What should I cook in it??
I've spent ages trawling the internet trying to find one in stock and I finally managed to snag a 9ltr Ninja Dual fryer earlier today 😃

I want to cook all the things!

We've used our big oven three times since we got our air fryer three months ago! It's used almost daily. Enjoy, OP!

We use ours daily!! Hardly touch the oven these days. It's sooo good! As pp have said, it's more about the time saving. When I get in from work with 3 hangry kids, I can have something hot and decent ready in about 10 minutes. Life saver! I haven't used the bake setting yet but very tempted to try.

We've had the same one a week and have done

Chicken strips and chips
Toasties
Arancini from the book that came with it
Sprouts
Roast pots

We had a baked Camembert yesterday and should have done that in it too.

Might do some spring rolls in it.

It's currently cooking the tea and I've already massively overestimated how long it would take to do my veg and I burnt it 😂

You don't need the temperature as high as an ordinary oven. Have a look on Pinterest or similar and you will find a chart which tells you the temperature and times to use - like this. pinchofnom.com/how-to-convert-recipes-to-an-air-fryer/?utm_source=pocket_saves

I did a chicken crown in mine today and it was bloody lovely!! Crispy skin and not dry at all.

I hope you love your air fryer. I've had mine a few months now and rarely use the oven any more. Its brilliant!

@SkylightSkylight , the downsides of the Ninja for me were it seemed fairly complicated , there was lots of bits to wash up after using it , it wasn’t a physically big enough bowl to take a medium sized pizza and it made a very annoying beeping sound when it switched on and off that frightened my stupid dog . I didn’t want to pressure cook or make chips . I have a reasonably sized kitchen but I didn’t want the Ninja and the Halogen ( which I’ve had for many years and use daily) on the side and if I’d put the ninja in a cupboard the likelihood was I’d never use it . The halogen can do everything I want , you can cook a chicken in it if you want , bake a cake etc it has the advantage that it’s a glass bowl so you can see what’s going on and a pizza fits in . I have owned a few halogens ( I wear them out ) but they can be bought for £30/40 whereas the Ninja we had was over £150 . I use the halogen everyday more than once and rarely use my main oven .

@Floralnomad

thank you for that!

your reasons are much like my apprehensions!!

if it's a PITA to clean, it'll end up taking up half my worktop & being in a state of 'needs washing' 🙄🙄

there are FAR too many, I'm well confused.

name78change · 06/12/2022 21:33

@SkylightSkylight I have the dual and it's really easy to clean, I have silicon inserts that can just go in the dishwasher, but if I do use a whole drawer it's really easy to rinse out. I think you can even put the drawers in the dishwasher but they say for longevity it's better to hand wash.

Really easy to use too, the simplicity of the dual won me over in the end and everything I've wanted to do in it so far has been able to be done in it.

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 07/12/2022 07:55

I've used it every day so far and can confirm it's not really a faff. It's easily wipe clean-able due to the non-stick! Still trying to get used to using it though, I did frozen chips in it but they came out crap and undercooked, they definitely needed a lot longer than what the book recommends.

@name78change it's so funny reading everyone's views on the same thing.

Plus halogen mini oven v air fryer brand v brand

my head is fried never mind food!!

name78change · 07/12/2022 18:16

@AintNobodyHereButUsChickens yes I'm finding the 10/20 rule doesn't always work, and tend to have more success with bake and roast functions (for longer) than air fry. I find it cooks through more consistently.

mincepiepie · 07/12/2022 18:49

I really like how hot the food is! That is a big plus for me as I love volcanically hot food!

Ninja dual max air fryer did sausages jn 10 mins perfectly cooked.

Chicken strips in 13 mins from frozen super hot and hot chips! Really pleased with it. Glad it's in the garage though. Find it a bit smelly!

MsNightingale · 07/12/2022 19:46

@SkylightSkylight the other advantage of halogens is that because they are not the latest gadget, you can get them really cheap on second hand sites. I got mine free on Facebook, and use it every day. They don't save as much per use as an air fryer, and I assume the "fried" finish isn't the same. However, they are still quicker than an oven, you can see things cooking, they need no warming up, and they easily cope with cooking for six. Buying an equivalent sized air fryer would be quite expensive.

SkylightSkylight · 08/12/2022 11:05

@MsNightingale thank you for that. Yeah, I had considered the initial outlay, but to be honest, I want the thing that will work the best for me, because I HATE cooking, I HATE washing annoying things & my oven is very old (kitchen needs renovating but I can't focus on it at the moment & tradies are impossible to get booked in) I love my oven (very old electric one with the over the top grill, reminds me of my Nanas house!) but energy efficient it is not. So cooking just for me, makes it feel like such a waste to use, it doesn't work well if you use a couple of levels at the same time etc etc.

im just SOOOO confused, but hopefully come January. I'll make my mind up & they'll have some st a good price! 😂

MsNightingale · 08/12/2022 13:30

@SkylightSkylight maybe it’s worth trying to pick up either one second hand - then you can give it a trial, decide what you want, and sell on the one you bought. If the only alternative is an inefficient oven, it’s worth starting to save the electric now!

I’m still trying to decide if I want an air fryer as well, but cooking for 6+ people every day, I’d need a big one, so it would need a big cash outlay. I only got the halogen one because it was free, so worth trying.
