House in southall

fruitbrewhaha · 10/12/2022 08:38

This may help, it’s a listing for a rental for key workers, which I’m assuming you are if you work at a hospital.

House for heroes

MrsZaidi · 10/12/2022 08:40

@fruitbrewhaha nice option. Thanks.

Hello Mrs Zaidi,
I’m a UK doctor. Most hospitals will have some staff accomodation to help encourage people to relocate to their area ( in central London this won’t be the case) .

Your budget for family accomodation is unrealisticly low I’m afraid. You would get much more for your money outside London. Many places outside London have family accomodation for doctors which is not glamorous but affordable and next to the hospital .

You are very welcome to PM me to chat about what specialty you do and what sort of job you are looking for. There is also a super friendly UK doctor mums Facebook group PMGUK ( thousands of us!!)

Looks like around £12 single which is £10ish for the train and £1.65 for the bus. That is using the SW train app. There are probably season tickets. Not all trains run so you might be better off looking Dagenham way for the tube.

C and W is not well located for commuting....

olympicsrock · 10/12/2022 08:43

What grade and specialty is the job you have been offered?

fruitbrewhaha · 10/12/2022 08:45

The commute will be long though from either of the houses I posted. If you are doing it at night with limited service etc if could be hours.

are you moving to the uk from abroad OP? London is amazing but is expensive and big. You could end up spending your life working and commuting. I say London is brilliant if you can afford it. But if you’re poor it’s rubbish.

Have you looked at any other areas? There’s plenty of big towns with hospitals where you could live nearby and have a much better standard of living. But still be able to get into London for day trips to see the sights. Maybe Bedford or Milton Keynes?

My brothers wife worked at Chelsea. They lived in Chiswick then Kew. Both commutable on the district line. V easy. My brother rents out his house in Kew now as they live abroad for £3,000 a month. You might be better off looking at connections on mainline rail to Clapham Junction then a bus to Chelsea of which there are many and very straightforward.

Salvia89 · 10/12/2022 08:56

You could get a decent 2 bed in Reading for that and commute into Paddington, then which isn’t too far from the hospital. That train isn’t particularly cheap though..

Throughabushbackwards · 10/12/2022 09:04

You could commute into Victoria then take the district line tube. Look at Sydenham/Penge/Beckenham, much more reasonable prices that way and that train line is really fast into Victoria.

But all the trains heading into Clapham junction are coming through some really expensive areas, Surrey isn’t any cheaper than London. If you live far out you may as well work in a hospital outside of London.

Here’s the map showing trains into Clapham junction

If you need to do on call, do you have to live within a certain distance or travel time?

fruitbrewhaha · 10/12/2022 09:09

The train from Woking will cost £352 a month plus the bus

Actually some of the London hospitals do have staff accommodation for reduced rents. It is worth checking if Chelwest have an accommodation officer

fruitbrewhaha · 10/12/2022 09:18

Fulham

this is way above your budget at £1950 but you could walk or cycle to the hospital. You’d have no commuting costs so would be saving at least £350 a month. So you need to find £300 extra not £650 extra.

Yes but it is not zone 1. And OPs budget isn’t even zone 4.

When I worked in ChelWest, we lived in a run down two bed in West Kensington which was privately rented but the mansion block was mainly council owned. It cost around £1700 a month but this was around 4 years ago. The rents will have gone up bur West Ken, North End Road, Lillie Rd has cheaper flats than other parts of W London and it's a direct bus or a 25 min walk (a nice walk)

Doliveira · 10/12/2022 10:17

This might suit. tram to Wimbledon, tube to Fulham.

I live in deepest darkest SE London and 2 bedrooms are going for a minimum £1700 a month right now.

Skinnermarink · 10/12/2022 10:32

It does all seem a bit suspicious. OP a lot of these things, such as tube or bus costs, you can easily find out for yourself.
