Classic films which lived up to the hype?

I feel like watching some classic movies over the festive period. Which movies lived up to their reputation for you? I know it's subjective to an extent but I'd appreciate any suggestions.

I'm throwing in The Godfather and Casablanca. They're now two of my favourite ever movies.

TIA

Shawshank. Spectacularly good.

Yep, came on to say this! It's not Christmasy or happy though 😂

Baby Boom with diane keaton.
Admittedly I haven't seen it in years, so may have dated badly, but I use to love it.

Think I'll see if I can find it anywhere to stream.

The Women, (1939 version)
Mildred Pierce
The Bishops Wife (1947 version)

Love the bishops wife. Better than its a wonderful life, in my opinion. I also love harvey with james stewart. Miranda and blythe spirit. My favorite is a matter of life and death.

@Thisthatandtheotherones I absolutely love Waterloo Bridge! It’s never on tv, I’m constantly searching the tv and streaming services for it. Vivienne Leigh is heartbreaking in it.

What's Up Doc is a remake of Bringing up Baby. Both brilliant and hilarious.

Watched The Bisops Wife yesterday , (I always watch it the Saturday afternoon before Christmas) and I agree it is better than Its A Wonderful Life and a very underrated film. Cary Grant was fantastic in it.

@Twoscotcheggsandajarofmarmite I managed to get a DVD about 10 years ago, it is a beautiful film. I don't know why it's never on. Most people don't seem to have seen it,
