How much will people pay for Reindeer Food, do you reckon?

I’m in charge of selling reindeer food at the school Christmas fair this week. Could I check the market rate for little hessian bags of the stuff with red ribbons? In case it makes any difference, it’s an affluent area and the profits are for external charities, not for the school. Any info would be very gratefully received! I thought perhaps £2…?

Anything grape based I mean - sultanas,. currents etc.

No glitter involved in the RF itself - a very glittery/tinsel-y table and then oats and bird seed and cranberries inside the bags. The RSPCA recipe.

Excellent! Glitter is so harmful to wildlife. Good luck with the Christmas fair.

Yes, @NamelessNancy - very important point.

I don't think the toxicity of grapes and dried grapes (sultanas/raisins) to dogs is anywhere near well enough known.

It's really important not to scatter known toxic items anywhere where a dog might ingest them.

The toxicity is not related to dose - ingesting it at all (even one) can lead to fatalities in susceptible dogs. And no-one really was the worry of an emergency trip to OOH vet over Christmas for emetics, especially as the treatment might not even work.

😳 did you get to ride the reindeer home? That’s the only way I can imagine paying £5 for a little bag of oats.

It isn't usually about the little bag of oats though. It is a donation to charity essentially. I have never bought reindeer food that was not being sold for charity.

I paid £1 at our local Christmas Market but it was in a 'Chrismassy' paper envelope rather than a hessian bag.

Raisins (or grapes) are toxic to hedgehogs so dont sprinkle outside.

Cranberries are festive and ok (raw only, not dried), maybe let the school know for next year.

I didn't know that...but have a massive grapevine that grows over from my neighbours so they drop anyway... the blackbirds adore them so don't think they'd last long. Honestly, are hedgehogs really this dim?!

Yeah I get that - just in that case I’d rather it was clearly just them asking for a donation rather than selling something! But I do think it’s different in an affluent area which I didn’t notice initially. In my area something like a Christmas party/fair would be a stretch financially for lots of people, so they’d only pay money they could afford for something they thought was ‘worth it.’
