Migraines ... my god. Ever since I had my DS 11 months ago I'm having migraines almost every other day due to sleep deprivation (my son is still not a good sleeper unfortunately!) Napping in the day when he does makes it worse because I'm so tired it makes it worse because I just need sleep.

(I did have my iron levels checked recently at the GP and all fine)

My go-to is usually anadin extra and migraine relief gel patches but these haven't touched the sides recently. It's really starting to impact my mental health as I'm so exhausted and now always in pain too.

I've had a look on Amazon and there's so much for migraine relief that I don't know where to start or what to try! Any advice would be really appreciated, thank you. Smile

A specific piercing in the ear worked for me but I’m sorry I don’t remember what it was called but anypiercer could advise.
doesn’t work for everyone but did for me almost instantly.

You need to go to the GP and ask for a triptan or other prescription migraine treatment.

I initially was prescribed sumatriptan and it certainly helped but have since tried a different type (I think it's called rivatriptan) it seems to be more effective.

I think it's the Daith piercing

I give ds two Feverfew capsules each day and this keeps his at bay.

AgathaQuiztee · 04/12/2022 23:33

I get migraines which last 72 hours periodically. My go to treatments are:
Soluble aspirin
Sumatriptan (I have this on prescription but you can buy it over the counter, although it's expensive)
Sainsburys migraine relief.

An ice pack on my shoulder as my migraines are tension migraines.

I've been told acupuncture would help but I haven't tried that yet.

Good luck migraines are horrible.

2 paracetamol washed down with a tin of full sugar full caffeine coca cola.

Sunglasses when out and about to negate the low sun this time of year triggering an attack.

Reduce use of devices/use blue light reduction.

Can you rejig what night time looks like? We used to give ours porridge for a light supper, then do teeth and bed - to lessen night time waking from hunger.

lots of water as soon as the visual disturbance starts sometimes fends it off for me. I found they seemed to be affected by hormones. They were worst when I was on the combined pill and when I was breastfeeding. Post menopause they have been far less frequent.

LozzaChops101 · 04/12/2022 23:38

Orodispersible zolmitriptan for me, but mine are menstrual migraines and I can’t keep tablets down when I get one. You can get 2 tablets of Sumatriptan from the pharmacist without prescription though, might be worth a try? Do yours make you sick? White tiger balm slathered on my head helps with nausea a bit, and if you catch it early, caffeine and salt can help a little I find (Marmite toast and diet coke!)

Lots of carbs for the migraine hangover.

I hope you’re ok! I have NO IDEA how people manage migraines when they also have kids. Absolute nightmare.

lovelilies · 04/12/2022 23:45

900mg aspirin (3 tablets) at the onset of the migraine.
Sorts it right out.

Dbank · 04/12/2022 23:50

For me, as soon as the aura starts, drinking lots of water and an Alka seltzer express usually reduces the effect hugely. I still get a mild headache afterwards for a couple of hours.
Hope you find something that works for you.

ShirleyPhallus · 04/12/2022 23:52

Aspirin and full fat coke
sumatriptan

ferber method for the non sleeping baby. No need to be going through this with him at 11 months. Tackle the root cause!

CrapBucket · 04/12/2022 23:55

Daith piercing worked for me on my severe migraines, I was very surprised.

Missingparcel · 05/12/2022 00:02

3 x dispersible aspirin in a full fat coke. Doesn't always work and some people get rebound headaches from taking the same medication. If I have sleep deprivation plus a bit of dehydration then I get migraines. You can't do much on the sleep front by the sounds of it. I'd go to your gp. Its miserable. Hope you get some relief soon.

Changingmynameyetagain · 05/12/2022 00:02

2 paracetamol, an ice cold can of full sugar coke and an ice pack on the back of my neck usually sorts mine.
I have to get it before my eyes start twitching or it’s too late. Then I have to have a sumatriptan tablet and a buccastem tablet for the nausea and just sleep it off.
Mine are hormonal though so I can roughly predict one depending on my cycle.

Selok · 05/12/2022 00:07

Beta blockers worked miracle for my cluster headaches

pigonalipstick · 05/12/2022 00:08

A good vomit is the only thing that makes me feel better!

Utini · 05/12/2022 00:12

Talk to your GP. At that frequency you should consider preventatives such as a beta blocker, as well as an abortive such as sumatriptan.

Worth looking into magnesium and coenzyme q10 for prevention too, there's some reasonable evidence that they can help. I found they reduced the severity but not the frequency, others find they become less frequent too. High dose B2 is another one that can help.

Hope you find something that helps, I remember how difficult it was dealing with migraines and a baby.

Manchmal · 05/12/2022 00:12

You need to see a doctor, there’s loads of prescription medications for migraine, preventative and stuff to lessen an attack when it does happen.

i also swear by dark glasses, aspirin in fullfat coke and a daith piercing

Consufed · 05/12/2022 00:14

Painkillers, a dark room, keeping still, and ice packs on the head and back of the neck.

Mydogneedsabath · 05/12/2022 00:14

Thankyou yes that’s the one.

alwaysott · 05/12/2022 00:14

2 panadol extra, 1 nurofen(400mg) taken together, and biofreeze gel all over the forehead and back of neck. Never fails me.

A good vomit is the only thing that makes me feel better!

Ha.yep. Years ago I Had a horrific migraine when was on a really technical dense training course on the minutiae and governance of using eu funding for large scale projects. Which is every bit as lighthearted and thrilling as it sounds.

I looked hungover and kept feeling worsened worse.i was sipping at a litre bottle of cloudy apple juice trying to settle my stomach and get some sugar in me. The nausea came on really suddenly I sprinted to the bog and puked up what felt like gallons of pure liquid, like something off a horror movie. It was terrifying.

did feel better afterwards tho.

Closeofday · 05/12/2022 00:34

I can tell when my botox is wearing off as the migraines increase!

Closeofday · 05/12/2022 00:35

Where does the daith piercing go? Is it just one ear?

WGO · 05/12/2022 00:55

Annadin extra soluble

A good vomit speeds up the healing ..normally need it as my migraines often come with an insatiable appetite where I can not get full
