So here I am again, I have one more Job offer from Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, I would like to know that what is the best place to live near my office, me with my Husband and 2 kids. My budget is around £1300/month. A 2-to-3-bedroom apartment or House. Your suggestion requested.
Regards,
Mrs. Zaidi

You’re not going to get anything remotely near with that budget and the need for 2-3 bedrooms I’m afraid. How far are you willing to commute?

OhhhhhhhhBiscuits · 10/12/2022 08:06

Miles away from the hospital that's for sure! You won't get anything for 1300 near the hospital. You may get a 2 bed if you go out to zone 5 or 6, but even that is unlikely.

MolesOnPoles · 10/12/2022 08:09

I’d look at the transport links to the hospital, work out the max time you want to commute for, the look at the point on the map that brings you to. It won’t be central London or near the hospital, so think about other priorities - are schools/ community/ green space more important to you?

tigerbear · 10/12/2022 08:10

As both previous posters said, that is an extremely low budget for London. £1300 is often what people pay for a room in a flat share, or a studio.
Prices are insane in London right now, and flats are going for more than the advertised prices, as demand is so high.
Friend of mine was recently looking for a 2 bed flat, zone 3/4, and anywhere even semi decent was around £1800-2500.

broomers · 10/12/2022 08:13

Try Sutton maybe or somewhere out west like Hounslow but PP is right you wouldn't even get a studio flat near the hospital for that budget. You'd even struggle in Morden at the end of the tube lines so I'd look at bus routes or the trams. Are you planning to drive as it could take a couple of hours in rush hour traffic to drive from these areas

NameIsBryceQuinlan · 10/12/2022 08:13

That will be impossible. It's more than that for a one bed sadly. You'd need to be outside London

Solasum · 10/12/2022 08:16

Are you familiar with rightmove.co.uk? It is usually pretty good for rentals. That price range is going to limit your options enormously I am afraid

MrsZaidi · 10/12/2022 08:17

@MolesOnPoles @NameIsBryceQuinlan @OhhhhhhhhBiscuits @Skinnermarink @broomers @tigerbear so if not in London, then where? is there a place where I can have a proper living and traveling by tube is also easy.

I used to work nearby and we paid £1525 for a fairly run down flat in Ealing, so a 40 min commute in. We’ve moved out to Croydon now in order to buy and the landlord has put that same flat on the market for £1750 a month and not done a single thing to it. Just to give you an idea.

mostlydrinkstea · 10/12/2022 08:19

You need to look at transport links. From south of London I would go to Clapham Junction and pick up a bus.

1 bed over a vape shop for £1450 here in Zone 6. Convenient for local amenities - overlooks the bins.

Maybe the OP made a typo because she forgot she was using a keypad rather than a phone and actually meant a budget of £7400 pcm?

thaodien · 10/12/2022 08:21

The nearest tube line is the District line and the most affordable parts on the line are in the East.
Look for Barking, Dagenham. It takes about 45 mins on the District line. Even there your budget will be stretched, just enough for a one bedroom flat.

HomemadePickle · 10/12/2022 08:22

Hi Mrs Zaidi, I think you’d enjoy London more than Mansfield and it will be better for you as a non driver (your previous thread) but it is more expensive. Suggest you get a tube map online and look at accommodation. Do you need to do on call? That will dictate how far away you can live.

Skinnermarink · 10/12/2022 08:23

plus, Dagenham is quite horrible. I can say this for strain as I have family there and have lived there myself.

thaodien · 10/12/2022 08:24

Within walking distance of a District line station and in your budget

Skinnermarink · 10/12/2022 08:25

Also C&W is about a 13 min walk from a tube station, if you wanted to add on the full time of commute.

Ginmonkeyagain · 10/12/2022 08:25

That budget? Not a lot available in inner London for sure. We were paying £1150 pcm for a two bed flat with a garden in Peckham ten years ago.

mostlydrinkstea · 10/12/2022 08:25

Woking is about an hour commute away. There is a two bed flat on rightmove near the station for £1400ish. You would need to budget for commuting costs.

MrsZaidi · 10/12/2022 08:27

@Solasum yes i am, can you tell if the following website is orignal.

renthero.co.uk/listings/this-is-a-very-impressive-modern-westminster-development-set-in-a-discreet-gated-mews-the-property-comprises-2-bedrooms-2-bat-ec71e4

OP posts:
MrsZaidi · 10/12/2022 08:28

@mostlydrinkstea can you be kind enough to share the exact link, and also tell what can be the commuting cost in a month?

OP posts:
Solasum · 10/12/2022 08:30

@MrsZaidi I have never heard of that site despite living locally and until recently renting frequently for many years. Others may have done though? Try Rightmove or Zoopla

PermanentTemporary · 10/12/2022 08:31

I wouldn't use a website with no rental prices on it.

fruitbrewhaha · 10/12/2022 08:31

www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/129772913#/?channel=RES_LET

this is the only one I could find in London

tigerbear · 10/12/2022 08:31

@MrsZaidi no idea if that site is legit, but the rent for that flat is £3041
