I've been reading the Rivers of London books recently and I love them and I'd love to see a TV adaptation of them (already I've cast Regé-Jean Page as Peter Grant). Also I would love to see Secret History by Donna Taart.

Anyone else have any ideas for book to TV.

Just finished reading The Ordinary Princess by MM Kaye with my DD and suprised this has never been adapted, just a 1980s Jackanory.

Stressybetty · 15/12/2022 15:24

Maybe a better less teen angst version of the twilight books 😂

The brothers lion heart by Astrid Lindgren

It has been done in 1978 but I think it could be done amazingly now. I also think it could be a huge hit.

I'd love to see the early Jilly Cooper's re-done by netflix with a four weddings/Notting Hill vibe.

Topseyt123 · 15/12/2022 15:29

For me:

Rivers of London by Ben Aaronovitch
Chronicles of St. Mary's by Jodi Taylor
The Invisible Library series by Genevieve Cogman
The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher
The Alex Verus series by Benedict Jacka.

Those are my favourites.

Delayed Rays of a Star by Amanda Lee Koe.

It would have everything - 1920s glamour, 20th century social issues, lesbian affairs, Nazis, and brilliant diverse parts for female actors playing some real icons.

Ineedtocleanmywoodenblinds · 15/12/2022 15:33

I remember reading once that HBO were thinking of remaking the Harry Potter books as a series which sounded amazing. This was ages ago so guess it's not happening.

Another thought is that I always think that the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith should be adapted. I know the first one was done, and I have watched it, but it seemed to be abandoned after that and I've no idea why. I think they are lovely.

The Early (pre war and Ww2) Chalet schools would be great for children's TV.

Apparently a nwe partnership took on Rivers of London earlier this year.

TheMildManneredMilitant · 15/12/2022 15:40

Yes!! That's made my year. I hope they do it justice.

It looks as though you have very similar taste to me - I’ve never heard of those last two series though, I’m going to give them a try!

Perdido Street Station by China Mielville

The Glorious Guinness girls series by Emily Hourican

countrypunk · 15/12/2022 15:56

Any/all Donna Tartt books. Eleanor Oliphant (I thought that was supposed to be happening? Although I bet the plan is to Americanise it 🤮). Cause Celeb by Helen Fielding (way better than her Bridget Jones stuff). My Year of Meats by Ruth Ozeki. And someone needs to do a new adaptation of The Crow Road by Iain Banks because it's a sublime book and the first adaptation didn't nearly do it justice.

Would also love to see Dark Places by Gillian Flynn on the big screen. Brilliant book.

countrypunk · 15/12/2022 16:01

Also!! Knowledge of Angels by Jill Paton Walsh. Did that for A Level English and it's always stayed with me. It would make a brilliant tv series.

Trolltrotters · 15/12/2022 16:02

Agree with @WeDontNeedToTalkAboutJamie the wide acre trilogy would be amazing!

FiddleFigs · 15/12/2022 16:30

Agree with @ChessieFL - I'd love to see the Cazalets redone.

claracluck1978 · 15/12/2022 16:45

Elly Griffiths archaeologist murder series featuring Dr Ruth Galloway (played, in my head by lovely Nicola Walker!)

And C J Samson's Shardlake series

I have so many actors cast in these as I read each novel I'm amazed at the BBC for not calling me and asking me to cast and direct them!!!

Ineedtocleanmywoodenblinds · 15/12/2022 16:50

Yes, I agree we'd all make amazing casting agents 😂

Magician by Raymond E Feist and his other books

Although tbh after seeing what was done to some of the other fantasy series, I’m not sure that is a good idea.

Maybe tv series of something like Philippa Ashley or some other chick lit sort of books.
