You hate the smell of your new deodorant

Do you
a) use it up anyway
b) throw it away and buy a different one
c) put it in the cupboard for spare?

This came up for discussion yesterday, and most of my friends were amazed that I went for a. I'd feel far too guilty if I threw it away, and c is basically just junking it without actually using the bin.

There was one lone voice for d) Stop using deodorant altogether, but we shouted hi down.

Give it away

Saucery · 27/11/2022 15:32

I’d do b) but I wouldn’t be amazed at someone doing a)

purplewolfie · 27/11/2022 15:33

I'd give it to husband!

Turquoisa80 · 27/11/2022 15:34

I always do a, if I dislike a beauty product or anything even decaf coffee I bought recently, il use it up anyway. Its a waste otherwise

flooflo · 27/11/2022 15:34

I'd put mine in the toilets at work for other people to use, or give it to my mum or friend if they don't mind it

zighead · 27/11/2022 15:34

a for sure. I am sure I'd get used to it in time and hate wasting money.

NuffSaidSam · 27/11/2022 15:35

I'd give it to someone who does like the smell.

I use an unscented one, avoids this problem.

Blowyourowntrumpet · 27/11/2022 15:35

I'd use it anyway and just not buy it again

pelagra · 27/11/2022 15:35

Ah, but it was DH who suggested d), so that option was closed to me. I can't think of anyone else close enough to offer one slightly used cream deodorant.

If it's a cream/roll on, then it has to go in the bin. Spray one could have been rehomed.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 27/11/2022 15:41

If I only disliked the smell, I'd probably use it. I've had a couple where something makes me feel faintly nauseous so those get binned (as roll-ons so not sure anyone would want a used one!).

I only buy clean-smelling ones - nothing floral, fruity or musky - so it's unlikely I'd dislike the smell generally.

greenacrylicpaint · 27/11/2022 15:42

a
or c, if I need a spare at the office for example.

I hate waste.

ChristmasCakeAndStilton · 27/11/2022 15:43

A for me.

If you handed me a partially used deodorant, I'd bin it.

Theredfoxfliesatmidnight · 27/11/2022 15:45

I have recently had this, and did (a), as I'm a skinflint!! The deodorant was a foreign one and the scent was lemon. Except it wasn't sweet zesty lemon, it was sour acrid lemon. Which kind of smells a bit like BO? Anyway I used it on "home" days to use it up.

hotelpink · 27/11/2022 16:09

Probably b.

A is a no because I'm autistic and have a highly sensitive nose, I wouldn't be able to tolerate something I didn't like the smell of.

C is a no because i would never use it and hate clutter.

I see the suggesting by some that you could give it to someone else but I don't really have anyone I could give it to.

JoanThursday · 27/11/2022 16:13

I'd keep it just in case. My go-to Mitchum is like gold dust right now. Who knows when I might need an emergency deodorant?!

Sandysandwich · 27/11/2022 16:17

I would C,
Wouldn't want to use it because I dont want to smell of something I don't like.
But keep it incase I run out or lose my normal one, because I would still rather smell like a deodorant that I dont like over no deodorant at all.

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 27/11/2022 16:19

C. I have done similar, not because of smell but because I tried a cheap one and found it not very long-lasting (but better than nothing) - so suitable as an emergency spare.

BCBird · 27/11/2022 16:20

I would stop wearing it full stop. Woukd nit dream of giving an open deodorant to someone. The one I have at the moment smells like Biscoff. 🤣

erikbloodaxe · 27/11/2022 16:29

I'd just bin it. Life is too short to hang on to stuff you don't like/want/need. If it was £25 a go fair enough I'd consider it wasteful, a couple of quid meh....... in the bin it'd go.

Climbie · 27/11/2022 16:31

90% of those I hate give me a migraine so I vote b.

Life is much better without cupboards cluttered up with spares. Either use it or bin it.

ZiggyAndChanelle · 27/11/2022 16:34

C! because I’d be glad I’d kept it when I realise I’ve run out one morning. If it caused a reaction or something I’d give it to a friend (yes even a roll on, we’re not fussy about things like that)

thelobsterquadrille · 27/11/2022 16:39

I'd just see if DH wanted it. If not, I'd keep it for emergencies.

rosegoldwatcher · 27/11/2022 16:43

C - but it might be in the cupboard for years!

I always buy Dove Invisible; a few months ago it wasn't available in store or on line so I had to have the Sure equivalent.
I could smell it on me!

thecatsthecats · 27/11/2022 16:44

D) even though the smell literally makes me feel sick and gives me a headache, keep hold of it die to environmental guilt.
