If I don’t get out for a walk every day, I start feeling unwell, but this rain doesn’t stop feels like it’s lasted weeks

It must have only been days but it’s so heavy and goes in all day

I’ve found since lockdown I’ve got a bit hooked on a daily walk

I like a daily walk. DD and I go rain or shine. I recently got a new waterproof which is great. It’s the cold I’m now finding!

Friolero · 23/11/2022 08:24

I agree, its good to get out for a walk every day, but this rain is just relentless.

I have to go out to walk the children to school so tend to get out whatever the weather but it's so miserable at the moment that I'm finding I'm literally just doing the school run and then home again.

Hope the rain stops for long enough for you to get out today.

Skinnermarink · 23/11/2022 08:24

You have another post about this.

MissBattleaxe · 23/11/2022 08:25

I'm a big fan of a daily walk. It completely uplifts me and I love seeing the neighbourhood change in the seasons from big flower beds and blossom to Autumn and Christmas lights.

I just stick a hat on and wear different shoes in the rain. It still feels good.

Eileen101 · 23/11/2022 08:26

Same - invest in a good waterproof and you'll not look back. I've not been able to get out over the last few days, not became of the weather, but work pressures and I'm definitely feeling it as the walk would have assisted with how I'm feeling!
I recommend paramo waterproofs 👌 a bit pricier, but ours are going strong for about the 15th year.

Cornishmarketingtithead · 23/11/2022 08:27

Same! We have strong winds in Cornwall that means hoods and brollies are useless.

I feel low and anxious without a daily walk!

HeadNorth · 23/11/2022 08:29

I have horses so I am out everyday seeing to them whatever the weather. It sets me up for the day. I could not cope with an entire day spent inside, I need some fresh air everyday.

caroleanboneparte · 23/11/2022 08:31

I know how you feel!

I've bought more wet weather clothes so I can just go out regardless. I resign myself to having to change when I get in.

fnfnf · 23/11/2022 08:32

I always get out for at least one walk a day (have to get my 10,000 steps in - yes, I know that's actually pretty meaningless, but it's nice to have an aim!). Weather doesn't bother me; I live in Scotland so am used to 4 seasons in a day.

BarbaraofSeville · 23/11/2022 08:40

I'm another one who bought a decent coat, and already have a range of waterproof walking shoes and boots, so the rain wouldn't put me off.

Being a good Mumsnetter, I got a Didriksons parka in the sale a couple of years ago. If you can afford the outlay (mine was £130, but reduced from £180-200) it's really worth the investment as it keeps me dry (I didn't get a padded one and just layer up if needed) and will last for years.

I think it's aimed at Swedish mums doing the school run on foot and their weather is a lot worse than ours.

greenacrylicpaint · 23/11/2022 08:49

yes to a good waterproof coat (and shoes!)

outdoor stores are great for that
decathlon has decent stuff that's reasonably priced.
(voucher for decathlon for christmas?)

and just go out anyway. maybe have a hot chocolate orBrew as a reward afterwards.

nomoreflyingducks · 23/11/2022 09:06

Good waterproofs and welly boots. Doggo needs a good walk daily, my walking coat wasn't cheap but I've had it 10+ years and it's coped with full on downpours and high winds. Had to replace the hood a few times, but otherwise keeps me completely dry.

ShinyHatStand · 23/11/2022 09:08

Hoods really annoy me but I have a lovely fleece beanie that copes with all but the worst weather.

Ladyofthelake53 · 23/11/2022 09:11

Just spent 5 days in bed with flu and yesterday was relieved we had nice weather so went out to beach cafe with dogs and sat outside in the sun with a cup of tea and a cheese toastie, was bliss to feel the sun.

Woke up today pissing down and blowing a hooley. Crap

Ladyofthelake53 · 23/11/2022 09:11

So dark grey and depressing

bloodyeverlastinghell · 23/11/2022 09:12

I like to go for a walk in the woods when the weather is bad, even with the leaves gone there is a microclimate so it doesn't feel as wet or windy. As PP good boots and a coat.

Fuwari · 23/11/2022 09:18

I’m happy I don’t need a daily walk. I did got to the local shop yesterday, but it wasn’t raining then. Today it is and I will happily stay indoors. A couple of weeks ago I had a visitor and was somewhat forced into going for a long walk in the wind/rain. Ended up with the flu! (Maybe it was covid, I didn’t test). Took me a week to get over it and still coughing and sniffly now. No thank you. Happy to be indoors and not sick!

being outdoors and getting temporarily cold doesn't make you sick!

FourChimneys · 23/11/2022 09:29

Another daily walker here. I aim for at least 3 miles but it is often more. I don't mind any weather unless it is very hot.

I have a whole range of suitable waterproofs, boots, shoes and hats.

I hate being indoors all day, it makes me feel stale.

eveoha · 23/11/2022 09:30

I gave up I was developing barnacles in this rain - so got a treadmill 👍🏿☘️

Sou’wester. My OH says it’s terrific, plus of course you can fantasise about being a heroic skipper battling the storm against all odds

midgetastic · 23/11/2022 09:33

Good raincoat and go out and you feel better - walking in the rain can be fun

AnnPerkins · 23/11/2022 09:40

I walk the dog twice a day, rain or shine. Having the right clothes makes all the difference. I have some amazing neoprene wellies with sheepskin insoles which are comfortable enough to walk in for miles, and a cheap Regatta waterproof parka which I think cost about £25. It's quite long so my legs mostly stay dry and it's big enough to wear a sweatshirt or fleece under if it's cold.
The hood on the parka is a bit crap so I wear a rain hat.
It's not always easy to get out the door on miserable days but I always feel better for it.

GetOffTheRoof · 23/11/2022 09:43

You don't melt in rain.

Dress appropriately. Take an umbrella if it isn't windy. Accept you'll get wet and just go.

I have to take two dogs out umpteen times a day as they won't pee on the garden. You just suck it up and get on with it.

AlisonDonut · 23/11/2022 09:44

I like to do something in the garden every day. I did so last week in the pouring rain and it even soaked through my very warm padded coat. Which was most upsetting!

I go and get fresh wood from the woodshed as well every day. I love the fresh air and if I don't get it I don't feel good.

I'm out twice today, once to French lesson and once to Yoga. Pah! It is hammering it down and bloody cold today and I'm not looking forward to either. But still just about to wander round the garden first.
