A camp or air-bed that would be suitable for an elderly person

Please could I have some recommendations for a single camp bed or air bed that is as comfortable as possible and won’t deflate overnight?

Thank you! 🛏️

Honestly either a proper bed or a local hotel. I've tried many and they are OK but um finding it harder as I get older and I'm just in my 50s.

MarshaMelrose · 28/11/2022 13:45

How old? Are they agile at getting up from a low position?

Aerobeds are the best you’ll get. Inflate to full height, are stable and solid while comfy and don’t go down. Not cheap though.

Early 70s, they are agile. It’s more the comfort-factor than the ‘getting up from the floor’ factor that’s the issue. Unfortunately a hotel isn’t a possibility.

A neighbour's spare room?

CMOTDibbler · 28/11/2022 13:54

We have a double height aerobed which is very comfortable, doesn't deflate and is easy to get up from. We add a mattress topper to stop any sweaty feeling

MarshaMelrose · 28/11/2022 13:55

Give them your bed and you sleep on the blow up.

Would be more than happy to. Unfortunately, they don’t want to sleep in our bed. Plus there are two of us yet only space for a single additional campbed!

MIL requested we get an Aerobed after she'd used one (we did ask for her opinion, I should add!) It was only a single one but she had no complaints. In her early 60s at the time. The height of it was one of the factors that she liked.

airbeds can get awfully cold.

decathlon (or other outdoor store) for something like this?

plus a cheap foam matress (cut to size from a caravan or yacht supplier).

LittenTree99 · 28/11/2022 14:09

Where did you all buy your Aerobeds?

Is it just for a night or two? I think I'd rather sleep on a sofa than a camp bed if I had to sleep at someone's house.

Never mind that - turns out AeroBeds aren’t available for sale in the U.K. any more unless you want to import from the US.

Again would be very happy with this but our sofas are only two seater not three seater. So you can’t actually lie/stretch out on one.

I wish our house were larger! 🙈

Sad times on the Aerobeds! Yes got mine a while ago

AnotherAppleThief · 28/11/2022 14:25

A SIM is more comfortable than an air bed although there's absolutely zero chance I would have an elderly person sleep on the floor, that's terrible.

1990s · 28/11/2022 14:25

See if you can get one off eBay or similar?

ComtesseDeSpair · 28/11/2022 14:26

I’m not elderly (yet) but we have a Jay-be camp bed for camping.L because I can’t stand air mattresses. It’s pretty sturdy and comfortable and isn’t like trying to get up off a trampoline.

PicaK · 28/11/2022 14:37

In the camping section YAWN airbeds are repeatedly recommended by those who camp for weeks at a time. They're not cheap but firm and high up and good for ease of access. You do need the special fitted sheet though.

AlwaysLatte · 28/11/2022 14:44

My mum can't make the stairs up to our guest bedroom so we have a single sofa bed in the office downstairs (looks like an armchair when folded) and she says that's very comfortable. I'm not sure an air bed would be at all suitable for an elderly person?

I have a folding bed, the better quality one

AriettyHomily · 28/11/2022 14:47

We got an old fashioned z bed for FIL, from Argos I think, it's fine for him for a couple of weeks at a time.

ShaunaTheSheep · 28/11/2022 14:55

We have one of those folding sofas, a small double from M&S with a thick topper. I'm told it's comfortable enough for a night or two.

Do you have any DC that would give up their beds?
