What should I cook in it??
I've spent ages trawling the internet trying to find one in stock and I finally managed to snag a 9ltr Ninja Dual fryer earlier today 😃

I want to cook all the things!

We got a Tefal from Aldi and it arrived today. DH is the chef though.

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 04/12/2022 12:01

It's coming today! Any minute now 😁 I'm so excited!

So you've bought an expensive item but have no idea what you'll do with it?

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 04/12/2022 12:05

According to someone on radio 5 the other day you need to cook using it every day for 2 years (without turning the oven on!) to start saving money using the air fryer.

so you need to cook everything, every day in it!

TangledWebofMincemeatDeception · 04/12/2022 12:05

No need to be snippy...OP has got a new gadget and needs to learn how to use it, that’s all.

ThreeB · 04/12/2022 12:07

Roast chicken in ours tonight. Chicken in one side, roasties, carrots and parsnips in the other and I'll do a quick gravy on the hob while the chicken is resting.
The reduction in cooking times has been a game changer in my house

We started using our Air fryer for beige toddler food but quickly branched out into baking. It heats up quickly and is super temperature controlled - makes great rolls, puddings and cheese straws type of thing.

You just need to find the right baking bits to go in it.

She said she wants to cook all the things, what more do you want from her?!

OP I got one recently (without writing a 25 page business case assessing what I would do with it prior) and I'm basically finding pretty much anything I would do I in the oven I can do in the air fryer, quicker. So I haven't really "planned" anything, shopped and meal prepped as usual and where something will go in the air fryer I do that. I've done everything from a roast dinner, through to snacks, lots of snacks admittedly. I joined a Facebook group and whenever I need to know how to cook something just search on there, hasn't been anything I haven't been able to find help on yet!

name78change · 04/12/2022 12:26

@PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister it's not about the money saving, I doubt many people spending £200+ on an air fryer are desperately seeking savings, for most people it's the time saving that has the biggest impact. Cooking time is dramatically reduced.

Floralnomad · 04/12/2022 12:33

We had a Ninja Foodie but gave it away as I preferred my halogen oven so I hope you make more use of yours .

Mine cost £49 so I don't think it'll take me that long!!! Especially with teens that used to use the oven for 2 hash browns 🙄

Exactly the same in our house!

@Floralnomad

I'm looking to buy 'something' I'm just not sure what.

what do you see as the pros & cons of each??
'

@AintNobodyHereButUsChickens cheese toasted sandwich & chips for lunch!!

Floralnomad · 04/12/2022 13:15

@SkylightSkylight , the downsides of the Ninja for me were it seemed fairly complicated , there was lots of bits to wash up after using it , it wasn’t a physically big enough bowl to take a medium sized pizza and it made a very annoying beeping sound when it switched on and off that frightened my stupid dog . I didn’t want to pressure cook or make chips . I have a reasonably sized kitchen but I didn’t want the Ninja and the Halogen ( which I’ve had for many years and use daily) on the side and if I’d put the ninja in a cupboard the likelihood was I’d never use it . The halogen can do everything I want , you can cook a chicken in it if you want , bake a cake etc it has the advantage that it’s a glass bowl so you can see what’s going on and a pizza fits in . I have owned a few halogens ( I wear them out ) but they can be bought for £30/40 whereas the Ninja we had was over £150 . I use the halogen everyday more than once and rarely use my main oven .

Best baked potatoes ever 😃

I snagged a bargain about 6 months back and bought a last years model brand new for £25. DS loves halloumi fries in it and can cook himself a hot lunch when I'm at work. Been a game changer for him

CambsAlways · 04/12/2022 13:28

Bought the Cosori 5.8 love it, and enjoying cooking lots of different foods in it

Do you know, I think we have. I can’t actually remember the last time I used my oven.

I have one of the airfryers that looks like a mini oven though, with shelves. So you can put so much in it.

I didn’t get on with the one with drawers.

Footballmyarse · 04/12/2022 14:07

Also, mine is big enough for pizzas, joints of meat etc. Love it.

Floralnomad · 04/12/2022 14:09

A different style may have suited us then .

theyoungishman · 04/12/2022 14:19

I made crispy pork belly in mine tonight and the crackling was outstanding!

For an afternoon snack I made seasoned kale chips, and I also made a stash of home-made granola for the cupboard.

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 04/12/2022 16:17

It's currently cooking the tea and I've already massively overestimated how long it would take to do my veg and I burnt it 😂

Thinkbiglittleone · 04/12/2022 16:25

We are looking at getting one as I can't believe how much it will cut down on our cooking time.
Most of our (extortionately priced) electricity is used on our oven.
My DH had worked out it will also help save us a few quid which is a winner.

OP how long did you veg take to be overcooked ?

Thinkbiglittleone · 04/12/2022 16:26

Although looking at all these foods that come out lovely, it will end up being a false economy as I will cook things I wouldn't normally GrinGrin

15 minutes and was almost black 🫢😂 it usually takes around 40 in the oven! It'll take some figuring out but I'm going to love it!
