Does anyone else find LinkedIn to be nauseating?

BirgetteNyborg · 29/11/2022 17:14

Yeah I know I can leave it but I do find it useful for job updates etc but the posts are vomit inducing.

All look at me I did something nice?

Oh look I helped someone, look at me... I'm
not posting this to get recognition for myself just to say you too can be nice... and get someone coffee which is a fantastic learning experience that I must share

Today there was one from some man posting about his daughter's troubles at school and how she was changing school and he would "always have her back" also included picture of said daughter in school uniform?? Lots of replies about what a great dad he is of course.

I mean WTF does the child's school experience have to do with a professional networking site. Plus how does she consent to that????

You sound nice.

RavenT · 29/11/2022 17:18

I read a profile of someone I know through work. To say it exaggerated their skills is a huge understatement. They started off with 'I'm your classic all round Nice Guy'.

Cringe.

TinFoilHatty · 29/11/2022 17:23

One of my rellies self decribed themselves as an 'influencer' which made me chortle unkindly. Blush

balalake · 29/11/2022 17:25

Some people seem to be sensible, others ridiculous I agree. Boasting did not start with LinkedIn though.

PearlclutchersInc · 29/11/2022 17:27

It's all very (self) aggrandising usually and I've no idea where all the personal stuff has come from. Probably post COVID (at COVID all the dads bragging about their home schooling efforts🙄)

Loathe it🤮

Covetthee · 29/11/2022 17:33

Its a platform for constant self bragging now.

i get you need to put yourself out there to network but the posts are becoming nauseating.

and the constant sucking up people do to their companies 🙄

mamacattiva · 29/11/2022 17:34

Everyone finds LinkedIn nauseating!

Swampthing55 · 29/11/2022 17:35

You control your own feed depending on who you follow same as any other social media. I spend all day every day on there and don't see anything like you said. It's the only soc med I use.

RambamThankyouMam · 29/11/2022 17:39

I've never had even a whisper of a job from LinkedIn. I therefore conclude that it's a massive waste of time. Full of recruiters and Apprentice knobs.

mel787 · 29/11/2022 17:44

It's so annoying isn't it. I'm on the verge of deleting mine because of the posts that people put on. I cringe at most of them

SilentHedges · 29/11/2022 17:46

I left LinkedIn years ago, after one of their many data breaches and password leaks.

I wouldn't advertise my home address on social media, and I wouldn't advertise my work address either. Its really personal info to me.

TellySavalashairbrush · 29/11/2022 17:48

It can be an amusing read. I’ve read two former colleagues who described themselves in absolutely glowing terms, with a highly photoshopped profile picture. The reality was so far from their descriptions that I almost admired their brazenness.

PaulRobinsonsSeventhWife · 29/11/2022 17:48

Virtue signalling to the max, just discovered the Twitter account @stateoflinkedin. So cringeworthy.

Roselilly36 · 29/11/2022 17:49

Some hilarious posts, the one about electric cars today, was pure comedy gold.

napody · 29/11/2022 17:49

Everyone finds LinkedIn nauseating!

This, surely?

Jackiebrambles · 29/11/2022 17:50

mamacattiva · 29/11/2022 17:34

Everyone finds LinkedIn nauseating!

Yes I 100% agree, it's very cringe.

Flapjackquack · 29/11/2022 17:51

The Ukrainian refugee top trumps was a particular highlight complete with photos of said refugees, no idea if they had given their consent.

I recently changed jobs so have deactivated LinkedIn for a while.

RandomMusings7 · 29/11/2022 17:52

I hate-follow a lady who is the epitome of arrogance. She plasters a picture of her on her every post, no matter the subject. Then proceeds to like her own post. And every post includes insane narcissistic remarks about how her success is absolutely unique, her work is perfection and she has an unmatched work ethic, drive and attention to detail.

Vomit inducing!

EspeciallyD · 29/11/2022 17:56

Mine's not usually too bad but I did see the same one about the dad backing the little girl to change school and rolled my eyes a bit.

Definitely more virtue signalling than there used to be, but I still find a lot of useful content too.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 29/11/2022 17:57

I find it quite useful for following companies, govt. Depts, research organisations etc. But I know what you mean.

TomTraubertsBlues · 29/11/2022 18:00

It can be useful, but yes - the level of self promotion you see on there can be cringe-worthy. It's worse than FB for things like that in my view.

Strugglingtodomybest · 29/11/2022 18:01

I think it must depend on which industry you're in, because I spend a good portion of my day on it and I have never seen this. Thank god!

JenniferAllisonPhillipaSue · 29/11/2022 18:07

I used to work in an HR team where we wrote and stored job descriptions for the organisation. Linkedin was always fun to see what title people gave themselves, as opposed to what title the organisation had given them!

BirgetteNyborg · 29/11/2022 18:07

Maybe I need to cull some of my connections....

I saw a funny take on Twitter all right...

"I was on my way to an interview and got delayed when I helped a dog get some water. What do you know when I got to my interview the interviewer was the dog" I am sharing this so you know never walk by a thirsty dog. I got the job by the wayGrin

HuntingoftheSnark · 29/11/2022 18:12

It's the number of posts that begin "it's totally out of character for me to post something so personal on a professional site, but ...." 😬
