Anyone else suffer insomnia?

So managed 3 hours sleep tonight… I’m now awake (have been for the past hour) for no good reason and can’t get back to sleep. Going to feel exhausted during the day…

So anyone else suffer this delightful condition? Feel free to share your insomnia stories? (I’m talking being awake for no fucking good reason at all, not just waking to feed your baby ect, this is a very good reason to be awake and hopefully a temporary situation, although feel free to join in if you want to talk to another human who’s awake at this unearthly hour lol) 🙂

Yes. Does my head in.

Knackered so go to bed, manage about two hours sleep then WIDE awake. What make it worse is I normally fall asleep again about 40 minutes before I have to get up.

I have had the best part of 20 years of it and have tried everything including fairly heavy duty sleeping tablets. All they did was make me feel worse the next day.

I would estimate I have averaged three hours sleep a night over the last 20 years.

Yes… hello there. No babies or kids to look after (those days have gone sadly) but middle aged insomniac here…

Yes this is exactly what I do… It’s so frustrating isn’t it? 🤦‍♀️

Hi, welcome to the wide awake club ! Absolutely exhausted and awake for no reason, can’t even get up to make a cup of tea as don’t want to wake my family .

Passthecheeseboard · 01/12/2022 04:19

It’s such a strange thing to be awake at this time when everyone else is sleeping. Feels like I’m the only human awake lol even my cats sleeping… lucky cat, she’s twitching her whiskers too so must be dreaming something …

Passthecheeseboard · 01/12/2022 04:22

Yes. I spent 19 on stupid shit on etsy last nt. I usually resist the urge but... Sigh.

I'm recovering from covid and it's ruined my usually asleep at 4-5am, I'm now hitting 8-10am. Can't break it.

Currently watching 90 day fiance tell all.

What do you do?? 💖

BlueKaftan · 01/12/2022 04:29

Same here. Wide awake when I should be sleeping as I’m about to start Day 2 of a new job. I have a full schedule today starting at 8:30 and I’m not sure how I’m going to make it through/ Middle age, post menopausal 😳

Passthecheeseboard · 01/12/2022 04:34

I normally just scroll through mumsnet on Reddit to pass the time… I do like 90day fiancé though

Wishing you luck in your new job, maybe take some coffee in the morning to help with the fatigue?

Around 3 years into terrible insomnia here. Go to sleep really easily and sleep for a few hours then start waking from 1am and go to sleep on and off sometimes only for 10 mins or so then awake for the day between 4-5. It's fucking grim, I'm exhausted. Have tried everything I can but nothing makes a difference. I hit a wall around 5pm in the evening and have to keep myself going cause if I sit down I will undoubtedly fall asleep.

Out for a work party tonight and the thought of having to stay out late knowing how tired I will be is horrid.

rippleraspberry · 01/12/2022 04:49

Yup, I often wake around this time or earlier (3.30am today).

Luckily I go to bed quite early so I can manage 5 hours or so before I wake up.

Then I'm exhausted again by 10/11am 😂 No idea how I hold down a job sometimes!

Aramox · 01/12/2022 04:54

Gummy supplements mentioned earlier are good to break the cycle. Helps you doze off again. So boring isn't it?

dudsville · 01/12/2022 05:03

Hello fellow nightwalkers!

My rhythm isn't stable. I'm currently on 2 to 3 hrs. I'll do this until my body finally gives in. That might be a few weeks or a couple of months. It's so much harder now in my 50s to function on so little. Once I'm through this i will have a good period of 2 to 4 months reliably at 5 or 6 hrs. I take a lot of antihistamines to achieve this, but before that i had decades on minimal sleep and i was losing my mind. It makes me so angry when medical professionals talk about addiction to pills; sleep is addictive, damn right i want to sleep! I once had a 7 hr sleep and life was so strange that day, i had so much energy, i had more space to care about things but i didn't feel like myself, it was so funny!

dudsville · 01/12/2022 05:04

Where are you all getting gummy supplements from?

A few years ago I had insomnia bad where I couldn’t even fall asleep initially so would be awake all night until I maybe had an hour before my alarm would go off, sometimes no sleep at all. This went on for months I don’t even know how I was functioning and someone suggested to try the oil (hadn’t heard of the gummies back then) and it worked straight away for me! The oil wasn’t nice though so I would definitely try gummies!

sanityisamyth · 01/12/2022 05:32

Yep. This is me every night. I can't remember the last time I've slept through. Many many months, or years. Fall asleep at 11ish. Awake by 2. Back to sleep around 5ish, then the alarm goes off at 7.45. I'm permanently exhausted.

Thekormachameleon · 01/12/2022 05:45

I've just given up and got up and had some porridge and made a cup of tea

Been awake since 2am and just got progressively more awake. Been like this for a few months now, my job doesn't help as I work a mix of day and night shifts so I have no sleep pattern but this is killing me on top of chronic illness and pain I am struggling

Yes I do night shifts which kind of suits me… I naturally am awake at night and actually sleep better in the day ( although still not great sleep) … it’s such an antisocial routine though

Does anyone else find they have really dramatic dreams when the sleep too?… I feel like my dreams are just so stimulating (but not in a good way!🤣) they wake me up then I can’t get back to sleep. Tonight for instance I dreamt all my fish escaped and I was chasing them round the room trying to get them back in the tank… I woke up feeling all stressed and tangled in my duvet🤨

Speak to your doctor the nhs has a sleep programme where a therapist calls you once a week for six weeks to help improve sleep.
I suspect you are over tired falling into deep sleep and then you are too refreshed to go back into another sleep cycle.
I also found the egg shell Matress topper a life changer. Peri menopause really effects sleep.

Also google inattentive adhd - hyperactive mind rather than hyperactive body
