Luxury cottages - do any even exist in the north west

christmasprep · 16/12/2022 09:07

Looking at booking one as a Christmas gift for mum and dad. Ideally Chester but they seem none existent there, so casting net to Cheshire or the north west generally and not much coming up. Surely something must exist!

(Not wales!)

Agree. ; )

Chester not a typical cottage place anyway OP. Does it have to be a cottage?

lakequeen · 16/12/2022 09:11

I find it hard to believe there wouldn't be any in for example the Lake District; are you looking for a rural or town break?

Hoppinggreen · 16/12/2022 09:11

There are no luxury cottages or nice hotels north of Watford Gap
Everyone knows that

DanteThunderstone · 16/12/2022 09:13

I live in the north west but in a rudimentary structure made of goatskin while I wait for cottage technology to spread this far into the badlands.

Usee8789754 · 16/12/2022 09:13

Its better to keep them down south where it's safe surely.

ChuggingtonMum · 16/12/2022 09:13

These are lovely but out of my budget, I have family locally

Backwood hall on the Wirral is nice too although you have to book by email and they can be a bit flaky

😆

It is actually really hard to find self catering accommodation in the North West though!

NannyR · 16/12/2022 09:17

Does the Lake District count as North West? There are some gorgeous holiday cottages there.

Bluevelvetsofa · 16/12/2022 09:20

Probably depends on the websites you’re choosing.

I think Mr & Mrs Smith have top end self catering.

Wow. I live near there and had no idea these existed! Just lovely.

For this Christmas?

For this Christmas?

That would be folly, indeed.

Presumably the OP wants a booking for sometime next year which she can present to her parents this Christmas?

I can only read the thread title in the voice of Pauline from Mum

I just looked up a lovely place we stayed at in the Lake District at few years ago:

www.wheelwrights.com/holiday-cottages-apartments/luxury-little-langdale-holiday-cottage/

It was around £1000 a week at the time (over Easter). Now £5000. Absolutely crazy. There were storms and torrential rain the entire week we were there too (though I suppose that meant we made good use of the house).

MyTurkey · 16/12/2022 09:50

Will they be visiting us in Wakes week when we down tools at factory and go to Blackpool? It will be carnage. Please warn your parents.

You’re not wrong 🤣.

BamBamBilla · 16/12/2022 10:03

What's wrong with Wales?

ginghamstarfish · 16/12/2022 10:04

No, the North West is a howling wilderness full of troglodytes living in caves. Think you'd better stay in the South where it's all civilised. FFS - are you for real?

Elsanore · 16/12/2022 10:08

We disguise our region as a shithole to repel snobby southerners. Seems to be working.

christmasprep · 16/12/2022 10:49

Hang on- I live in the north west (wales, actually). Hence why not wales and I am struggling to find anything really lovely and luxe in Cheshire. There are hundreds in the Cotswolds, london etc. If anyone can point me in the right direction then great.

Those barns look lovely thanks but hoping for more of a really luxury cottage with stunning views, countryside, really top end! Willing to pay but cannot see anything!

What do you mean by luxury then? Presumably an indoor toilet, but a hot tub? Concierge? How many bedrooms? For what dates?

Stunning views? Cheshire?
I lived in Cheshire at top of one of the few sandstone hill, overlooking the the cheshire plain and far Pennines. It was nice but not stunning. Cheshire is pretty flat and the odd pokey hill.

around chester you’re looking at town houses- that’s what people come to cheshire for..chester visits for a city break. There’s not much market for
cottages with “stunning views” as you can go 30 mins further to north wales or 1 hour further to Dales, Vale of Eden, Lakes, Peak District.

Most people who visit cheshire for countryside, walks etc (sandstone trail) are campers, glampers or basic holiday cottages.

wirral is probably your best bet- but you add significantly to journey time to get there form M6 - you might just as well go to north wales or lakes etc in same time.
