How much will people pay for Reindeer Food, do you reckon?

I’m in charge of selling reindeer food at the school Christmas fair this week. Could I check the market rate for little hessian bags of the stuff with red ribbons? In case it makes any difference, it’s an affluent area and the profits are for external charities, not for the school. Any info would be very gratefully received! I thought perhaps £2…?

No glitter involved in the RF itself - a very glittery/tinsel-y table and then oats and bird seed and cranberries inside the bags. The RSPCA recipe.

£2

ZenNudist · 13/12/2022 22:07

I avoid this shit like the plague.

Reindeer food? A carrot?

Thought they ate lichen?

picklemewalnuts · 13/12/2022 22:13

I use cake sprinkles as well as sugar and food colouring. Looks really pretty.

@JaniceBingALing it's a bag of glittery oats that sparkle in the moonlight. You scatter it to show the reindeer where to come.

NoMoneyForFancyStuff · 13/12/2022 22:14

We did 50p in the school Christmas fair. £1 for hot chocolate powder and marshmallows in a cone. So I think £1 is very expensive for oats.

Reindeer food? A carrot?

That's what I was thinking XD

AreOttersJustWetCats · 13/12/2022 22:17

Tbh, some lichen would be best.

TokenGinger · 13/12/2022 22:22

I just paid £3 for a reindeer food bag (the RSPCA recipe) and a hot chocolate cone for DS which seemed reasonable (£3 for both, not each). They're in sweetie cone bags, though.

parsniiips · 13/12/2022 22:23

I wouldn't pay more than 50p, it's a handful of oats and dried fruit.

A kg bag of porridge oats costs about a quid.

£3 is insane.

I would put minimum donation 50p to get a bag of reindeer door and hope some people donate more.

parsniiips · 13/12/2022 22:23

Bag of reindeer food *

TheYummyPatler · 13/12/2022 22:24

It was 50p a make-your-own bag at DS’s nursery last weekend.

no glitter in it though. Just oats and seeds.

littlefireseverywhere · 13/12/2022 22:25

Yes around £1.50-£2

Snugglemonkey · 13/12/2022 22:25

The most I have paid was £5. It was for a charity I support.

SkankingWombat · 13/12/2022 22:26

The going rate is £10 isn't it? 😂 (Going by the Castle Howard Santa experience thread)

napody · 13/12/2022 21:19

Oh definitely don't do glitter though. My sons school did oats and raisins for the birds.

Raisins (or grapes) are toxic to hedgehogs so dont sprinkle outside.

Cranberries are festive and ok (raw only, not dried), maybe let the school know for next year.

helpfulperson · 13/12/2022 22:36

i think it depends if the aim is to raise funds in which case two pounds is reasonable, or to provide some cheap and cheerful fun for children in a low income area in which case 50p is better. what does it cost to make,

Cas112 · 13/12/2022 23:28

£1

Frapped · 13/12/2022 23:32

I'd pay 50p but I think I'm tight going on previous responses. Hessian bag isn't a selling point for me. More stuff for the bin. I'd prefer little brown paper bags that I could recycle.

Octopusmittens · 13/12/2022 23:33

Littleguggi · 13/12/2022 21:16

Zero because you can make your own with porridge oats and glitter

Not glitter 😱

Kanaloa · 13/12/2022 23:35

I feel a bit tight but I definitely wouldn’t buy it for my kids. To buy a bag each for them it would cost me £8! That seems a lot to me, so I’d be telling them for £2 each you can get sweets, a snack, and drinks from the pound shop for watching a film tonight rather than wasting it on a little bag of oats.

Kanaloa · 13/12/2022 23:36

Snugglemonkey · 13/12/2022 22:25

😳 did you get to ride the reindeer home? That’s the only way I can imagine paying £5 for a little bag of oats.

ggbbnn1 · 13/12/2022 23:37

I'd go to £2 no problem. It really does make a difference that you're not using glitter ✨

Kanaloa · 13/12/2022 23:43

Just reread that it’s in an affluent area. Suppose that will make quite a difference to be fair - £2 isn’t a lot to some people!

NamelessNancy · 13/12/2022 23:48

I know this is a tangent but please, please, please avoid sprinkling raisins, grape etc anywhere dogs are likely to get them due to toxicity.
