Do you get the Sunday night misery about your job?

PupInAPram · 27/11/2022 08:50

I have this year. I'm doing 2 jobs because we can't recruit and feel quite shaky from stress. I used to love my job. If you don't get the Sunday night misery, what job do you do?

I get it because I have to get up and go to work. I don't dread the actual work though and generally enjoy my job. I'm a supply teacher and I think the fact that I'm usually in a different place almost every time I go to work helps.

Ragwort · 27/11/2022 10:07

It's the sort of job everyone sneers at and is incredibly badly paid - I manage a charity shop Grin. I am lucky in that at my age I no longer need to work to pay the mortgage or childcare and can afford to retire if I want so that does give me a very different perspective. Raising funds for a charity I am passionate about gives me a lot of pleasure.

My ( now ex) husband loved Antiques Roadshow. Hearing the first few bars of that bloody music filled me with the most horrendous soul crushing dread. It began as soon as I woke up on a Sunday but hearing that vile theme tune only confirmed what I'd been thinking all day.. it will soon be Monday and you'll be back in that hell hole. I do a different job now and love it. If I do happen to hear that theme tune nowadays it's like water off a ducks back!!

pinkhousesarebest · 27/11/2022 10:10

Yes, teacher.
I work all day Sunday to prepare my week.
Counting the days until I can get out.

Remona · 27/11/2022 10:10

Me too. I’ve got that I absolutely hate Sundays. The black cloud is hanging over me all day, not just in the evening. It’s awful.

Lovelycupofcoffee · 27/11/2022 10:17

Good yes can relate to this . I work in sales (it hardware) . I got offered another job a while ago but didn’t take it due to the driving required. Now I’m thinking I should have just left . I’m so unhappy 😞 took last week off and it was lovely. I am dreading going back tomorrow

Lovelycupofcoffee · 27/11/2022 10:19

Sorry I meant god yes

thecatsthecats · 27/11/2022 10:21

No. But then I am both setting up my own business and applying for jobs as a back up.

They don't know that I'm so far out the door I'm practically waving from the airport.

balalake · 27/11/2022 10:23

I used to, and for that reason tried my best to be out on a Sunday evening. Over the years many different things, gym, comedy club (where I used to live), choosing Sundays to visit my grandmother (who died a while ago), local pub with friends.

I can relate to the OPs feelings. Why I don't have them any more is as with working from home most of the week, at least the start of the working week is without a journey.

TwilightSkies · 27/11/2022 10:27

Yep I know that feeling. Had it many times with various jobs over the years.
But I love my job now and look forward to going in everyday. I work for Citizens Advice. I help people everyday, my team is great and it’s not stressful. Money isn’t great but you can’t have it all!

WonderingWanda · 27/11/2022 10:29

It comes and goes for me. I'm a teacher. Can't even really say what triggers it. Currently I just think work feels a but like a long climb up a steep hill post covid.

FrownedUpon · 27/11/2022 10:33

I used to when I was a teacher. Not anymore though. Wfh definitely helps.

purpleviolet1987 · 27/11/2022 10:35

Only because I have to wake up early, do the school run, etc. actually being at work is fine & goes by fast.

Work is my only break... :/

DeNiroDeFaro · 27/11/2022 10:39

Nope, I love my job!!! Am going to sit today and do some stats training that'll make me better at it, because I want to keep growing in this career Grin also pays quite well which helps!

username8888 · 27/11/2022 10:45

My ex husband would wind himself up all day and have a screaming 2 hour tantrum aimed at hurting me as much as he could. Apparently it made him feel better. Divorcing him made me feel better.

Bronzeisthecolour · 27/11/2022 10:45

Yes reacher so Sunday is work at home and emails start flooding in causing stress for the Monday and week to come- not enjoying it at all and honestly might resign and do supply/ tutoring etc if I can earn enough.....

thelobsterquadrille · 27/11/2022 10:46

Nope. I love my job.

I used to get in previous jobs though - never a good sign IMO.

clary · 27/11/2022 10:48

When I was a full time secondary teacher I really got this.

Now I work as a copyeditor, which i love, and also tutor part time, which i also love. No fear abd dread here. Life is way too short for that.

PupInAPram · 27/11/2022 10:53

@username8888 good for you! Bad enough getting the misery about your own job.

Eddielizzard · 27/11/2022 10:53

I used to have a brief respite on Friday evening when I got home from work. Then the anxiety used to start up on Saturday morning again, dreading Monday.

Now I'm self employed. I still get anxious, but it's nowhere near as bad.

Good luck, is awful to feel this way Flowers

ScrabbleChamp64 · 27/11/2022 10:54

Used to get it terribly when I was teaching. It was awful.

In my current job (local government), I still get it sometimes but if I can work my calendar to WFH on Monday it doesn’t happen.

I can’t ALWAYS work from home on Mondays because I have to meet business need but I try to do it wherever possible because it helps a lot to ease into the week

lurchermummy · 27/11/2022 10:58

I don't, self employed and enjoy work. But I do still get that Friday feeling, not working is still better than working!

Indeed. They don’t call it “going to fun” for a reason!

Oblomov22 · 27/11/2022 11:02

Once. I had a dream accounts job at a pharmaceutical company. I dreaded it on Sunday nights. I cried in the toilets at work. So I handed in my notice, with immediate effect.

Never again.

MummyInTheNecropolis · 27/11/2022 11:05

Not usually, no, I really love my job (primary school teacher). I have it a bit today though only because I have a really rotten cold and feel like crap. Not bad enough to take time off, but bad enough to feel overwhelmed at the thought of an exhausting day of teaching.
