What do you have for lunch on a weekend?

Just that really!
Do you just have a normal sandwich or something a bit more special? If so, what?

No set thing - just either whatever I fancy or whatever there is leftover or that needs using up. I don't want to go to a heaving supermarket on a weekend.

Today I've had am unhealthy brunch of a maple and pecan plait with a hot drink.

Later I'm planning on making up a carrot and coriander soup as the bag of carrots needs using. We have chicken leftover too and lots of veg in the fridge so I'll probably do a stir fry or a creamy pasta bake with that lot for dinner and tomorrow.

Not very glamorous but I don't tend to treat the weekend differently food-wise.

SpottyStripyDuvet · 26/11/2022 14:04

Yes we have "special" sandwiches like egg mayonnaise or tuna mayonnaise i.e. things I can't be arsed to make in the week.

IncompleteSenten · 26/11/2022 14:05

Today I had a bowl of cereal and enough satsumas to put me on the loo for a week 😁

GreenLeavesRustling · 26/11/2022 14:06

On a miserable day like today I quite often make a big hearty soup in the instant pot. Makes the house smell lovely and fills us up!

2Rebecca · 26/11/2022 14:07

Very variable, often more of a brunch and just 2 meals on a weekend. Today soup

Kam610 · 26/11/2022 14:10

We usually just have brunch at the weekend. Will sometimes have a bacon sandwich or bacon and eggs. Or sometimes will make pancakes, bacon and maple syrup.

VitaminX · 26/11/2022 14:18

9/10 times we have bread/toast with something (cheese, ham, egg, tuna mayo, peanut butter) and fruit and salad vegetables. Occasionally will do breakfast food - bacon, eggs, beans etc.

Today we had bread with tuna mayo, apple and red pepper. So no, nothing special. I can never be bothered to make a big thing about lunch and I certainly wouldn't cook anything specially for lunch apart from throwing something in a frying pan.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 26/11/2022 14:46

Soup and a sandwich. Or something on toast like hummous or sardines.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 26/11/2022 14:47

I just had scrambled eggs in toast.
I never an lunch I just make what I can out if what's there

Honeybirds87 · 26/11/2022 14:50

A cheese, onion and ham toastie. I consider it a bit too calorific during the week

crazycycle · 26/11/2022 14:52

We have recently had some of those part baked rolls you put in the oven at home, with a can of soup of choice. Went down very well with DC and made a change.

Otherwise omelette, something on toast or bacon sandwiches or similar

What do your ‘unspecial’ sandwiches consist of?

mamacattiva · 26/11/2022 14:53

I make a more fancier salad than usual, throughout the week I’ll have some kind of boring tuna or chicken salad but today I made one with sweet chilli salmon fish cakes. I like to have avocado and egg on toast for a weekend lunch too.

Uncalled for

We usually have a cooked breakfast as Brunch on Sundays (occasionally Saturday).

PinkSyCo · 26/11/2022 14:58

I usually skip lunch on a Saturday so that I’m nice and hungry for my weekly takeaway. On Sunday I’ll eat the remains of said takeaway. 😋

For us: spreads like peanut butter, jam, chocolate or ham or cheese.
I'd agree with PP that tuna or egg mayo are more 'special' as they require more prep. Also bacon or sausage as they need cooking.

Hoppinggreen · 26/11/2022 14:59

If we are at home I make soup most Saturdays

Uncalled for

Why? I’m genuinely interested.

RightBackAtYa · 26/11/2022 15:03

Really @PinkSyCo ? I think you sounded rude
To answer your question @christmasandsnowflakes we have either something on toast or go to town and have party food and a glass of wine. It usually depends if its warm enough to sit outside

Opening a tin of tuna and mixing it with mayonnaise doesn’t involve any more prep than slicing/shredding cheese, does it?

ChubbyCapybara · 26/11/2022 15:06

We often make a simple pasta, with either homemade pesto, cherry tomato sauce or lentil Bolognese. Hearty, ready in 20 minutes and goes down well with our toddler.
We often go out for late brunch/lunch one day out of two, after a nice walk in the park.

TeddyTed · 26/11/2022 15:08

Normally cheese and ham toasties, which I wouldn’t make in the week. Today we had a treat and had a cooked breakfast, which was a nice idea but I felt totally full and sick after it. 🙁

stuntbubbles · 26/11/2022 15:14

What my parents always call “bread and cheese”: so you lay the table with a loaf of bread, cheeseboard, bowl of posh crisps – for true parental vibes get the unsalted ones, hummus, sardines, many many many tiny bowls of leftover things (sometimes no more than a tablespoonful – eg a single vine leaf, a couple of spoons of some kind of homemade beans), jars of chutneys and pickles, gherkins, and some lettuce leaves or cherry tomatoes.

Sometimes lentil or black bean soup, or beans on toast, or as pp, egg sandwiches, which I’d never bother to make in the week.

But mostly “bread and cheese” which is invariably more filling than it sounds if you spend the week filling your fridge with the many many tiny bowls.
