Covid - what was it like for you?

I tested yesterday as had quite a bad cough. Result was positive. Cough seemed a little better today, was feeling sicky on and off, but not too bad.

Now the cough is back to how it was, and I'm achy with a sore head.

Just wondering what the likelihood is of feeling even worse tomorrow. I'm due my period, so not sure what's actually what, cough aside!

If tomorrow is day three, it can't really get any worse, can it?

Utter shit but peaked about day 5

chikp · 27/11/2022 21:46

And period went haywire for months

gotmeagain · 27/11/2022 21:53

Was this before or after vaccines @chikp?

I've had it before and only had a cough. Think I'd had one or two vaccines by then. Now I've had three, but last one was December.

I had laryngitis severe enough I was unable to even wfh as I couldn't speak on the phone or in meetings. I had a slight chest and sinus infection and loss of smell and taste.

The worst was the tiredness. I slept for 12-14 minutes most nights, and this lingered for a week or so after testing negative and returning to work.

After 2 and a booster I've had it twice since then and the 2nd time was actually a much easier recover ly

Willowswood · 27/11/2022 22:02

I had covid in March 2020, so before the vaccines.

I was bedbound for 2 weeks. Vomiting regularly, could not walk to the bathroom without help, the worst cough I've had in my life, severe asthma (peak flow was 250). Could not brush my own hair (tried, and managed two pulls of the hairbrush before my daughter had to take over).

Temp of 40.0, delirious, arms and legs aching like never before. Feeling of helplessness.

And I was scared. Because this was unknown. Reports on TV of many many people dying.

So glad I've recovered and seem ok now.

That must have been terrifying. I'm sorry you were so scared, and so unwell.

Obviously I'm very lucky to be vaccinated.

I just wondered if I'm likely to feel better or worse tomorrow really, as I thought I was already on the mend until an hour or so ago.

People aren't getting really poorly with it these days. I'd say 4-5 days of feeling rough, then you'll be fine.

BibiThree · 27/11/2022 22:11

Hospitalised for 2 weeks (after 2 vaccines). Couldn't get out of bed, eat or even speak in full sentences, on breathing machines, left so weak I couldn't walk to the toilet when I got home, I had to be helped. Lost 70% of my hair 3 months later, still suffering with memory loss, joint pain, breathing difficulties and exhaustion 16 months later.
Wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

BibiThree · 27/11/2022 22:11

No prior health issues either.

ThatshallotBaby · 27/11/2022 22:14

I’ve just had it. I’ve now got sinusitis as a result, and it’s taking ages to go. Covid itself was odd, one good day one bad. Nasty headache and a few sweats. The sinusitis is awful.

user1464279374 · 27/11/2022 22:17

Literally just tested positive but think I've had it a few days. Started like a cold with sore throat. Now chesty cough and lungs feel like they're burning. Nothing else and have quite a bit of energy considering.

Is everyone isolating for 5 days now or is that out the window?

DimSumAndGT · 27/11/2022 22:19

@Willowswood same here, I could barely eat and became really underweight, I think it took me close to 9 months to fully recover. I think as well that mentally it was so I know and frightening it probably hindered my recovery as so stressed.

LaMariposa · 27/11/2022 22:19

Think I had it at the start of the month, round 4 if I did (didn’t test this time, but close contacts did and were positive)
A couple of days of feeling shivery and under the weather, sore throat, headache nasty chesty cough, burning sinuses and mild but not total loss of smell.
Three weeks on energy levels are back to normal and all that’s left is a thickly dry cough, sense of smell not 100% also not quite right

lockdownmummax · 27/11/2022 22:23

I had 3 vaccines when I tested positive, started with a barking cough as the only symptom ( tested for 3 days of the couch and kept getting negative ) positive on day 4, the cough was the worst, felt run down, lost my sense of taste and smell, symptoms went away after around a week!

I have anxiety around covid so felt breathless but put it down to my anxiety as my oxygen levels where fine

Hope you recover soon, plenty fluids and hot drinks for your cough, I found resting helped but taking intervals of walking around my house when I was feeling up to it as well

ThatshallotBaby · 27/11/2022 22:26

I’ve also had three vaccines and never had covid before, well knowingly.-9

Pinkypong · 27/11/2022 22:28

I’ve never felt so I’ll. Usually can get up for kids but just lay in bed. After 2 days got better slowly by 5 I was ok, not eating, but tired. The scary bit was suddenly getting a chest full of gunk that I couldn’t breathe through or cough through luckily it cleared but jolly scary. Sympathies to everyone that had it esp. in the early days.

SalcombeSunset · 27/11/2022 22:30

I tested positive 3 days ago but symptoms began a week ago. Started as a tickly throat, blocked sinuses and lost my voice. I get laryngitis regularly but then the body aches kicked in, felt ghastly, got the shivers, super low and teary, could barely get out of bed. Hacking cough, my lungs feel like someone has squeezed them to half the size. Symptoms easing today but feel so woozy and wiped out. Triple vaccinated but my first time having it.

TroysMammy · 27/11/2022 22:31

I'd had 3 vaccinations. I had a very slight sore throat which went within 3 days, a runny nose and total boredom for the 10 day isolation I had to abide by.

Badger1970 · 27/11/2022 22:39

I caught it last Christmas, literally days after having had my 3 vaccination Hmm I honestly felt like death, I had the worst headache I've ever had, profuse sweating, a sky high temperature, delirium and couldn't barely stand to get out of bed to go to the toilet. Lost all taste and sense of smell went weird, even now a year on things still don't smell right. I was in bed for 5 days, and then took around a further 8 weeks to fully recover and had 2 courses of antibiotics as well as an inhaler. My poor dogs had almost given up hope of ever having a decent walk again. I can honestly say that it's the poorliest I've ever been and that includes having had pneumonia.

DD had it at the same time, and ended up with a blood clot in her leg.

I think its optional bur frankly I felt so unwell I'd not be able to unisolate

chikp · 27/11/2022 22:42

What I would say OP is even when you feel "better" take it easy

meow1989 · 27/11/2022 22:44

March 22 - worse than a cold, not as bad as the flu. Ds (3 at the time) had it and you wouldn't have known!

Oct 22- 3 days of feeling dizzy tired and spaced, 0 respiratory symptoms and only positive for 2 days

LateMumma · 27/11/2022 22:44

I've had all the vaccinations as CEV, most recently beginning of Oct. Just getting over my third bout of it. This has been by far the worst, just feeling really ill. Tested positive last Tues and negative today, but still have joint pain and exhausted. Cough still quite bad and sinuses are hurting. The brain fog hasn't been as bad this time though

NotToBeShaked · 27/11/2022 22:53

Had it twice. Once pre-vacs and one after.

First time was late 2020. Lost taste and smell and had a headache. First day I slept for 24 hours on and off.
Second time was over this summer. Felt like a cold.

Honestly, the vaccines have been worse and I'm CEV due to having no immune system. However, my mum died of Covid so I know how serious.it is.
