Thank you for posting. The infant mortality is staggering and so sad. 27 poor buggers died of worms. So many illnesses here that we would not die of just minor irritations.

I’m pretty sure overlaid is still used. I have a recollection of reading it in a paper recently about overlaid statistics because it took me a second to work out what they meant.

In the past I’ve seen a list of reasons for women being admitted to Victorian asylums. I’m sure “lust” was one of them!

With all these unexplained deaths I.e planets you could literally get away with murder. Posion could easily pass for many of these. Especially with lack of police and forensics and things

Turns out its not quite all it seems (as per this link which explains it a bit more www.snopes.com/fact-check/reasons-admission-insane-asylum-1800s/ ) but it’s amusing all the same!
