Anyone else suffer insomnia?

So managed 3 hours sleep tonight… I’m now awake (have been for the past hour) for no good reason and can’t get back to sleep. Going to feel exhausted during the day…

So anyone else suffer this delightful condition? Feel free to share your insomnia stories? (I’m talking being awake for no fucking good reason at all, not just waking to feed your baby ect, this is a very good reason to be awake and hopefully a temporary situation, although feel free to join in if you want to talk to another human who’s awake at this unearthly hour lol) 🙂

I seem to be sleeping a little bit better now -I woke at 5am today which is doable. Anything with a 3 or a 4 at the beginning kills me as I'm up for the day then. If I wake at 1 I can normally get back to sleep after a couple of hours.

I have found Sominex helps me - only for a few days, before your body gets used to it, but it is helpful.

I really don't think the MN needs to block the posts talking about gummies!

MN has blocked my post! Ha.

Anyway I did recommend Sominex in it. Hopefully that wasn't the word that triggered the block....

Yes, another insomnia sufferer here! It's just the pits when you know you need to sleep because you have to be able to function at work next day but you're lying there wide awake. For me it's definitely caused by (usually work related) stress and anxiety. I think menopause has made it worse too. I would also be interested to know about any supplements to take to support with sleep. Or has anyone had support from their GP? Thanks

Yes. It’s awful. Been awake since 4am - only just found this thread though. Keen to hear anything that works even temporarily.

I can relate to this. It’s not easy suffering from insomnia but somehow it gets easier. I try to avoid naps and sleep as soon I feel tired and I’m about to drift off at night, but if I’m wide awake all night sometimes it doesn’t make sense to try to sleep when you have to be up in an hour to leave the house etc.

Gps can now prescribe melatonin for sleep disorders ( over 55!) of course that's assuming you can access a gp

Have you tried Promethazine or Amitryptiline? Both help when I fall in to an insomnia phase which I go through a few times a year. Have got the gummies too they really help me feel sleepy.

Yes x

Do you have to be 55 + to get prescribed (insert mumsnet forbidden word that mustn’t be said)

I've found Nytol helps.

I got some melatonin from the US and they didn't work. Made me feel really groggy the next day too.

Lots of people swear by anti hystamines.

I have improved my sleep massively by dropping to one cup of caffeined coffee a day (when I wake up), and cutting out sugars and high glycaemic index carbs. I don't sleep well on a low carb diet though and I don't sleep well at all if I have alcohol. It's been trial and error for me, and I still have bad nights. Mine has been made worse by the perimenopause.

I haven't tried CBD gummies which is what I thought MN was banning.

Like many others on here, once I'm awake, it's often my to -do list, stress or worry about stuff that keeps me awake. My head won't let me sleep even though my body needs it.
