seems to be doing the rounds.

This year is the first time in years I haven't got round to having a flu jab (ironically, I was planning to get it tomorrow!)

In a not particularly scientific experiment, I was wondering if there's a correlation.

My husband has a persistent hacking cough, is that part of this virus?

CeeceeBloomingdale · 16/12/2022 16:40

Me and my youngest have had it. I had my jab in late September (paid privately as I’m not eligible under the NHS). DD is not due for her vaccine until January in school as she was unvaxed.

Quveas · 16/12/2022 16:42

Didn't get Covid, did get the nasty virus thing, had every jab under the sun and boosters for boosters!

I am on day 4 of what I thought was a bad cold but now think it might be flu. Covid negative & nothing like actual Covid when I had it. Never had flu & always thought it was rare so never crossed my mind until I read a bit about the symptoms.

I had my flu vaccine at end of November along with Covid Booster. I can only assume I've managed to function with my kids because of this. I've been in bed as soon as husband home though

Symptoms: Headache, Fatigue, Fever, Cough (coughed up a little blood), intermittent runny nose, aches & pains all over

Does anyone know whether my husband could get the anti-viral meds if he starts getting symptoms? He needs to work so I'm terrified he'll get it & have to stay off

PingPongMerrilyWithPie · 17/12/2022 22:50

@DaddysGirl36 can't help with your question but last time I had what I thought was flu (stayed in bed, felt far too ill to drag myself to a doctor) it turned out to be a chest infection that needed antibiotics. The coughing up blood was what pushed me to see a doctor.

Mercy1968 · 17/12/2022 23:03

I ve had a horrible virus thing with horrendous cough cold and fever/headache.
Negative for covid, dragged myself to work.
Never have flu vaccine, have had both covid and flu and recovered naturally.
Will never have either vaccine again, covid one made me ill and flu one hospitalised my previously healthy father (now sadly passed away).

You do realise that there are multiple viruses in existence at the same time? I never understand why on mumsnet people ask if others have 'the virus' that's going around. It could be covid, strep, flu, colds and the many variants within each one.

DaddysGirl36 · 17/12/2022 23:39

Thanks. Symptoms are mainly headache & chills/sweats now but keeping an eye on cough & production & will ring GP Monday if I feel I need some advice

DaddysGirl36 · 17/12/2022 23:44

I never understand why people on mumsnet enter a thread they have no interest in just to be condescending & rude. You do realise you can just scroll by...

I'm just recovering from this hideous bug that turned into a chest infection. Had antibiotics which helped. I was coughing so hard I was vomiting then it was non stop vomiting for hours.
Had flu jab and covid booster. Hate to think how bad it could have got without those.

PaperMonster · 17/12/2022 23:55

I’ve had a variety of viruses since mid November. I just about start getting better when something else kicks in. But on the whole I’ve been able to crack on - think I’ve had two separate days off. Had my flu jab a while ago as am T2D. OH had eight weeks from Sept of fluorescent green snot and a sore head, recovered and then was hit by something else mid week and now can’t get out of bed. He’s been like this for the past three days. He hasn’t had a flu jab.

Lochjeda · 17/12/2022 23:55

Me and my ds are super ill I was shocked when the covid test was negative.. I have every thing on the flu symptoms list except a cough. I don't get the flu vaccine and my ds has just told me after filling in the forms to get the flu nasal spray he wasn't given it because he has asthma as they said he was to go to the docs for it when its always been given at school before with no issues.

Gingernaut · 18/12/2022 00:31

Got a 'coughing cold' that never tested positive for Covid and left me with with temporary continence issues (!) and have had my flu and second booster jabs.
