Do you get the Sunday night misery about your job?

I have this year. I'm doing 2 jobs because we can't recruit and feel quite shaky from stress. I used to love my job. If you don't get the Sunday night misery, what job do you do?

I used to get this and it was a definite sign to look for a new job.

rainbowstardrops · 27/11/2022 08:56

I used to. Sundays always felt like there was a black cloud hanging over me and it could really spoil the day. My role changed hugely and then I'd wake up in the early hours actually dreading going in.

So I handed my notice in as I figured life is too short to be that unhappy in a job.

I'm 'lucky' enough to be able to afford to take a few months out whilst I consider my options but that's only because I'm unlucky enough to have lost both my dear mum and dad and have some money from their house.

Me, I work in education directly for the LA. Just waiting to pass my vetting then I’m off to the probation service but it’s taking foreverrrrr. I start to get that feeling of dread about Monday on Thursday…

I run my own business and love my job but when I'm burnt out I still get that Sunday night feeling. Hated school growing up etc etc so it's those kind of feelings resurfacing and usually a sign I need a break or to slow down (and maybe not work at weekends!!).

But when feel fresh and balanced I don't feel it.

PupInAPram · 27/11/2022 09:08

Yep, when I'm doing just my own job I'm quite happy. Trying to do 2 jobs is burning me out to the point where I may need to walk away from both roles for the sake of my health.

I used to get it so badly it started I a Saturday morning. Entirely down to my utter wanker of a boss.

I resigned with no job to go to and it was the best decision I ever made. Worst working 3 months of my life.

My current job isn't amazing for different reasons but I'm not scared of it, or massively anxious, and I don't hate the people

TheChosenTwo · 27/11/2022 09:11

I used to with my old school job. Changed paths a few months ago and now wfh on a Monday Tuesday and Wednesday and it’s lovely. Admin based and in the office at the end of the week which is lovely because I still get to see people and by the time I have to get up a bit earlier to travel into the office it’s nearly the weekend.
Knowing on a Sunday that the weekend is almost over but I can wfh for the next 3 days has been revolutionary.

dubyalass · 27/11/2022 09:12

My role changed hugely and then I'd wake up in the early hours actually dreading going in.

This has just happened to me. Had no choice, just reassigned full time to another role that I never would have chosen and it's causing me sleepless nights. It's temporary but I can see myself feeling miserable on Sunday evenings for the foreseeable. I don't want to look for a new job because I have some training next year that I really want to do and will lead to better things.

hopeishere · 27/11/2022 09:16

A bit but to be honest working from home really helped. I think it was more the running about collecting kids etc that made me stressful than the actual job!

Blankscreen · 27/11/2022 09:17

Yep starts Sunday morning here 😫😫😫

Typo22 · 27/11/2022 09:19

I used to in my previous role, I was miserable and to be honest I cried before every shift. Then I moved to a different department and it's like a different world. I don't dread work on a Sunday night or feel sad after having time off and needing to go back.
It was one of the best things I've ever done.

Bobbybobbins · 27/11/2022 09:22

Yes, secondary teacher!

Bobbybobbins · 27/11/2022 09:22

Yes, secondary teacher!

Me too! I went to 80% with a Monday off because the dread had shifted to Saturday. It helped, but not entirely.

Tess3 · 27/11/2022 09:38

I absolutely hated being at school and used to get that sinking feeling when i heard the theme tune to heart beat 😅 I always worked different jobs that were shifts to avoid this for decades then got a promotion in current job which ment monday to friday weekends off. I don't suffer them at the moment but workload is getting worse and harder to cope with so i suspect they might come again soon enough.

BrutusMcDogface · 27/11/2022 09:45

My Sunday feelings of misery are mainly linked to just how much crap (school work, six people’s laundry, tidying, meal planning and prep etc) needs doing before starting the working week, and the knowledge that the list will grow exponentially tomorrow morning.

Ragwort · 27/11/2022 09:46

No - I genuinely love my job and am working today - by choice Grin.

theydontspeakforus · 27/11/2022 09:49

I love my job - and working from home has made my life immeasurably better. Like a PP, I think the Monday morning stress of sorting everything out etc was worse than the job anxiety!!

PupInAPram · 27/11/2022 09:50

@Ragwort if you don't mind me asking, what do you do?

OP posts:
BrutusMcDogface · 27/11/2022 09:54

Oh yes @Ragwort , please share! 😁

Fleabigg · 27/11/2022 09:56

I don’t now but I have at other times when we’ve been very understaffed or there have been specific pressures. My role is (currently!) on a pretty even keel so I know roughly what’s going to be facing me on a Monday morning and that makes all the difference for me.

Noname99 · 27/11/2022 09:57

Yes me too. Unsurprisingly education too.

DancingWithYouInTheSummerRain · 27/11/2022 09:59

I've already got the Sunday blues, and I've got tomorrow off 😔

CanYouFeelMyHeart · 27/11/2022 09:59

Nope, absolutely love my job, love my team, it's hard but awesome.

My old job however...it got so bad I was signed off for 8 weeks. Thank god they made me redundant really.

No job is worth your health or your happiness.

Hoppinggreen · 27/11/2022 09:59

I have in the past but not in my current job.
I am actually off tomorrow but will probably do a couple of tasks because I want to know what’s going on (it’s no expected)

TeddyTed · 27/11/2022 10:02

No I’m not getting this at the moment, I am in a job I generally do like. I am covering two roles as well and I feel your pain op. However, like you the situation has happened through no fault of my own (recruitment issues) and I figure that if something goes wrong because of workloads, I’ll have done my very best in any case and I don’t think I could be blamed for it - that does make me feel a lot better about things.
