Students are cold! Heated throw recommendations

My house is freezing. I do put the heating on, but less than I used to as my monthly bill is now 3 x. I regularly have foreign students stay for short periods and they tend to stay in their rooms, sitting at their desks and studying for hours on end. I will of course put the heating on for them, but I simply cannot let it be on all day, or it will end up costing me more to have the students in the first place. Anyway, I was wondering if a compromise might be a heated throw they can put over the shoulders/back. Is a heated throw the same as an electric blanket? They're so expensive too!!

I think it's up to your student guests to pay for their own clothes. Unless your house is below 18 degrees, they just need to buy a couple of decent sweaters and some woolly socks.

If you cannot afford to keep your house at 18 degrees, then you should be charging more for them to stay.

They can buy their own heated throw? Or charge them more for the bills?

I agree, there is no point in arsing round with heated throws. It will be c9ld during the day, same as most people. They could go to the library during the day to work presumably. As long as it's warm in the mornings and evenings.

What about something like this www.onlinehomeshop.com/ohs-electric-heated-oversized-hoodie-blanket-charcoal I think it's charged via USB.
My husband has a heated gillet that works the same. I have bought several bit from this company and they are good value.

I sit on a heated throw to wfh. Makes it quite comfortable even if the house is at 18, which would feel freezing for wfh without the heated throw

A heated throw makes such a difference. I have a Dreamland one, it feels lovely and thick and heats up very quickly.

My daughter has a Beurer one which is great.
Does the contract with the language school (?) specify anything about adequate heating? Have any of your lodgers complained they are cold?
How much are you earning weekly? The school I work for pays host families £125 pp pw.

Surely your guests should be getting a warm and livable environment for their money.
