After what time of night is it too late to knock on someone's door?

?? (Assuming it's not some kind of emergency).

You could have just given those details in the OP.

Many deliveries now seem to be done by private individuals taking on piece work. I guess they are not as good at time planning.

It was too late, but he was probably staring up to see if any lights were on.

Black Friday / pre Christmas deliveries will be under pressure now, and I guess there will be more of this sort of thing.

Our local FB page is full of photos of people's porches/coal bunkers etc with the recipient trying to find out who they belong to as that's where their package ended up. Sad I think there's something to be said for safely receiving a delivery at the moment.

I'd hate that. 9pm would be my absolute cut off (but would prefer before 7) unless I had prebooked a time slot eg Tesco delivery (and I wouldn't book that late).
I go to bed at 9.30-10 and would be mad if they woke me or the kids up.

9pm. I've never had a delivery later than that here and wouldn't want one. I like to go to bed early when I can.

8pm for me!

Sparklingbrook · 23/11/2022 12:25

i think if you have an absolute cut off time-you need a little sign by your doorbell.

carefulcalculator · 23/11/2022 12:37

I would find that too late, but presumably the delivery firm employing him allow it.

myfatisgettingfatter · 23/11/2022 12:54

I'd have thanked him and tell him " hope you get home soon "
Go back to sleep .. no big deal

Dontaskdontget · 23/11/2022 13:06

I’d say 9pm.

10.45 is ridiculous.

I did notice last yr tho in run up to xmas Amazon seem to change what their delivery drivers do and treat all of their deliveries as if they’re super urgent.

I wish Amazon has a box you could tick when ordering which means “I’m buying this item but there is no rush, please chill out and deliver normally”

It really wasn't anything Christmassy or anything to do with Black Friday.

I did not answer the door no. I awoke as he was knocking extremely loudly and was a bit scared of who it could be. No way was I going down there alone in my pjs!

He left the parcel on the doorstep anyway.

I just wondered if IABU thinking it was too late.

I would have thought 9pm as a cut off. 10.45 is very late!

MintJulia · 23/11/2022 13:36

9pm.

DarkAndDusty · 23/11/2022 13:37

I'd be complaining about that. Was it Amazon? Their policy says latest delivery time is 10pm

BobbyBobbyBobby · 23/11/2022 13:41

We have a sign on the door with instructions where to leave parcels (safe place).

It’s great until we get the occasional foreign Amazon driver who appears not to speak or read English (heaven knows how they operate a day jab and read road signs) and they will knock on the door.

We had one recently who walked past the safe space and entered our back garden and opened a storage chest after knocking to the floor a couple of buckets used as water collectors which were weighing the lid down.

He shoved the parcel in big left half hanging out and the lid raised so that the following downpour soaked the contents of the chest.

Only gardening stuff and nothing permanently damaged but I complained about him trespassing and got £50 compensation as he did not follow the delivery instructions and leave in the specified safe place.
