Broken boiler, landlord not in a rush to fox it.

My boiler broke late Tuesday eve. I let my landlord know early Wednesday. Told him I wasn't in a mad panic as shower is electric and have a few oil fiilled radiators, he said he'd sort it.

Friday I message him to ask if there was any progress, and he replied to say the engineer hadn't got back to him yet.
My house is 8 degrees (am lucky I'm in balmy Cornwall) and whilst I wouldn't be able to have the heating on much, I'd like to have the bloody option!

If I haven't heard anything by Monday afternoon I'm going to find an engineer myself. Do you think that's ok?

three cheers for @Droven!

A reminder that there are decent human beings in this world 😁
Hope everyone gets things sorted x

I think I've fixed it!!!
Millions of kettles of water directly over the pipes outside and hitting the pipes with a rolling pin to break up the ice - I've put the boiler on and pressed the reset button for a second or two - boiler came back on and seems to be heating up and running ok at the moment (5 mins)
I'm going to keep melting the ice in the pipe until I can't hear it smashing about anymore.

@Droven you have been brilliant, thank you so so much for writing back so quickly, I was having a panic there!!
I hope everyone else gets their boilers sorted - I should imagine there have been plenty of breakdowns this week. Who would believe mumsnet could help with a boiler problem!! Smile

A simple Neanderthal boiler fixing trick seems to have done the job

Brilliant news! I’ll get back to cooking dinner! Happy to offer advice here on gas boiler breakdowns

Those outside condensate pipes are the work of the devil - I had one in my last house, it went down the wall at 45 degrees and was always freezing up. Oh the nights I stood there in the snow late at night pouring boiling water over it....

Eventually I had it rerouted inside (which was how it should have been fitted in the first place). I insisted that it wasn't outside when I moved and had a new boiler fitted!

@Droven hope you had a nice tea, sorry if I disturbed it.
I've also just realised how thick I actually am saying I couldn't boil pans of water on my gas hob as no boiler! The bloody cooker has its own supply 🤦🏻‍♀️ to be fair it was a high anxiety moment and I lost my marbles but that was particularly stupid even for me haaaa.
Thank you again x
