*possible trigger*. partner has cancer

My partner (fiancé) has just been diagnosed with stage 4 oesophageal cancer. Lots to take in, lots of information just been told and we are in bits.

It has spread to lymph nodes locally but not other areas which I understand is good, but the tumour is 4 which is bad.

He and I are hoping for the best (cured) but preparing for the worst. He has to undergo 2 more tests to see if he can withstand surgery - so a CPET exercise test and a PET scan. Once those are done we will know if he can have surgery or not.

Chemo will happen either way. I can't tell him how terrified I am, I need to be strong for him, but I need an outlet. And advice.

He has been told all food needs to go in blender, not to have certain things and basically soup and smoothie is all he can have.

@Jaxinthebox I know this is an old thread now but I've just been searching oesophagus cancer and came across your thread, how is your husband now OP? I really hope it has ended well for you both.

Hi @mistymirror he is doing very well. Its been a very long, very tough road for him but he is 'no detectable disease' so that is a positive.

We live every day and try to make as many memories and travel when we can.

Thank you for asking.

I am so happy to read this for you and your husband.
My Mum has just been diagnosed with oesophagus cancer which has also spread the lymphnodes in her neck. We don't yet know the stage of the cancer but have an appointment on 15th to find out. It's terrifying and after reading stories online it's not given me much hope but after reading your update it does give me some hope she might have a chance.

it depends if it has metastasised elsewhere in the body which will determine treatment options.

I wish the best outcome for your Mum. There is a great Facebook page for oesophageal cancer that will offer help, support and general advice.
