Migraines ... my god. Ever since I had my DS 11 months ago I'm having migraines almost every other day due to sleep deprivation (my son is still not a good sleeper unfortunately!) Napping in the day when he does makes it worse because I'm so tired it makes it worse because I just need sleep.

(I did have my iron levels checked recently at the GP and all fine)

My go-to is usually anadin extra and migraine relief gel patches but these haven't touched the sides recently. It's really starting to impact my mental health as I'm so exhausted and now always in pain too.

I've had a look on Amazon and there's so much for migraine relief that I don't know where to start or what to try! Any advice would be really appreciated, thank you. Smile

Propranolol daily for preventative measure. Sumatriptan when I get one. I also get pins and needles in my left arm. Ramming my head against my headboard to create pressure on my head helps too.

Moknicker · 05/12/2022 01:26

I have the same thing - migraines induced by lack of sleep.
400mg of magnesium glycinate everyday was a godsent for me. It really reduced both frequency and severity
Once i feel it coming on sometimes gatorate helps before it really takes hold. Once it takes hold industrial strength ibuprofen plus sleep in a dark room is the only thing that works.

One of those eye masks that can go in the fridge

I would say that botox only lessened the severity and frequency of my migraines and was an accidental discovery. They definitely don't go completely. I'm awake with one right now.

Cherry35 · 05/12/2022 02:36

Go to GP and ask preventatives. They have really helped me.

Wavingnotdrown1ng · 05/12/2022 02:47

Preventatives e.g Propanalol and triptans to head off attacks. I also find ready salted crisps and Jammy Dodgers help early on, although I vomit later in an attack.
if you are taking painkillers daily then you will be getting rebound headaches due to overuse.
No caffeine or alcohol.
I find a hot water bottle for my neck during an attack and sports massages as a preventative help.

Redebs · 05/12/2022 02:52

At the first hint (ache in eye socket), I get a packet of ready salted crisps and then slowly suck them.

Redebs · 05/12/2022 02:58

@Wavingnotdrown1ng I've never heard anyone else mention crisps before. I thought it was just me. What a coincidence to be posting same at this time of night 😃

Definitely go to GP, get preventative medication or whatever they think suitable for your type of migraine.
Best wishes

Soonenough · 05/12/2022 03:10

I found a tepid bath with a cold cloth on forehead and neck helped enormously. Also use the full fat coke and 900mg of aspirin . But for me , the best cure was to sleep it off. Any chance of somebody helping out so that you can get a break ?

InWalksBarberalla · 05/12/2022 04:00

Cbd oil twice daily and avoiding food triggers (citrus being the worst for me) has made a huge difference in frequency
Then for treatment either panadol extra (the one with caffeine) and or triptans.

PARunnerGirl · 05/12/2022 04:07

Long-term sufferer here. I’m not one for taking medication for anything and everything but I don’t play with migraines! Zolmitriptan from the GP. 2.5mg tablet kills it almost every time, occasionally I need to take a second.

undersleptagain · 05/12/2022 04:10

Sumatriptin and Naproxen, I have both on prescription. I also find lying in a hot bath or having a hot shower really helps relieve the throbbing in my head. Although the migraine usually stops if I take the sumatriptin early enough.

Fraaahnces · 05/12/2022 04:59

Do you get migraines with aura? Are you on the pill? If so, need to get to GP because your stroke risk is very high.

HoppingPavlova · 05/12/2022 05:40

Botox. Some anti-seizure meds. Needs a good neurologist to oversee.

Zippea · 05/12/2022 05:47

Small can of full fat coke (mixer size), 2 x zomitriptan and white tiger balm on my forehead, neck and pressure point

reddingweddy · 05/12/2022 05:51

Caffeine used to be a trigger but weirdly is now a cure.

SoggyBananaLoaf · 05/12/2022 05:56

It really does sound daft, but the daith piercing really worked for me. I'm usually cynical about such things! It's done on the side where your migraines tend to focus. Placebo or not, i haven't had a migraine since I had it done six years ago.

I hope you get sorted, they're awful!

Canuck48 · 05/12/2022 06:27

I am on a daily controller called Topomax and I get Botox every three months. I am also prescribed Frovtriptran for breakthrough ones. I used to get 3-5 a week and now thankfully rarely.

They are so debilitating. Getting an ice pack you can wear either just around your neck can help. They also have full head ones that are highly recommended.

I would absolutely work on getting your little one on a sleep schedule. Easier said than done I know but you need some sanity in order to parent them as well.

Maybe a mothers helper or family come help in the day so you can get a decent nap/sleep in. Sleep is such a big thing for any health issues.

Go to your dr. Hormones after pregnancy can cause them, being in birth control can cause issues as well. Worth making a visit to see how they can help.

I wish you the best in resolving them.

LondonWolf · 05/12/2022 06:36

Dispersible aspirin x 3 immediately followed by half a can of red coke. It's the only thing that works. Also for me, the brand matters. I really don't know why as I am told they're identical ingredients and process of manufacture, but I find the Waitrose own brand better than any other.

WildCherryBlossom · 05/12/2022 15:50

Prevent with daily high dose of B2 and magnesium

NameIsBryceQuinlan · 05/12/2022 15:53

@Canuck48
Hello do you mind me asking with the botox, how much is that? And does it have aesthetic botox effect? I don't like the idea of having a smooth head, can you notice it?

Itsfridaynightok · 05/12/2022 16:38

900mg aspirin honestly game changer
Just not too often as not great for the stomach

TwuntingCrow · 05/12/2022 16:39

it is a Daith piercing..I have one for the same reason!

TwuntingCrow · 05/12/2022 16:41

I have botox for my migraines also.. I don't get any 'effects' because I specifically tell them I don t. want that. They inject in my scalp, hairline and up the back of my neck... It has been a gamechanger - I hit 50 next year so I may reassess the 'no effects' policy!
