Nervous about using Vinted!

Any Vinted experts out there?

Just uploaded the app and added two items. One of them though, I got a message, see below, saying they'd brought the item, but then when I click on the link it gives me a message saying not to leave Vinted, then appears to take me back to a Vinted page, then asks for my debit card details which I feel uncomfortable adding. What's going on! Is this normal?

Thank you xx

It’s a scam

bookworm1982 · 26/11/2022 07:29

Thank you, thought so 😩 the message has actually disappeared now. What a shame, don't want to use it now ☹️

Definitely a scam. When someone buys something, you’ll get a proper notification from Vinted itself and a link to download the postage label.

The forum on Vinted itself is really helpful for a newbie, and they’ve got a whole pinned section about scammers and what to look out for.

Changingplace · 26/11/2022 07:32

Yeah that doesn’t look right at all, don’t click anything or enter any details & report to Vinted.

GnarlyOldGoatDude · 26/11/2022 07:32

@bookworm1982 don’t give up! I’m fairly new to Vinted (couple of months) but have found it great for clearing out clothes and toys. I’ve also bought a few things at a great price.

I would be very, very reluctant to sell anything or value there though. The customer service when things go wrong/ missing is pretty dreadful; they’re very hard to contact in a timely fashion.

GnarlyOldGoatDude · 26/11/2022 07:34

Also I wouldn’t buy anything expensive on there! Scammers selling all sorts of “too good to be true” high value items.

always look at people’s reviews, and scammers often have funny made up names with lots of numbers, and are selling multiples of the same item.

LickYouLikeACrispPacket · 26/11/2022 07:37

I’ve just started selling on Vinted a few weeks ago and I LOVE IT! I got a similar message on the first day so I think some people realise you’re new and try to scam.
Just stick to the buyers who pay on Vinted and you’ll be grand. All your notifications tell you when they have paid etc so just follow that. I’ve made about £100 in a week selling things that have sat around in my wardrobe and cupboards!
Don’t be put off. 🙂

I'm on Vinted selling really high quality unworn stuff for ridiculous prices!

Not a scammer at all. Just a dick who bought some high end clothes then decided too late that they did not suit.

AHelpfulHand · 26/11/2022 08:02

I’ve made £850 in 3 months selling on vinted

bookworm1982 · 26/11/2022 11:49

Thanks everyone. I guess it's cause I'm new, they tried their luck but it got removed. I'll stick to it!! Xxx

Thank you all for the tips!

unless something was really cheap, I’d only buy from people who have good star ratings. So check out a few of those first. I’ve got some great stuff on vinted but there is also a lot of shite on there too. Just be specific in your searches so you’re not trawling through pages of second had primark stuff

BrilliantGreenFlamingo · 26/11/2022 11:52

Sorry, missed off the first line of your paragraph saying you’re selling! Silly me. Buyers also have reviews tho.

thismeansnothing · 26/11/2022 12:06

That is a scam.

When something's sold you get a notification in vinted and email too. And you'll also get a link to download and print a postage label (if they've chosen evri), otherwise details of an address if they've chosen royal mail.

I was dubious, but it's been fab and tons more reliable to sell the kids outgrown clothes compared to fbook marketplace

Amboseli · 26/11/2022 12:09

I've just signed up to vinted. Wondering how do you charge for postage?

Claudia84 · 26/11/2022 12:13

The postage gets bought by the buyer - you choose parcel size and then the pay for it. When something sells you'll get a link to download the postage label.

Unless they choose royal mail (as a seller I provide this option). I've only had 1/2 people use it but as the seller I pay the postage and it gets reimbursed along with their payment when they say they have the item

Claudia84 · 26/11/2022 14:07

Ah, I didn't realise that. I don't think I've ever had that selected!

Amboseli · 26/11/2022 17:21

Thank you. So you have to weigh the item and measure the package size etc?

tigerbear · 26/11/2022 17:26

@Amboseli i never have measured or weighed anything. There’s a guide on there when you upload something for sale, and it’ll give the option of what size package to choose.

Vinted is great. I run my business through eBay, but have been selling some of my own stuff on vinted...it's a much better platform. The only downside is it can take a bit of time to get your money, but otherwise it's so easy. Don't forget when you list that the buyer is paying £3-5 on top for a cheap item, so you need to price accordingly to sell.

Amboseli · 26/11/2022 18:39

@tigerbear @amylou8 thanks for the tips and info. Now I just need to get off my backside and do it!

You mean they're paying 3-5 on top for delivery? Xx

GnarlyOldGoatDude · 29/11/2022 08:01

@bookworm1982 yes that’s correct. Even for a small item, the cheapest postage is about £2 minimum, and there’s also a variable buyer protection fee that buyers have to pay which costs a % of the sale price.

so even if you are selling a super cheap item at £1 (the minimum price you can sell for), the buyer will likely be paying at least an extra £3 on top.

New buyers do get their first purchase postage for free I believe.
