I am due to start a new job after Christmas. I have passed all the background checks etc etc mths ago and had the offer for 3 mths and have been so excited to start. I got an email from recruitment person asking if I'm free tomorrow as they are doing some kind of "organisational restructure" that they want to get me up to speed on. what the hell does this mean?! It's 3 weeks until Christmas I can't be left jobless my husband is off stick atm and I need this job so so much. Do you think this is them pulling the offer ? Please help

With them saying they want to "get you up to speed" I think it sounds more like they've made some changes and they want to talk you through them.
I hope all goes well tomorrow OP

Tabitha888 · 08/12/2022 20:40

Fingers crossed it's ok op xx

It could be something as simple as your position has been moved under another supervisor/department. Try not to worry. I always find that the things I worry about the most don't end up happening.

nightmarecometrue1 · 08/12/2022 20:51

I'll know all tomorrow but your responses are making me a bit more at ease

How did you get on OP?

nightmarecometrue1 · 09/12/2022 15:20

The offer has been withdrawn! I'm left now with no job 2 weeks before Christmas. I'm ready to burst into tears

Dittosaw · 09/12/2022 15:21

Oh no OP that’s awful. I hope you find something else to tide you over. Appalling timing too!

Anna713 · 09/12/2022 15:30

I'm so sorry. That's terrible. I hope you find something amazing asap.

ProfessorInkling · 09/12/2022 15:33

I'm so sorry OP.

Is there a chance you could stay on in your current job?

Shortpoet · 09/12/2022 15:33

Oh how horrible. Did they give a reason?

On a practical note, what does your contract say about the requirement for notice on their side.

Hoppinggreen · 09/12/2022 15:35

I’m so sorry, that is really unfair

tirednewmumm · 09/12/2022 15:36

Ah you poor thing can you stay out where you are? What a horrible shock

NoelNoNoel · 09/12/2022 16:46

Oh no, I am so sorry to read this.

Notanotherwindow · 09/12/2022 16:52

That is so unprofessional! I think maybe you dodged a bullet there. Are they at least paying you notice? I think they have to if you have signed a contract with them.

MamaFirst · 09/12/2022 16:55

If you signed a contract they can't just withdraw it?! That's the entire point of the contract.... You need to get some professional advice

Buckland123 · 09/12/2022 16:55

Oh no, I’m so sorry. Their wording was shitty as it did make it sound like it wasn’t a big deal. You poor thing. Try not to panic - you need to sit down and plan your next steps to find something else.
After a cry/bottle of wine/run whatever makes you feel better. You can and will find something else.

Unfortunately a contract gives very little protection. Maybe a week's notice pay - it'd usually be just a week in the probationary period.

I'm really sorry, OP. But January is a brilliant time to find a new job as so many people leave for pastures new. Get your CV in with as many recruiters as you can and I'm sure you'll find something. And try not to think about this over Christmas Flowers

ClivePowermax · 09/12/2022 17:04

I'm so sorry, OP.

iknowwheretheothersockgoes · 09/12/2022 19:12

Oh this is awful, I'm so sorry.

I'm sure you are spending this evening in a bit of a spin trying to work out your next steps.

Did a recruitment agent place you? Hopefully they can help with finding another role.

yoshiblue · 09/12/2022 19:21

Sorry to hear this, it's unfortunately happening all over the place at the moment.

It's happened to two leavers at my work and both have ended up staying in their current role. If you are employed, it would be worth going back to your employer to ask if you can stay? Easiest option for security in the short term.

2pinkginsplease · 09/12/2022 19:22

Oh no! The fact you signed a contract and they have then withdrawn the offer doesn’t sound right. Contact ACAS on Monday and explain what’s happened.

what sector was the job in? Could you find any job to tide you over until something comes up.

sounds like it wasn’t the best company to work for anyway.

I can remember a few years ago being called in for a meeting on New Year’s Eve and was made redundant after only 4 month in the job, I applied and applied for a few jobs from the 4th of January and was successful and was employed only a few weeks later, going onto bigger and better things, hopefully this happens for you too.

IhearyouClemFandango · 09/12/2022 19:25

Oh wow, the wording of the original email made it sound like there would be a totally different outcome

Delurking to say this is exactly what happened to my brother. He went straight to ACAS and they helped him get what he was due which was 2 weeks pay, the notice he would have been on on his probation. Definitely speak to them.

Teamladybirdladybird · 09/12/2022 19:42

He also spoke to his employer and they extended his notice period - definitely worth talking to yours (perhaps you can just withdraw your resignation and stay?)
