?? (Assuming it's not some kind of emergency).

It depends on if you know them and what the circumstances are.

Amazon and some couriers deliver up to 10.00pm

Witheringheights83 · 23/11/2022 09:57

You don't know them. It's a delivery.

9pm

ifonly4 · 23/11/2022 10:27

Either way, can you let them know roughly what time it'll be. Depending on who they are, they might not want to answer the phone door if they're on their own and not expecting anyone.

Sparklingbrook · 23/11/2022 10:29

Can we have some more context? Have you got a parcel for a neighbour ?

girlmom21 · 23/11/2022 10:30

If they give you warning they're coming - so Amazon or DPD - 10pm is fine. I think Amazon do until 11 at Xmas.

If you don't have notification, 7pm is the latest for me.

Suzi888 · 23/11/2022 10:33

When the lights are off.

This. And if it's a delivery they might be waiting up for it?

NoSquirrels · 23/11/2022 10:58

9.30-10pm? Later than that I’d expect a warning.

Witheringheights83 · 23/11/2022 11:41

It was a delivery which came at 10.45pm last night. We were all in bed (bit early for us but with a sick child). The man knocked really loudly 3 times. It woke me up and I peeped down through the curtains to see him staring up at the bedroom window. It was a bit startling and it was just a normal delivery which I wasn't specifically expecting at that time. I don't understand why he needed to knock so loudly 3 times or stare up at the window at that time of night - it would have been obvious we were either out or in bed.

Also he had loud music blaring from his car which was antisocial.

The company didn't give you a delivery date?

I don't know, if I'd ordered something and it was being delivered I'd not really mind how late it was delivered, but generally they email with an ETA. Do these delivery people have targets to get the parcels out-and it's a busy time at the moment.

Witheringheights83 · 23/11/2022 11:50

No it was just a normal delivery, which said it would arrive before 28th. No specific timeframe given. I would not have agreed to that time if it had been offered.

That's strange, there's usually an opportunity to track the delivery at least. Well they delivered it well before the 28th so that's a plus.

2pinkginsplease · 23/11/2022 11:52

9pm is the latest I will open my door unless someone has messaged previously to say they are coming over later.

In that situation I would definitely be complaining to the courier. 10.45pm is ridiculous for deliveries.

Sparklingbrook · 23/11/2022 11:53

I just look out of the upstairs window and see who it is.

Not answering the door is a MN Olympic sport though. Grin

RamblingFar · 23/11/2022 11:56

Tesco and Amazon both deliver to 11pm around here.

CookedandDried · 23/11/2022 11:57

I know deliveries can go up to 10pm but I've rarely had one after 8pm - never after 9pm. I think 10:45 is ridiculous. I would have been asleep as well.

I was brought up in an area where 9pm was the limit for knocking - this was before later deliveries though.

Same here but both of those would give an ETA.

RuthW · 23/11/2022 12:02

Totally depends how on the reason.

justanotherthrowawayname · 23/11/2022 12:04

I'd accept a delivery up until 11pm, but only if I was expecting it.

You could have just given those details in the OP.

Many deliveries now seem to be done by private individuals taking on piece work. I guess they are not as good at time planning.

It was too late, but he was probably staring up to see if any lights were on.

Black Friday / pre Christmas deliveries will be under pressure now, and I guess there will be more of this sort of thing.

User13579367337 · 23/11/2022 12:12

It depends on the circumstances. I wouldn’t be happy with that. But perhaps hes working double shifts or going away this week and this was his only chance. Didn’t you get a card to go collect it?

Sparklingbrook · 23/11/2022 12:14

I was asleep

He woke you up-did you go and accept the delivery?
